I agree a Mac is a PC. But Apple or anyone else using the term is not being misleading, it is simply a marketing term to simplify the concept of an Apple PC. Microsoft wishes it had a concise brand term to refer to a computer running their operating system, but they don't and the more Apple exploits this the more they'll have to continue using the generic PC term.

There was exactly zero technical details about why it would be tricky on a Mac. So that wasn't an excuse at all.

Well, being troll for that is just stupid. On the other hand there isn't a demonstrable price difference if one compares very similar hardware configurations. The thing that causes the misunderstanding is that Apple doesn't sell hardware that isn't feature complete like some manufactures.

The real difference between a Mac and a PC is marketing. A Mac is still just a PC, but Apple marketing calls it a Mac. I should know I'm a Mac users and have been for many years. I could just as easily call myself an Apple PC user or simply a PC user. Any misunderstanding that arises would be an indication that Apple marketing is doing its job, which is to make you believe there is a difference between an Apple PC and a PC.

Damn you! Anytime I meta comment on moderation I get sent to karma hell. Even worse if I mention the specific moderation I'm expecting to get. Maybe I just attract modders with attitudes, but regardless the system is broken because a modder isn't really accountable for their mods and doesn't have to justify why they modded something the way they did. Thus the person receiving the moderation doesn't get any real feedback such as why they're a troll or why they're offtopic or why they're flamebait. So whatever useful discussion could have taken place becomes even more unlikely since most people don't read comments below a certain threshold. Modderation only really works when a person's only intent is to be disruptive (spams, fist post and other things that are obviously disruptive). Unfortunately anything in the gray is at a disadvantage because one person's humor can be considered flamebait, troll, etc. And another person's serious misunderstanding can be considered redundant, offtopic etc. Anyway you get the point.

I think you misunderstood me. When we switched from VHS to DVD there was an urgency. There was a good chance the tapes you owned today would not play tomorrow. That just isn't the case with DVD as you pointed out, but also that with a little care a DVD can last a lifetime unlike VHS which will deteriorate. That urgency drove sales and simply doesn't exist with the switch to Blu-Ray. That's why no one outside of those who have to be on the cutting edge really give a shit about Blu-Ray. The rest of the world could careless, Blu-ray is just a DVD that cost more and looks slightly better if you're lucky enough to have decent eyesight.

Consumers are stupid, but not that stupid. VHS to DVD was clearly an improvement for consumers. DVD to Blu-Ray is mostly pointless because looking better doesn't justify a new TV, a new player and rebuilding a collection plus paying more for the media.
