Why do desktop users need 64 bit other then having support for more then 2GB of RAM? For general processing, 32 bit is just fine. The only time 64 bit processing would usefull is when rendering video, and that is off-loaded by 3D cards nowdays.

I hear the DeBeers uses a laser to etch their own logo on diamonds. I'm sure the logo is really small, but this is done to authenticate the real thing. So even if fake diamonds are cheaper and better, DeBeers will still sell their own "natural" rocks based purely on marketing.

And with synthetics, you can't use their logo or it would be trademark infringement.

The idea of capitalism is that you take advantage of negative human traits such as competition and exploitation. And as an end result, these actions end up benefiting humanity as a whole in a more positive light.

While it is true that corporate greed runs rampant in our society, don't think our standard of living has gone down hill because of it. Because by that reasoning, we should still be in the Dark Ages if not the Stone Age.

Keep in mind that sometimes you have to take a step backwards in order to take two steps forward. And in my opinion, capitalism is still the best way to bring out better progress for all of humanity given humanities current social behavioral nature.

Maybe when humanity evolves many thousands of years from now, communism will be the best route. Until thin, keep and eye on the bigger picture.

There might be an industrial application for such a diamond. For example, if you hollow out one of these gigantic diamonds, i'm sure it would make for a nice single piece hull of spaceship. Or better yet, a probe for exploring the deepest depths of stars and gas giants without fear of implosion.

Of course, trying to chip at such a diamond would be a bitch.
