When people start using applications to talk over the Internet, that's when you will have your Internet connection taxed. If the government can't micromanage the Internet as taxable revenue, why not just tax everyone's connection and be done with it? The only question I have, is when will it happen and not if.
In the mean time... everyone can still do their part to cut back on gas even if you can't purchase a new car. Take car of the one you have.
1. Change your oil every 3K miles. If you do it by yourself, send the used oil to an oil change place where they recycle it. Changing your oil keeps your engine from wearing out prematurely and with less friction; you improve your gas mileage. Also, now would be a good time to have your transmission fluid flushed.
2. Get your wheel alignment checked along with proper tire pressure. This alone will give you better MPG when driving at high speeds.
3. With modern cars and their drag coefficient, staying at or less than 65MPH will increase your gas mileage. Remember, the faster you go, the exponential amount of energy is needed to push wind.
4. If you have over 90,000 miles on your car, get your O2 sensors replaced.
5. Check the gap spacing of your spark plugs. If they are too far gone to re-gap, replace them.
6. Flush the engine coolant and replace with fresh. A cooler running engine in the summer will provide better gas mileage.
How about this scary scenario. Imagine all of that oil still being locked up in the Earth. Then one day, a major earthquake cracks open major oil deposits in warm ocean waters. From there, vast oceanic life would be blocked of sunlight...which would cause a major drop in O2 levels. Eventually, could lead to mass extinction.
So maybe...just maybe it's best that we get rid of this oil from the planet in a controlled method. IE using it for energy efficiently.

How about glass? Like they used to?
Because it takes more energy to make and melt glass than it does to use a byproduct of oil, such as plastic.
How about the first amateur spy satellite, or the first communication satellite? Something tells me that if Nasa isn't too concerned with tracking these things, the Department of Defense (DoD) WILL BE!!!
Duck and cover boys! Something tells me the men and black might be giving these amateurs a lecture soon. Also, does this fuel more reasons to startup the "Starwars" project that was going on in the 80s under Regan?
I'm running WinXP Pro (SP1) with a P4 2.8. Because I have hyper-threading enabled, Windows shows two CPUs. So even though my computer will handle multi-tasking more efficiently, I find that parts of Windows are not SMP optimized. For example; when I do a search in the registry through REGEDIT, I only seen one CPU being maximized. Also, if I push Internet Explorer, it too only is using one CPU at a time. But one thing I've noticed is that Windows will automatically ballance thread load to CPU. By dynamically alocating processor affinity, Windows runs smooth without being bogged down regardless what I through at it. SMP is very nice!
I'm not an expert in large scale networking. But, wouldn't it be possible for the people of China to access the Internet through satellite access? Could free nations allow the Chinese access to their satellites? I'm sure that would really piss off the CCP! After all, their government wants to invade Taiwan. What better way to put a kink in the works by starting a revolution among the Chinese people for freedom.
You wouldn't know about them unless you asked the local police department. They will disclose the information to you. Also, depending on what state you live in, a realtor must disclose of any nearby sex offenders within the neighborhood you wish to live in. So you get to know regardless of whether or not you care. It's part of Megan's Law.
Being labeled as a "sex offender" will ruin your life forever in America. Once your labeled, I don't think there is anyway of getting rid of this title. I call it a title because it's exactly that. Try getting a job with a future employer. Try finding a place to live. Try anything. Once you're labeled, the stigma ostracizes you from the rest of society. It's enough to make you flee from the country, or commit suicide.
I guess what I'm getting at is this. If your going to be labeled as a "sex offender". The government better damn well have compelling evidence to label you as one. And I don't think having porn on your computer counts. Sex is natural and part of human nature. It's only when it becomes "offensive" to others around you that's at question.
Heh, you will allways have wannabes regardless of the industry. Just look at the whole riceboy thing. Just about every Honda is all show and no go. The real performers to watchout for are the beat-up looking cars at the drag strip. One look under the hood and you will realize were all the money was spent! Screw the body kits and neon lights. I'll take a B16 motor crammed into a 91 CRX any day of the week.
Not only that, but HP, Compaq, Gateway, and Dell would use different brands of memory, power supplies, hard drives...etc for the same model. It all comes down to what they can buy in bulk at the cheapest prices. And even if the parts are total shit quality it doesn't matter. They already factored in failure rate in relation to how much money the saved with brand-x parts. When it comes to building a computer, I truly believe you get what you pay for.
I've been burned with the failure of both my PS1 (the original that was released on 9/9/95) and PS2. And of course, they managed to fix the bugs with future product revisions. And this isn't limited with game systems, but it's rather more apparent with all of Sony's products I've encountered. As much as I want a PSP, I'll wait till a newer product revision (I don't mean model) is released before I crack open my wallet.
Face it, Microsoft doesn't exactly have a good reputation among consumers. With other brands of hardware, why would they choose their hardware other than something unique and/or cheap in price?
Seriously, who would want to by M$ networking equipment? Call me a tinfoil-hat user if you like. But how do I know they wouldn't be logging info I don't have access to and having it sent to their servers?
It's to bad really. Plextor made the best SCSI drives on the market. Now, they don't make any SCSI drives anymore. In fact, I think Toshiba is the only one that makes a SCSI DVD drive.
Ahh...but how much of the 178 million is devoted to cache and how much is devoted to core? From what I understand, GPUs don't have much if any cache as it ties directly into video memory (which serves as its cache as well).
Ever wonder how the Human brain evolved to its current status of complexity? It was because of the need to survive and outsmart eachother for resources (food, shelter, females).
Love it or hate it, we are intelligent beings because of our warlike nature and feelings of insecurity. But it also brings fourth creativity and the desire to understand ourselves and the universe we live in.
We are all animals. Some are just more civilized than others.
Nowdays, CPU (GPUs) are variable in the amount of power they consume in relation to the amount of processing they do. So in that regard, you could process the same amount in less time with a faster processor. Or, use a slower processor that consumes less power but processes at a slower rate. Either way, the net power consumption would be about the same if running a task.

Though it's a pain in the ass, you could always use RogerWilco to voice chat over the Internet.
Will make ya, or break ya. Sometimes profit is based on pure luck.
Shouldn't they have called it Oranges?

Among the burned ruins, they will have found a list of these books.
1. Building Pyramids for Dummies
2. Finding lost ruins.
3. How to burn a library. (currently checked out)
it would keep your balls warm too
Is this before or after they fall off from excessive radiation? If I'm ever to have a laptop running on Pu-238, it better come with a lead jockstrap!

I find it ironic that the Wayback machine poster is right next to the unit. Do I detect a hidden message? Hmmmm ;)
