I stand corrected. Using cat does avoid the "clutter" though which could, I suppose, be the reason for me doing it that way. I was wondering where this file named "total" came from.
Muffalt.
Using a wildcard would not give you an aggregate word count with wc. He used cat for the intended purpose, which is to concatenate files and print them to stdout.
At least he didn't use a for loop.
Bipolar disorder is frequently mistaken for ADD

Studies have shown that the symptoms of ADD in children are difficult to distinguish from those of Bipolar disorder ("Manic Depression".)
It's interesting to note how few adults maintain ADD's symptomatic behavior and the fact that so few children are diagnosed Bipolar. They numbers are nearly inversely proportional. I'm not saying ADD doesn't exist, but it's a phenomenon worth noting.

My question is, how did NetPD really get their information ? I doubt it was actual humans sitting there harvesting names by hand and recording them on a big list. It's a simple little rule, not even close to being a law, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
I've used many Operating Systems in my time, from OS/32 (Perkin Elmer/CCUR) to CP/M to MacOS to BeOS, etc. I don't have any problems with the BeOS. Actually, I love it. It was a breeze to configure and I never said otherwise. The problem I have is truly a BUG; a bug that is quite similar to a bug on Be's support website, yet different enough to be intrinsic to MY setup alone. The problem is with the way the bootloader is attempting to read from the boot sector of my IDE hard-drive, maybe it the Geometry that's fscked, I dont know. I've tried everything.
I quite dislike Gnome and in fact, don't remember even mentioning it. Linux *IS* difficult to configure, but at least I can get at the source of the problem. With a bug in the proprietary bootloader's code, I am stuck with either A) Waiting for them to fix it, or B) Boot from a (questionably reliable) floppy disk forever.
My problem with Be's (constant) repositioning is that the current userbase has to suffer from their long lead-times and slow response. It looks as if they're doomed to never find their niche from where I stand, although you may disagree.
Please don't take any of this the wrong way. We're all in this together, and I was most certainly *NOT* trying to pit Linux against BeOS. They both have their place; in the world, and on my machine.
*I* am getting really sick of Be not having their act together. I recently purchased BeOS 4.5, only to discover that I have to boot from a floppy due to some irritating problem with the bootloader code. Tech support has been less than attentive, and I'm getting tired of stabbing in the dark to solve a problem that would take me minutes to resolve under Linux. I love the BeOS, but I don't love it enough to deal with this crap. They should spend less time making strategic relationships and/or positioning themselves and spend more time making their product work. By the way, Be's move to releasing their OS as "free" for version 5 really burned my ass. I like the product, but I'm getting tired of waiting for them to solidify their direction.
On a lighter note: I also think it's pretty cool that Shogo is being ported to BeOS.
Not to smear Loki's name or anything, but they have been less than careful with credit card numbers in the past. My girlfriend purchased Quake III for me (what was she thinking ?) from Loki using their secure form. There was a small problem with the information, so the person handling the order saw fit to tranmit the output from their ordering script in it's entirety via. email IN CLEAR TEXT.
It's true that submitting private information such as a CC number online is really no different than signing a receipt in a store, but a certain trust relationship is assumed when carrying out a secure online transaction. I think people using "the Internet" for transactions tend to rush about with their business without thinking. Maybe it's the "time dilation" that occurs on "the Internet", or maybe not.
Yes, i've compiled it under lcc on linux. The Q3asm.exe binary will work under wine, but you'll need to rewrite all of the batch files as shell scripts.
I purchased the Linux version, and don't appreciate having to degrade myself by running a "No CD" crack to use a program that I paid good money for. It would be nice if the would allow us to use our CD-keys from Linux. BTW: Does the Windows version of Q3A look bad (compared to Linux) to anyone else ?
I agree, and they are still "nifty." I own a 1968 VW Type III fastback, which is a rare beast here in Philadelphia, PA. How I long for the days when I didn't live on a steep incline, when I could get underneath it and work without the fear that the crummy emergency brake would give out, killing me. Ferdinand Porsche was a brilliant man. "Volkswagens don't leak oil, they MARK THEIR TERRITORY."
I use a few different operating systems throughout the day, and I'm sure I'm not alone. I appreciate the fact that quite a bit of what I am interested in in the computing world is consolidated here. Stop being so grumpy.
It's not in the USA, so I think it would be an E1. Not that it really matters since the post is bogus, but it's the only (technology) related thing that I can see here.

I wonder if this "intelligent assistant" will realize that "electronical" is not a word.
...or you could ignore the discussion.
