OMG, I was thinking the same thing. Google Earth is the biggest example. As for Raven... I'd be more worried about people on board airplanes with glass knives.
Seriously, that book has had a profound impact on modern technology, albeit mostly unacknowledged. Earth -> Google Earth Stringers -> Bloggers MetaVerse -> ?? Second Life ?
I've always wondered why the Chevy Volt is planned to have a 4-cyl engine. Initially they spec'd it for a turbo 3-cyl 1 liter... basically a beefed up Geo metro engine. But Diesel should have been the initial plan, railway locomotives have been using that setup for decades.
Gas would have to be $6/ gallon for the volt to be cheaper than existing hybribs like the Insight, and about $7 for the volt to be cheaper than a typical small car like the Yaris. Assuming 100% financing @ 7% for 60months, 100 mile round trip (sorry, that's my personal variable for the equation).
I'd gladly buy the cheaper car with decent mileage over the expensive volt...
I hope economies of scale can bring down the price for the future versions.
No, You pretty much nailed it on the head. I think the major gist of it is: It's wrong to pick on kids, adults *should* know better... Parents need to be mindful of their kids online activities... If someone tells you to jump off a bridge, and you jump off the bridge, there was something fundamentally wrong with you...
Maybe Amarok is Undisputed if you use KDE... I'd never heard of it before *just now*... I use gnome, and I like rythmbox... Someone could just as easily say "MPD: the undisputed champion"
I took two weeks off when my son was born. I changed nothing in my eating habits, but I was doing chores around the house constantly. Lost 8 lbs. I slowly gained it back once I was back at my desk.
If only they would give me an option to do AppleTV like that... Think about it, you pre-pay for NetFlix, it takes about a day to get a movie, you send it back and get more. AppleTV could do the same thing, maybe make the expiration dynamic, tied to when you get a new movie. I'd pay for that.
Anyone else notice that the article about "worlds fastest kayak" wasn't really about the boat. Seemed like it was more about a particular ride. I wanted specifics, ya know, more techie stuff like said 3d wire mesh or something.
Who do I see about getting a refund on my wasted bandwidth?
Seriously! I know they made it primarily to showcase the open source software, but they could have at least made an attempt to make it mildly entertaining!
"George has shown us the way and *everything* is merchandised to the hilt."
Remember that "Spaceballs" made that point a while ago. Yogurt was in merchandising, the whole movie was a play on that "Spaceballs, the toilet seat" and more recently "Spaceballs: the DVD Menu"
life on earth would cease without the moon, it acts as a gravitational counter-weight keeping the earth's rotation fairly constant. without it, the earth would rotate wildly
What sony does that has really set them apart from Microsoft, is to focus on the game developer. With that in mind, You'll probably see the official PS3 linux, as also the nice SDK's... It's all in the titles that the platofrom runs that makes it successful... Just cuz the XBox has the best hardware hasn't made it the #1...
This Y2K hysteria is such a perfect example of the blind leading the blind! I've seen that the people who are most frightend by this hype are the one's who know the least about it... I, personally , sleep easy at night, being well aware of the copious hours of work being put in by software engineers to ensure a smooth transition. But you ask joe shmo on the street, and he'll tell you how he's hording supplies and turning his assets into gold bullion! I've had people ask me If I thought their cars were Y2K complient! Now come on! Since when does an automobile even CARE what day it is?! My own mother has even asked me if the Microwave oven was ready fo the new millenium.
This madness has got to stop! I blame the media for making foolish, un-informed speculations to a largely uneducated (as far as technology goes) crowd. The only real thing we have to fear for Y2K are those spooky predictions by that Nostradamous character, now that's something to prepare for;-)
It's only natural for Sun to try and stab at Microsoft... Microsoft has always worked hard at keeping others down, especially Sun, I mean come on! First the try to kill Java, then when that didn't work, they just made their own polluted version of it to try to confuse (ala Tower of Babel) the industry. Retaliation on Sun's behalf is only to be expected... As long as they don't make StarOffice a "Java-only" application, I don't mind!
Deliverator is my Hiro. :)

Look for ArachnoFiber around the corner

Just a lame statement

That movie was called Anti-Trust. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0218817/
Must be a slow news day, yup

I guess their "secure website" wasn't up to snuff... BTW, what the heck is a boffin?

Did anyone notice that a few years after the 2.7 probability pass, there is a 9.4 impact probability. that seems to be more noteworthy
Darn, Backordered, I guess that means they won't ship in time for xmas.
All that's left now is a pizza sized oven, and I'll be set :)

I've also heard that Diebold CEO has had many meetings with bush. I think they're mentioned in Micheal Moore's book "Dude, Where's My Country"
