I have a developers version of oracle 9i for Linux that was sent to me from Oracle, is about 4 or 5 cd's (not sure because they are not in front of me right now..) have had em for about 6 months:)
also, wouldnt it be a question of funding? I mean, if information was shared before publishing, then the potential for "theft" of the discovery may cause departments to lose grant money for not producing results.
I would recomend Spinn.net. I have DSL service from them at my brothers house, not through Qwest but through another company, have had it for almost 2 years and have never had any problems. They are friendly and easy to talk to. I will probably switch my Qwest DSL to them as well as they are also cheaper than others here. http://www.spinn.net
I was told about the starter pack after I talked to about literally 8 people one day at Qwest just trying to find out if it was going to cause me problems with Linux. I was finally told about it after I raised hell and got very rude with a rep. Sad I had to resort to that, as I used to work tech support, but I understand now why they would get that way when I was dealing with the public
they may try calling the ISP and having them contact QWEST on thier behalf. Here, if I contact one of about 5 different ISP's they will switch me over, and I wont even have to pay the 30 bucks that QWEST usually charges. But, then will have 2 bills instead of having it all convinently billed to me as one.
As a side note, I got an email from Qwest saying that the forced rollover is postponed until another as of yet undesignated date here is the email I received:

haha Qwests email to me dosent pas the lameness filter, had to clean it up a bit... take out thier crap but the actual content is still there
been there, done that... it flopped. AOL/Gateway teamed up to create a web pad that did just that, run AOL on a locked up version of linux... it cost much more than $100 dollars though. This was posted somewhere else in this discussion
The AOL/Gateway webpad was a disaster. It was horrible to support (I was one of the very few tech's at Gateway who did support it... yes I worked for gateway tech support. anyone else who works/worked there can probably figure out what call center since only a small team at one of them dealt with this thing). It had to go through a very lenghtly inital download just to get it to connect, 4/5 units didn't work. They never delivered on the promises of its capabilities, like the ethernet port so you could integrate it into a LAN or connect to a dsl/cable modem, they never delivered the printer drivers for it, it never supported JAVA either. The machine had great potential, was based on Linux, and ran a Crusoe processor. Wish I coulda got my hands on one to hack around with... but the price was very high for a web appliance.
If lawsuits are limited to the dollar amount spent on the software it would not hurt free software developers, however that would limit Microsoft or other software companies liability as well. But, another way of dealing with the issue is if MS or other company was taken to court then word of the security breach would be exposed and the offending sw developers forced to fix it or risk having it pulled from shelves
Intel calls its bumpless package the BBUL, for bumpless build-up layers, and expects it to come into use in the second half of the decade. BBUL would support multiple chips, such as two processors and supporting silicon.
If you do it with some restraint, you're not likely to be arrested for spanking your child. I think the few cases where a parent has been arrested where when it was actually child abuse.
You're right about the restaurant situation, but I think the blame should fall squarely on the parents. And the restaurant manager for not asking them to leave.
Now of course the problem is who decides when it is restrained or child abuse? There are people out there who would consider a small slap child abuse, or even raising your voice towards your child (and you know how hard of hearing some kids are:). So in public places many parents refrain from discipline so Child Protective Services dont come pounding on the door later on to take the child/children away.
I am not saying thats the case with all parents as there are a lot out there who just dont bother with discipline.
Or hell, just get the extended warranty, so that even if you tried to wire it up to the microwave to reach the moon they will replace it no questions asked.
what is the status of MS Office support under WINE? I know it is not an offical port from Microsoft, but with thier whacky licensing schemes I doubt I would want it ported. Well, if I were ported I wouldnt be able to afford it anyway, esp with free office suites like OpenOffice and Koffice. Right now they may not have ALL the features of MS Office but am sure they will quickly improve.
Right now Directv is supporting HDTV on a few channels (HBO comes to mind) and at one of my local electronics stores has an RCA HDTV with built in Directv receiver... also progressive scan DVD players may look decent on one... now if I only had the $2,999 to get one...
As for being the "avrage user" many users have thier playstations connected to thier home theater systems. ever play Madden 2000 with Dolby surround? Amazing the realisim... So, this is pretty neet and I will be looking into getting one, now havent looked at it yet, but wonder if it has an optical digital jack...

all Apple would have to do is port Aqua over to *BSD repackage it and sell it as OS X for the PC.
