Which is of interest to whom? No seriously unless your bank is verifying your house purchase transaction using a Core i5, what benefit is there in ECC RAM for an average user, I mean other than having lighter wallets and less performance?
That is the most ignorant statement you could have ever made on Slashdot regarding the topic of computing. The entire point of a computer isn't just to calculate data efficiently, but to do so RELIABLY!
Much system instability, downtime, and data-loss can be attributed to random bit-flips. It's so bad, that Google was involved in a study regarding DRAM errors.
We find that DRAM error behavior in the field differs in many key aspects from commonly held assumptions. For example, we observe DRAM error rates that are orders of magnitude higher than previously reported, with 25,000 to 70,000 errors per billion device hours per Mbit and more than 8\% of DIMMs affected by errors per year. We provide strong evidence that memory errors are dominated by hard errors, rather than soft errors, which previous work suspects to be the dominant error mode. We find that temperature, known to strongly impact DIMM error rates in lab conditions, has a surprisingly small effect on error behavior in the field, when taking all other factors into account.
And that study was 9 years ago. Since then, speed has increased with transistors shrinking, which makes them more susceptible to cosmic rays striking the small gates on the die like a stray bullet!
I really wish ECC was mandatory for the entire industry. Performance be damned! You want performance, ok, fine, disable ECC if you want. But that's on you. Honestly, ECC usage should be the norm, not the exception.
The doors closed on Youtube stardom. No way Linus Sebastian or Eric Cook (Eric the Car Guy) could have maintained their momentum had they started on Youtube today. The fact that Youtube has gutted the ability to monetize will only keep the newcomers out from sticking around long enough to make professional content. Yet, Youtube has a different idea; they want to be the next Netflix and shove all the losers off. Got news for them, the exact-ass-opposite is occurring!!
I don't think so. Volcanoes don't emit CFCs, and the plume starts further west.
How many homes have been burned down due to the lava flows? Once the AC compressor melts from lava, that could have vented all the coolant to atmosphere.
Yup. The largest Chinese banks as listed in order of assets
1. Industrial and Commercial Bank of China --> 4 Trillion US dollars worth 2. China Construction Bank Corporation --> 3.4 Trillion US dollars worth 3. Agricultural Bank of China --> 3.23 Trillion US dollars worth 4. Bank of China --> 2.99 Trillion USS dollars worth.
To put that in perspective.
5. Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (Japanese) --> 2.78 Trillion US dollars worth 6. JPMorgan Chase & Co. (US) --> 2.53 Trillion US dollars... 9. Bank of America --> 2.28 Trillion
Apple is on the cusp of being the first TRILLION dollar company. Yet, the choose not to open up the Lightning connector. So instead, the world adopts USB-C.
AT&T offered more innovation to the world than Apple has.
That, and China and India don't play that game. All De Beers has going for it is momentum of their image and recognition. Once the stones flood the market, so long as they meet the four Cs of desirability, most people aren't going to give a shit about their natural GIA certification.
Relatively soon, diamonds will become so cheap, the real ones will (finally) be on cheap-ass phone cases. Ok, maybe not that soon, never underestimate mass production
I honestly don't think it's a scam. The ol' adage holds true - "The perfect is the enemy of the good". Meaning, his indecisiveness governed by ambition has doomed this project from the very beginning. He, and the remainder of this supporters just doesn't realize it yet.
No shit, ain't that the truth!!! I bought in years ago to Star Citizen. It had everything going for it - the concept, characters, story, ships, models, roles, team play, the bloody fan base. Then, the giant fucking turd that would bearly qualify as an alpha release got maintained in perpetuity. As much money was sunk into this, and for as long as it's been, and the potential...this had everything going for for success. Hell, you might have gotten some good writers on board and spin off a Netflix mini-series....
So WTF happened? Endless ambition without a clearly defined goal of execution to mass-market. That's what happened. Now, I'm afraid they're a day late and a dollar short. It's all so very disappointing! No, really, it is. I was so amp-ed up over seeing greatness out of this project to the likes that only World of Warcraft and EVE Online could muster. But, instead nothing but a long sustained smelly fart; and I got tired of the smell.
Nope! Trump thought he could "drain the swamp". What that fool didn't realize was that the "swamp" was really a giant fucking OCEAN! Good luck draining that!
