Do you think Apple has actually invented much of the hardware in the iPhone? of course not, it's off the shelf parts. So why is Apple the target? it sounds like to me this is a software patent argument. The people supplying the chips to Apple are the people infringing.
Nokia may have a case if and when Apple produce their own cell silicon, the radio part of the phone.
Patent law doesn't work that way, nor should it. Many of these companies who produce the low-level components (ICs, chipsets, etc.) in embedded electronics are based in Asian countries with little real-world IP enforcement.
An event is generated in a user's Exchange account when a new message arrives. This event causes a Short Message Service (SMS) notification to be sent to the user's device. The device synchronizes in the background. The user data is updated to the most current information, with no intervention on the part of the user.
The notification is sent as an SMS control message to the device. It is different from a regular SMS notification, because it does not appear as an SMS message in the Inbox. The SMS router and Exchange ActiveSync on the device process the notification. The notification itself does not carry any sensitive data.
Notifications can be sent from Exchange Server 2003 directly to the SMS address of the device, or through an aggregator (for example, a corporate service provider) configured by the Exchange administrator. For notifications to be sent to the SMS address of the device, the administrator must create an SMTP carrier in Exchange System Manager.
Currently, the real issue with AJAX-webapp links is that the server never gets the hash (fragment) portion of the URL. This makes it hard to serve the correct page to a mobile device, and completely impossible if the device does not support JavaScript.
It also makes the server-side logs less and less useful, without introducing other kludges like calling "fake" URLs (via iframes or other tags) just to populate actual activity in the logs..
It would be beneficial for many people to become cab drivers. This would decrease their income (less money per ride and less rides per driver) and you'll end up with many people barely making enough to survive on.
so it's my job to make sure i keep every inefficient industry in business with the status quo intact?
i hope you never buy anything that's discounted either, you might drive those retailers out of business.
I once wrote a post on my blog that got frontpaged on/. and I had zero problems coping with the traffic. This was using Wordpress with the WP-Cache plugin on a modestly-powered server in a datacenter. I'm not really sure why so many people have issues (unless they aren't running WP-Cache, of course).
Most people seem not to be aware of WP-Cache et al. It really should be rolled into the default base.. "if you are going to get more than a handful of visitors any time soon, check this box! [ ]"
There will be equivalents that meet or exceed the same specifications, but aren't locked down. I personally would really like an iPad. I'm just waiting for one that's not made by Apple. It wont be long.
Though I don't know I'd call it 'equivalent', I have high hopes for Courier.
Believe it or not, step 2 is in fact available for a limited time:
Call your congresscritter or write a letter and help us get this bloody healthcare legislation passed.
As someone directly affected by the wanton denial of coverage in the current system
I, too, have a pre-existing condition that prevents me from getting individual coverage. The problem is though all of the current legislation that's passed in both chambers is a slap in the face. It prevents denial on pre-existing conditions (in 2014! oh boy, but the tax increases on employers start now) but they don't do anything to regulate how much insurers would be able to actually charge someone with a pre-existing condition!
Oh, you have hypertension? Sure, we have to insure you by law. Your premiums are $8,000 a month. Would you like to enroll?
.5. Call up your local congressman and say youhave to leave the country to get health care as he doesnt care about the people he represents.
Seriously the reason one in six americans don't have coverage is based on the lasttime congress tried to straighten up healthcare. I fully expect the republicans to screw it up thistime too.
Yes, the democrats have nothing but the most altruistic motives in their reform plans.
Perhaps he is referring to the US Border Patrol and their, shall we say, "enlightened" policies? This is a guess, because I have never been through the US-Canadian border. My travels have only been to the mysterious Far East, and then before 9/11
I go through frequently, including last week, never seen anyone get fingerprinted.
The main impediment to the U.S. competing is our cost of living, and no, importing a horde of H1-B workers won't help.
Completely agree; and what a lot of people won't say is that a great deal of H1-B workers are willing to accept a lower standard of living than Americans. Many of them are single men, or men with families in their home country, and rent small quarters with 3 or more roommates (usually fellow H-1Bs.)
This actually drives the market value of American workers down, leading to higher domestic unemployment in affected sectors, as the Americans can't afford to accept jobs which won't enable them to support a family.
I won't attempt to give an opinion on whether this is 'fair,' or expedient for the country. I'll leave that up to the rest of you.;)
You know, I'm sick of the fine and dandy people that somehow seem to think that they are entitled to sell their products from around America. If these 600 million people around the world are so damned smart, why are they unable to build up their fricking countries rather than unload all their crap on us. Frankly, I would just as soon bar all imports of any good whatsoever and just have the colonies explore the seas to get needed raw materials. The rest of the world can go fuck itself.
They won't like this one bit and go to great lengths to disallow or prevent it from working.
Most US carriers already officially disallow tethering preferring instead that you subscribe with an additional device (like an Aircard or a MiFi), and charge you a healthy premium for the privilege. In some cases you can fly under the radar, like with a jailbroken iPhone on AT&T.
My Touch Pro 2 on Sprint came with an "Internet Sharing" app in the programs menu, for sharing 3g over USB or Bluetooth..
As real as whatever I choose to enter. Also, I only joined, to be able to chat with a ton of idiot friends who use Failbook as their IM tool, instead of ICQ/Jabber/etc. And I have NOTHING on the page. I literally have disabled every single feature, left everything empty, and blocked everyone from seeing anything. The only exception: Friends can send me messages.
I will delete the profile, as soon as Failbook allows cross-server IM (like email). Because I have my own Jabber server, and can then chat with them without registering anywhere.
Fox is 100% bull (opinion pieces by neo-fascist extremists) and 0% news, and it's also billed news. Jon Stewart and the Colbert Report give better news in an hour than CNN does in a day.
The real problem is Fox News [like many other networks] also host commentary and news programs on the same network.
Their commentators are more extreme (and entertaining, this is a business after all) than the other networks.
I honestly don't think the bias on their *news* programs are any worse than the other networks.
That is not to say anything about the quality of the programmes, on any network.
and ceding Poland to Apple
godWIN!

