Be that as it may, "the people" is never used in the bill of rights to refer to citizens collectively. The majority in Dred Scott knew this, which is why they said it was unthinkable that blacks could be citizens because then they could "keep and carry arms wherever they went." Interesting that a Jim Crow law is still so popular in DC...
It says something of the grandparent's personal character that when he sees a gun he thinks, "that's for killing" as opposed to "that's for safeguarding."
i think there's little argument that the 2nd amendment was articulated to guarantee the ability of a free people to defend themselves against and even overthrow an unjust aggressor or ruling entity.
Which is fine...except that if the ruling entity--or those on its payroll--is the only one with weapons of war, then the 2nd amendment doesn't mean diddly to the commoners. Why do we have the "bill of rights," anyhow? It certainly isn't there to protect the rights of the rulers over their subjects. The 2nd amendment is meaningless unless it guarantees the right of private citizens to "keep and carry arms wherever they [go]" (quoth the majority in Dred Scott, horrified that blacks would be able to "keep and carry arms wherever they went" if they were recognized as citizens).
What the GP is pointing out is that Dubya & Company will cite chapter and verse when it suits their interests, but have absolutely no problem ignoring the same chapter and verse the instant they find it inconvenient.
Congratulations. You've just described every politician in Washington and beyond, as well as pretty much everyone else in the world. Get bent.
I use Gaim, too, but I guess my point was that AOL ostensibly has not been luring people into a spam/ad-free user experience. Maybe AOL is just now trying to cash in on all of us Gaim and Trillian users?
Blinking and flashing ads in the buddy list window doesn't strike me as being "spam-free," but then I consider all ads that I don't want to see (pretty much all of them) as spam...
I took a look at the "Installing OpenOffice" video, and I'm certain that most of the people that can't figure out how to install it on their own wouldn't be helped at all by this. Instead of sticking to the task at hand, the guy starts blabbing about how you should always go to "openoffice.org to get the latest and greatest" and starts clicking on things without telling or explaining what he's doing. I don't know what the other videos are like or if they're as bad, but it almost doesn't matter because the people that need these wouldn't get past the first one. Simplistic HOWTOs should *never* be designed by a techie unless they have the ability to actually communicate so that their intended audience will understand them.
Getting SELinux is easy. Some distributions (notably Fedora and CentOS) have it installed and enabled by default, and I suspect that anyone who has done any amount of research into "hardening" their system has heard of SELinux.
I never realized how much I appreciated DST until this year, when I got out of work at 5:00 PM and it was still light out; the day before it was almost dark at the same time.
Best estimates put firearm ownership rates at between 40% and 50% of all households in the United States. Ownership rates tend to increase going out from densely populated inner cities.
The obvious action is to do what is necessary to protect yourself, and in the case of an abusive ex, this includes "telling the police" and getting a restraining order. Sadly, the police can not protect all people at all times (indeed, they have no legal obligation, absent a "special relationship," to protect any individual), and a restraining order, when it comes down to it, is just a piece of paper.
Your attitude of "the police will protect you" is very misleading, as the police have no obligation to protect individuals, even if an individual has a restraining order and calls for help when being attacked. I'd cite the case law, but instead I'll let you continue to make a fool of yourself.
I just hope no one you care for is ever in a situation where they need you to defend their life or well-being with a cell phone.
They have the same effect, i.e., changing the course of discussion and resulting conclusions. Moderating on Slashdot directly modifies the debate. I tend to think the two examples are far more similar than different, but you're correct to point out my equivocation; I overslept and am not quite "with it" yet.:)

substitute "OSU" for "Columbus," and I might agree with you :)
...and extend
...when they're actually affordable. $1500 for a 0.5 carat SI3 white isn't any better than what you'd pay for a mined diamond.
I was wondering more about the usefulness/feasibility of the plugin per se.
AND we'll get to credit him with inventing space!
what about the jajah extension? anyone know if it's any good before i install it and muck things up?
MOD PARENT UP, INSIGHTFUL
...how you got that from what I wrote
Sorry, it's obligatory... You must be new here.
The same things that are wrong with you. Deal with it; we have to deal with you.

but I never here anyone complain about that, only about MS doing it. Weird.

(let alone know where to get it [nsa.gov]?)

Personally, I'd like to see more development energies be expended to the furtherance of Enlightenment.
It's amazing that you could try to apply two diametrically opposed labels to the same thing... and then get modded up for it.
