Just a guess, but the file listing was probably put together by someone who downloaded the file and then opened it. If they were using a *NIX OS at the time of spitting out the list, then you will see the *NIX style file listing for the set.

It looks to me as though someone just posted a dump from stdout.

They may store files on *NIX servers, they may not. I personally get the feeling from all of this that the leak came from outside the campus in Redmond, as has been mentioned elsewhere in these many threads, lots of people have access to chunks of the source.

Personally at home I use Gentoo and what amounts to a something similar to LFS (My own mongrel distro). At work I use Gentoo on my Linux machine.

However, I also buy a retail versions of the various distros, when I can, even if I never actually install them. I want to see the companies pushing Linux succeed so I put up some cash. I also contribute where I can to keep the projects I use the most going.

It may be somewhat stupid to buy something I never use, but I see it more as an investment than simply a purchase.

Hmmmmm, you were on to something, and you might not have even realized it. If everyone plans ahead, then everyone can break in on the ground floor when SCO goes out of business (Hopefully soon). Then build a database using the already existing names and phone numbers of all the people they are getting licensing fees from for their UNIX code in Linux. It could work out wonderfully.

Damnit, nevermind, I just realized that a database with only two entries wont get the company very far.

Terrorists come in all shapes, sizes, and colors (the purple ones are tasty). Unless that is recognized and dealt with this so called "War on Terrorism" is going to be just another buzzword-laden travesty of what it should be, much like the "War on Drugs".

It is very important to understand the cause of the problem so that in trying to solve it, we dont create a larger one. My gut feeling based on my reading is that, unfortunately, the seeds of a larger problem have already been planted.

  16. Re:The good and the bad on AOL Lays Off 50 Netscape Coders · · Score: 1

Actually, it wont cut down the size at all. AOL has, at least for the past 4 versions, used I.E. so this is really nothing new. Granted, I do remember hearing something a while back about AOL using Gecko to render the AOL software itself (admittedly, I don't know what became of that, and I haven't really cared to check), but the browser is still I.E. the only possible acception may be AOL 9.0 which is in Beta at the moment, unless I am mistaken. I havent looked at 9.0, so I dont know what their plans were/are for it, and it is possible that they may have decided not to use Netscape for AOL 9.0.

However, it still doesn't break the pattern of AOL shipping with a copy of I.E.

In other words, the file size will continue to grow, while AOL continues to try and create even more crappy content.

I havent tried Mplayer with WMA files specifically, but I know for a fact that it plays asf audio files flawlessly. It would be my guess that there is a converter out there somewhere. I am not sure how different the file format actually is. I know for streams that the some of the WM stream ripping programs convert from WMA to ASF.

Also, according to MPlayers information page here, WMA/WMV are supported. However, as I have stated, I haven't tried to open a WMA/WMV file personally.