If you import it and sell it, you're responsible.
Just wanted to add info if anyone was interested on how the control messages work:

Why in the world would you want to run GMail over activesync? IMAP with idle works great for my gmail account.
Um, because ActiveSync uses real push (via formatted SMS notifications) and IMAP IDLE just requires a constant data connection chewing your battery?
I don't own an iPhone; I thought that was just common knowledge (how EAS worked).
you can view Apple's comprehensive app store blacklist at https://iphone-services.apple.com/clbl/unauthorizedApps

Libel, most likely.
you can't slander a piece of software.

You think $2k a year is high? Seriously?? How about $2k a month? Can you suck that expense down without participating in insurance?
As someone with a "pre-existing condition," yes, I have no choice.
Phht. It amazes me that no one in government has figured this out yet, or figured out how to stop all the offshoring.
Yeah, more government involvement always fixes things!

I don't see any good reason why I can't set my phone to be an ad hoc network and let the laptop connect.
Um, you can with a phone that isn't locked down so you can't use it..
Windows Mobile - WMWifiRouter
Symbian - JoikuSpot
A quick google says there's one for Android but it requires rooting; same for iPhone.
And there is a possibility via WiFi already - a software for some smartphones that allows them to act as a WiFi hotspot
I've been using WMWifiRouter (for Windows Mobile) for years, works great for this.. even supports WPA.
Yeah. “Real Name”.

I refuse to believe you have friends.
The authentication is encrypted. This is exactly what "Allow Plaintext Authentication: no" means in the setup instructions.
Btw, you know were authentication is not encrypted? POP3. Doesn't help spammers that much, does it?
Um, mail isn't sent through POP3.. it's fetched. Thanks for playing.
They havn't included Kopete, which is the default IM ckient in KDE, in the instruction. And I demand they include Kopete. :/
Maybe you and the seven other guys using KDE as your WM, and the two of you which still use Kopete, can get together and contrib that.
Unfortunately that's a verbatim reference to a CSI: NY episode..
