Its not a big deal, but it makes my 12 month long oddessy with Mint a much more comfortable descision. After 5 good years with Ubuntu I ran for the hills after the gnome 3/unity fiasco, I think this will be the straw that breaks the camel's back for others.
Obviously is a network latency/congestion issue. A LOT of people ride these systems, currently, when you scan a (for example) Bart "Clipper" card the turnstile "beeps" immediately, inducing the card to update its current balance. I can't imagine the latency involved in using a network/centralized solution, but I can imagine the groans as thousands of bay area commuters wait for the turstile to beep after they wave their Clipper cards at the readers, waiting for the central office to send the current balance to the card...
A court can order your execution, I'd imagine they can order the deletion of an online account.
Your imagination is lacking, or over-active, one of the two. You make it sound like a "court" (whatever that is) can wave its hand and order things like executions and censorship. A JUDGE may order an execution as a punishement if a jury has so decreed it after due process, which automatically triggers retrial attempts. Ordering a person to take down a facebook page will trigger a 1st amendment hearing, you can be sure. A judge might order that some one convicted of a crime may not be able to use a computer as part of his punishment, but putting limits on things anyone can say or how will be contested you can be sure.
(yes, there is a "classic" theme for windows 7, but that isn't the same thing)
Why deal with "themes" at all? The default red and blue "theme" reminds me of a clown car. I turn that shit off, giving me the classic and much more eye pleasing "NT" look. If you go into computer properties and set 7 (or vista, or XP....) to run with minimal effects (I think its labeled "Performance"), then go into thte admin/services panel applet and turn off the theme engine and all the useless services (time, web, server, workstation, etc) you can gain a noticable perfomance gain.
... where most people thinks they are entitled to have everything free...
Most people using linux think"s" assuming the cart is before the horse in lieu of a viable gaming title is a bit premature. Let's wait until the steam port is done, shall we?
Seems like an odd statement to me given the past history of Intel's friendliness to Linux in the past. This rhetoric makes Intel appear as though they want to distance themselves from the Linux community where they could have simply said "Linux isn't supported (right now)."
"Security Theater", good way to put it. And I love how the people in charge of this fiasco continue regardless of the citizen outcry as though they really know what they are doing and we're all just clueless idiots.
So that's it? Snotty but successfull kid declares html5 a toss and that's it? I've noticed a few other people making comments that they're disappointed by html5. Its a bit early to make that determination yet I think.
...do the tree huggers come out to force protectionism legislation for these creatures down our throats? Worse, watch it come out that a healthy waterbear population is the only thing between the earth and global warming, and diorama enthousiasts are decimating the population becuase of all the moss they use.
Yes, I recognize the language's many obvious (and many not-so-obvious) failings...
You're underselling the problems with PHP. Seriously. PHP is a hideous, three-headed stepchild of a programming language and I know nothing about it that's fun, functional, or useful. Its not Fun, or Funny. http://me.veekun.com/blog/2012/04/09/php-a-fractal-of-bad-design/.
Its just another case of government rubbing up against technology and getting burned. Government are huge, lumbering, stupid, dinosaurs, and that will never change.
I see ads for programmers like this all the time; they are looking for new grads and then present a laundry list of technical tools and experiences they (the employer) expect from these people. Maybe I'm wrong but it seems like they are loooking for people with exerience they don't need to pay top dollar. How odd...
Seems odd to me that no one who has read the story itself (no one?) is mentioning the fact that this woman got the parasite years ago in her home country, making the headline comepletly false. California doesn't have a parasite infestation any more than any ther state.

I'm not snitching
Are you kidding? I understand you get 10,000 "likes" for every friend you snitch on. Now that's real value...

I think you need a laptop with ACPI and you need close it or otherwise send it into suspend mode to see the problem.

Hey, what's it like to work for a label? How old is the youngest pirate you've prosecuted? 10... 8? How many of your customers have you prosecuted?
...when the ARM processor does android just fine, thank you.

At first I was like "OMG", but then I was all "Hmmm...."

The heralded death of the notebook was a bit premature apparently.
Solaris? What's that?
...and let your users, investors, and you sleep easier at night. Don't store anything at all except a few prefs.
I'd rather use perl.
As though no one makes an alterbative. Your response shows how weak and worthless you are.
Lowest common denominator attaracts the most flies, pal. Didja actually READ the article I cited?
Interesting how the bulk of employers looking for "web 2.0" programmers are legion. What a horrible, insane, crappy, language.
