Of course it is possible that some details used are similar of what satnd in the patent But xsl file are not programs but a document and we can be allowed under free-speech to write such document?

I m sorry but you're wrong, according to This: " While traditional Time is absolute and related to the movements of the Sun and the Earth, Microsoft Time XP is perfectly relative. Most readers may already be familiar with this concept of time, as earlier versions of the product have been used in the Windows installers since Windows 95." from this article Microsoft Releases Microsoft Time XP.

But if you don't believe one of the more respectable software company when they try to enlight you, I think my post is just a waste of time.

I m working for a small Belgian company 'Link Software' that's producing a product called 'Link' (yeah I know, not very original).

The purpose of this software is to help organize information in almost exactly the categories listed at the end of kpellegr's question. The cool part is that you can link anything to anything, store data on those link fields, etcetera. The links generally symbolize relationships between records.

This lets you easily access all the contacts working for a company, meetings associated with a contact, documents associated with a meeting, and so on. Then you have your standard todo list, agenda, query & reporting tools etc.

So far it's only distributed in Belgium, France, and the UK through partners. If you're interested try going here, or check out an old flash demo of ours.

2 weeks ago, I receve a call from one of my customer telling me that he have done nothing but our application was no more working: he got a message server is unavailable or smthg like that.

You know when customer says:I did nothing, he lies not allways by intention but he lies. In fact , by asking some question, he told me that they just used Microsoft Auto upadte.

Now the point: HotFix 823980 fix well the problem of RPC overflow but cause an impossibility to access a COM+ object that we need (In fact our server is a com+ object). So if you fix the bug our software dont run if you don't...

Are we the only company that got this problem? Are we the only using a COM+ object server instantiate on client?

Back some year ago when I was student, I ve used this particular technic but with a subtle difference. We were coding in pascal and I did choose to give painter's name to string variable, compositor for integer variable,...

My question now: which variable names could I use for Variant, you know that type from a well-known OS that may not be named. Because you need to have both a writer, composer, singer,... that's quite rare

Wizards are very usefull for task that are rarely used (like configuration) and I think that the interface must remain easy for day to day use. I think lots of software have poor designed interface and propose to much options, buttons, menues that few understand and use. Apple is doing a very good job with the iApps because I know a lot of non-tech people using it without any difficulties.

I think it may be smart if a lots of software could be run in 2 mode (or more): normal use, configuration. My experience with end-user is that they want more of the time very few buttons and a easy procedure to follow to avoid accident. May be a way to easilly enable/disable buttons, menues,... to customize the interface for each profile and then for each use

Can a manager run something he does not understand? No
I don't agree with that sentence because lots of technical companies are managed by financial and commercials people And that's normal the first thing who matters is customers. To be the best technically is useless if you don't have customer. A good manager is first a man who can engage a good team for all the topics he/she cannot handle. The manager must have a very high level vision of the business and give impulsion. Do you think that Steve Jobs have make the technical choice for the G5? No, he asked probably that the G5 looks cool, professionnal and was quiet but definitevely cool. So a good manager is someone precious. But he/she must be focused on strategic goal not technical details.

I think that companies and administration need to take care on the perpetuity of the information they store and use. Backup is important but what append if you cannot read the data from you backup? And what is happening if the application says 'bad registration key'. Please call our commercial departement...' and the software company no more exist?

If you're using Open Source software you can finfd solution because you can fix the problem by yourself (or pay somebody). But if you are using propietary software you can't an may not fix the problem.

It's why I think that if you use proprietary software you need to impose that they use standardized data format so you can change from software provider and keeping you data.