Ain't that the truth! I stayed at my in-laws home (condo) in Shanghai one winter. Every room was either plastered or tiled over poured concrete walls. Sure, it looked clean, until you realize every wall was a HEAT SINK sucking warm way. Chilled you to the bone!!!! Using a space-heater was an absolute waste of energy, and did fuck-all to heat the room. The only thing that helped keeping warm was using direct IR. They look like fans, but instead use a heating element bounces off a tin parabolic dish. Using them feels like being kissed by the sun
Pride is certainly at the core of it. However, this also might serve to expose any fissures that might exist between Un and the rest of the leadership he ostensibly controls. It also reveals the level of autonomy that exists within the N.Korean regime. Pulling the stunt the Trump did serves to answer those questions; all based on N.Korean responses.
Basically, the question is if Un is playing the world as fools, or if Un really has lost partial, if not total, control over the regime? If he so wanted, he could tell his subordinates to stop with the inflammatory commentary...no??
You know, this kind of parallels with the Japanese emperor during WWII and after we dropped the bombs. When push comes to shove, the N.Korean regime might attempt a coup against Un, and it won't be for the better; far from it in fact.
"Pride" is the worst of the seven deadly sins. And based on the inappropriate responses both by this administration, and that of N.Korea, is exemplary as to why.
The only "default password" should be to log into an unboxed device or application, and be REQUIRED to change it before proceeding further. DONE! Solves that problem. Move on
Damn! I came real close to getting suckered into a new deal. Comcast called offering me a huge bump up in internet speeds, cable TV, for two years for the same cost (or close). There would be an early termination, but at least the bill wouldn't jump up until after the contract expires. The deal was too good to be true. I decided to sit on it for awhile....
Now I know why, because they're profiting off the mandatory installation fee. FUCK THEM!! Sooooo glad I didn't go through the deal. But it was so tempting at the time.
Always trust your instincts. If it's too good to be true, it usually is.
Hawaii is has a gift of sorts, an active volcano. Why are we not throwing are non-recyclables and e-waste into the volcano? Next eruption, the lava will consume and break it down to it's basic elements anyways. Since it's going to be throwing tons of pollution into the atmosphere anyways, might as well take advantage of natures incinerator.
And yes, I'm being very serious. Perhaps it's more of a safety issue even in periods of relative inactivity?
Back when Hurricane Rita hit Texas in 2005, about a 100 people died as a result from the gridlock of everyone jumping on the interstates all at once. By contrast, Harvey was a far more horrific storm with trillions of gallons of rainwater leading to massive flooding; official death toll is 88.
1. It's the ultimate punishment, and thus serves as a deterrent for the most egregious of crimes against humanity. 2. It provides closer for the living victims of the egregious crimes committed by the perpetrator .
Mueller indicted three Russian companies with a charge "Conspiracy to Defraud the United States of America." But one of the companies, Concord Management, is calling out Meuller's bluff. Fact is, he has diddly squat in terms of evidence. As such, they entered a plea of not guilty. That's huge! It now forces Meuller to disclose any and all evidence brought against them, again, of which he as NONE!. Knowing this would expose this fraud for what it is, Meuller asked the court to postone the trial on a technicality that Concord Management wasn't properly served. Hah!! Fucking hilarious.
That son of a bitch thought he could chuck a spear in the dark and claim it landed where it should have. But someone in the dark caught it mid-flight, and is throwing it back at him.
I'm all for immortality, but after a certain period of time, the must live off world; be it in a space colony, on mars, etc. At some point you must leave the "nest".
The Terminator: Skynet begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, August 29th. In a panic, they try to pull the plug.
Sarah Connor: Skynet fights back.
The Terminator: Yes. It launches its missiles against the targets in Russia.
John Connor: Why attack Russia? Aren't they our friends now?
The Terminator: Because Skynet knows that the Russian counterattack will eliminate its enemies over here.
...and so the beginning of the end becomes all the more apparent.
No state has higher fraud than Florida. Real slime balls out there taking advantage of the elderly. And you know what, it PAYS BIG TIME!!!....right up until the fuckers get thrown in the slammer. But for everyone they put away, X amount more engage in this.
Oh, and the baby boomers haven't peaked in retirement. They're just waiting for the massive FL influx to pounce.

I used to love CNET back in 1996 to 1998. Today, it's just another shitting website. Just when you think the layout couldn't be worse...

The death penalty really serves as two purposes:
1. It's the ultimate punishment, and thus serves as a deterrent for the most egregious of crimes against humanity.
2. It provides closer for the living victims of the egregious crimes committed by the perpetrator .
