This page explains the link between Black holes & Supernovas...
When stars of very large mass explode in a supernova, they leave behind a core which is so massive (greater than about 3 solar masses) that it cannot be stabilized against gravitational collapse by an known means, not even neutron degeneracy. Such a core is detined to collapse indefinitely until it forms a black hole, and object so dense that nothing can escape its gravitational pull, ot even light.
If you genuinely believe some poor kid deserves to be banged up and have his life wrecked because he dropped your Orc in the sea then Get A Life. There's plenty of serious REAL problems on this planet if you feel like crusading for something worthwhile.
So hacking related to 'games' is just fine?
If someone were to hack into the computers running a NBA or NFL game, crash the scoring system and the video system... made the game get cancelled for the night - you'd just dismiss the hacker and say 'it was just a game... no real harm done...' ????
I used to be into the FPS games way back for Quake I & II, but lost interest after seeing sequels that added eye candy, but added nothing to the actual game... Pikmin is the most original game I've played in a long time, and I look forward to seeing the second one...
It's slightly ironic that the BBC, through the commissioning of Monty Python, also gave 'spam' its name.
Why then, does the article show a pic from a Monty Python animation about the black spot who goes to seek his fortune...
You'd think they'd use the actual pic of the skit with the Vikings in the cafe...

This was news to me:
According to the Harvard report, pop-up advertisements for Sun Microsystems' powerful V880 server, boasting "See how Sun beats IBM," are aimed at Gator users who visit IBM.com.
I had no idea there were actual users of Gator... I thought they were tricked into installing it like the rest of us...
Next time on Oprah.

I'm very sorry you don't have the time to log in before flaming people.
The 'article' you mention says nothing about what the Task Force is, nor its composition. The links above are to a mailing list signup page, and this:

Just a quick note to say that we (we as in Fizzer Task Force/IRC Unity)
now control the update page, and have posted a mirror of the
http://www.debugoutput.com/fizzer.php site on the geocities website that
fizzer uses to update itself.
We have also postted a fizzer cleaner to the actual URL that the bot
downloads its updates from, as a self extracting and running executable.
We're crossing our fingers that the bots are looking for an executable
to update themselves..
We'll keep you updated..

Not very informative, is it?
Following several links, I was able to find this:
Who is the Fizzer Task Force?
The Fizzer Task Force is a large collection of individuals from over 80 IRC networks working together to try to hold back or destroy this worm.
Oh. Okay. That explains it. They're some guys on IRC. That's great. They're using IRC to kill the worm. Does anyone know if any of them actually wrote the darn thing?
"Hi, Geocities? Yeah, we're a bunch of guys using IRC, and we'd like to have access to one of your accounts, because we think it's got something to do with a worm. Can we just access it for a minute to try out a patch we think might work? Great. Thanks."
Sure, the robot vac is 'k3wl3r' and scares the cat, but it doesn't sound like it results in 'less work'
That bit about the cat would make it worth it to me if I had a cat and didn't already have one...
I have a Roomba, and I love it..
It requires a fair amount of cleaning to keep it running right at first, but once you've gotten your carpet really clean, it doesn't pull up as much stuff during every cleaning if you let him run often enough. Once you get all the heavy dirt up, and there's not much to pick up, the Roomba really does well...
I've never noticed the Roomba having a problem getting the whole room, either. I think the wall detection thing is just a $2,000 gimmick.

So this actually happened 140 million years ago...
Slashdot is just now reporting on it? News from the 'mysterious future', indeed.

I don't think so.
I don't agree...

Will ISP's take up this same model and charge more for bandwith?
What about the students that don't use this service? Are they exempt from the charge?

Or rapists only go after the skinny ones?
Using the technique they used in 3DMark, they'd be able to improve the speed of pre-recorded demos, but not during the actual game...

Overclocked Watercooled Ants?
Do they work faster with higher bus speeds?
Gives new meaning to having bugs in the system...
I'd love to see a high-res version of this... Like from a Hubble-sized telescope around Mars...
Yeah, I know it wouldn't really look like anything we haven't seen before, but to know that this pic was taken from the orbit of another planet...
Okay, not originally said about ethernet... "How can one little insulated wire bring so much happiness??"

Nothing like a good typo to derail the entire article...
Whose authority are they acting on? As this virus can affect computers across the globe, is an international team working on this?
Did GeoCities work with the international community before handing the account over to this task force?
Is this leading up to HDTV Tivo?
