Hell would have to freeze over. GM is incapable of making something that good in a small car. Chrysler won't be around much longer -- the nameplate might be but the car itself will be a Fiat. (I find it telling that they've split off the truck and Jeep divisions) and have announced they're scrapping the small and mid-sized product lines)
I wonder what he would say if someone casually mentioned that people use.72 caliber rifles to hunt deer. A 12ga deer gun with a rifled barrel is around.72 caliber, if I remember correctly (using a.50 caliber slug in a sabot generally).
I'm not arguing with a sniper rifle. BBut the guy who thinks a.50AE handgun is a better choice for close quarters (which is what I was responding to): Most people can't control a.50AE. I've seen too many people like this in the range, who think they're hot shit because they have a hand cannon... But can't hit a man sized target at 25 yards.
I've seen that; but, personally don't have a use for it. I'm not military. While I have 3 family members who are in law enforcement, I'm not (You might say I'm the geek of the family). A standard Mossberg is good enough for me.
Flash doesn't impress me. I would actually think I had a better chance, believing that you'd never fired it, because it was pretty. I might assume that if you're pointing a gun at me, you're intending to shoot me with it; so, I'd not wait to find out. Besides... You might not want to shoot someone with that cannon. In some states there can be legal consequences for using a weapon that might be considered "excessive", even if otherwise you'd be in the right.
Very true, very true. A 9mm is good enough -- that's both of my brother-in-laws carry on duty. My sister carries a.40s&w. (Yes, there's a tendancy toward law enforcement in the family). In the home I prefer a shotgun for self defense, because buckshot would be less likely to kill the neighbors kids. Some people seem to think they need a cannon... I don't care what the guy with the.50 says, a shotgun, any shotgun, is pretty damn obvious -- It'll get the bad guys attention pretty quick.
If you feel you're going to need a.50 cal, then use a 20ga shotgun (0.620" bore) loaded with slugs. At least then you'll be able to control the recoil. You will be able fire it faster. Maybe reload it faster. Use it as an effective club when you're out of ammo. And you'll be able to afford the ammo.
I'm just checking here: You do know that the uranium is naturally occuring, correct? And that it has a half-life in excess of 10k years? Uranium was used to color glass (vaseline glass) and china (Fiesta Ware red-orange glaze). That was stopped, not because it was excessively dangerous; but, because there was another use found for all the uranium in the 1940's and 1950's.
By the way, burning the uranium in a reactor tends to increase the amount of radioactive materials... at least in the short-term.
There's no uranium shortage. There's a U235 shortage. Sure, our infrastructure, such that it is, is based for the most part on U235 cores. It's not terribly difficult to use mixed oxide as a supplement in an existing reactor, once you have the Pu239 or U233; so, the existing reactors are not left out in the cold (I meant that as a pun). But considering the U.S. infrastructure is 30-40 years old, and we need to start building new(-er) reactors to supplement and replace those, it would be a good idea to design some of those to use the alternatives: U238 is available in fairly large quantities (Hell, we have it in south central Virginia) and Thorium 232 is available in larger quantities. Both yield fissionable fuels in "breeder" reactors.
I'd be guessing but here are three possible reasons AMD might be in that place:
1.) Value, ie. lower cost per processor
2.) Opteron has built in straight forward 4-way and 8-way multiprocessor connectivity, Xeon was limited to 2-way connectivity without extra bridge hardware, until recently.
3.) Opteron has higher memory bandwidth than P4 or Core 2 arch.
Some people don't have your morals, and might actually find a high paying job like this desirable: (cnn) "A new lawsuit alleges that convicted swindler Bernie Madoff financed a cocaine-fueled work environment and a "culture of sexual deviance," "

fine, call Microsoft, AVG Technologies, and Corel. then call BSA. Make sure you've documented everything and be prepared to be blamed (you are the IT guy, after all -- "We had know idea that our rogue IT guy was installing illegal copies of software!"). Also be prepared to find another job if you don't already have one, because if they find out who turned them in it will likely not look good on your performance review.
It sounds like you didn't get his approval first. Even if you did this as a favor, from a strictly business point of view you destroyed value when you removed his legally purchased and installed copy of Windows and replaced it with something else.
This is the government. They transitioned from Windows 2000 to XP only last year.
from the look of it (I RTFA) I see progress. It's about time.

It takes all kinds... of idiots. The world's full of them.

1 lb is a bit light, isn't it?
I see your point. On my older laptop I believe I am using the open-source driver.

I've not had this problem and my laptops all have AMD processors and chipsets. What are you running that isn't supported?

Well damn. You're right, of course. What was I thinking of then... Off to find my CRC Handbook.

The dwarf planet you refer to is officially named Eris.
I concur. I need to check the weather outside and the thermostat in my office because I'm certain the temperature in Hell is below the norm.
when these exascale systems start asking questions and/or making demands?

*Drinks a lot*
Damn, that's an ugly color. I'm gonna fix that shit now!
