I think this is a cheap way for Dell to get their product out there, just for sheer #'s sake, much like their computers. You could sell 100,000 $2,000 computers @ $500 profit each or 2,000,000 $500 computers @ $50 profit each. The profits are certainly in favour of the more expensive computer, but the other brand has "marketshare." Essentially I think Dell wants to increase their numbers to their shareholders and possibly the public would consider buying their product because a million people couldn't be wrong, coulc they?
I think it befuddles MP3 player manufacturers that the more expensive brand is outselling the cheaper models hand over fist. Could the world want a really cool quality product?
Hey I love Apple. There's nothing else in my arsenal, so don't hink I'm bagging on them. I just think it's good to see that all the PC fanboys that HAVE been trouncing Apple about the whole iBook thing can see that PC manufacturers can screw up as well.
OK I'll give you Farenheit sucks, but it is better than Celsius or Centigrade. Farenheit is a little more accurate, but if we're trying to get all scientific and stuff, we should go to Kelvin. At least it's based upon absolute zero (the temperature when all molecular movement ceases) and not the freezing and boiling of water.
So does that factor into the accusatory "laziness" of Americans not converting to the metric system? Sounds like you need to think more to use the Imperial system!
How much does a liter (litre) of gasloine (petro) weigh? How about a liter of milk? A liter of glue? It does have some conveniences, especially the whole decimal based math thing, but we're so used to it and according to sources it's too costly to completely convert. Science and medicine use the metric system over here, but cars and many many other things use the English (or should it now be the US?) system. I know converting Grandma's recipes would be a bitch! How many grams in a dash?
I think the competition IS places like Best Buy. I think the iTMS is a viable alternative to the brick and mortar locations and is succeeding, by forcing the music industry to adopt it's old model of releasing singles. Let's face it, most bands don't deserve to record an album and we, the consumers, don't deserve to be forced to buy an album filled with trash and the one or two songs that we do like. Cheers to Apple.
I think a few manufacturers in the 90's started using the "67" monicker for the speed numbers strictly to avoid that very problen. Ever notice that buildings, especially hotels, don't have a 13th floor? The only Apollo lunar mission to fail was Apollo 13. 666 is NOT a valid telephone exchange. There are 7 colours in the rainbow because Newton would be branded a heretic for suggesting that is was comprised of 6. There's more numerology at play than people think.
I'm far from paranoid. I use IBM processors! =) It's makes very little difference what goes on in the Wintel market, because I avoid M$ and if I want to play games I'll play them on a console which will run me far less money with games than a computer and a $60 title that I'll play for a couple of weeks till it's solved.
The bottom line is what drives all these companies and they all operate very similarly. I doubt Cyrix will be coming back to life, but you never know.
For what most users use their computers for a P133 would be defined as competent. If the profits were truly there then why is Gateway hanging by the cord of a plasma display? Look for prices to go up. The business model for companies like this is to put prices so low the little guy can't compete, sending them out of business then slowly raise prices to cover the years of breaking even on the larger products. Trust me I've worked for companies like this.
Those that think AMD won't soon follow suit are sadly mistaken. Why make $30 for a $120 processor that can be overclocked when you can make $90 on a $250 chip? You'll find that both Intel and AMD will start limiting what a consumer can "legally" do to their chips. Limits will be placed upon use and warranty. Don't be surprised if legislation will be made on the premise that you are licensing the fair and proper use of Intel and AMD products, not actually purchasing them.
With the advent of high end gaming, people are willing to spend more on a system. But these parts will rise in price accordingly. Building your own will no longer be a viable method of computer purchasing. Dell, HP and others will make sure of that.
With the help of the big two prices will go up, because of the need to make profits. You can't make a whole lot when you're charging $500 per box, but at $3K there's room.
For years Apple has been compared to BMW, as far as marketshare. I'm glad they finally pooled their efforts together. One nicer thing would be an integrated dock in the center console (next revision). Also does anyone know if you get songs info (titles etc.) displayed on your stereo? That would be cool.
I know that Apple has had aids for the visually impaired built into the OS for as long as I can remember. I know someone that's been using this option quite successfully. The iTunes Music Store has a large selection of titles to choose from in their audiobooks section. If you're looking for a portable solution the iBook is an economical choice. I hope this helps.
How many of us know people with college degrees that can't use common sense? Can't follow directions from MapQuest?
Degrees are nice for certain things, but have become the litmus test for so many professions especially IT. When in fact, so many guys have been too busy coding and fixing networks and upgrading systems to go out and get a piece of paper that says they passed a test on things that they've been doing for years.
Why not ban HD's in general. Since they're the breeding ground for all child pornography. Perhaps the internet, because that's where all the copywritten information is traded? Tivo, DVD-R, VCR, Beta (with the exemption for the exhaulted broadcasting companies that would never do any harm), HD's, CD-R, cassette tapes and even the lowly floppy should all be banned because they all have the potential for illegal copying and trading. Everything should be read only. If it has the potential for recording it should be banned!
I say we dowse this need for a paperless society and go back strictly to paper paper everywhere!
Let's be realistic, this is over the top nonsense. Obviously anyone that supports this idea of thinking needs the live in a state of Orwellian martial law and complete governmental control of the media and why stop there, include thought. A nation of drones all serving the mighty Utah based society with our leader Orrin Hatch.
Fight the power people! Our Constitutional rights are taken away more and more in the name of safety and corporate greed.
