Er.. no. How many billions more dollars must be wasted on the 'education system' before people realize throwing money at it does no good - including pay for teachers.
The AFT teacher salary survey for the 2004-05 school year found that the average teacher salary was $47,602
Note that in 2005 the median household income was $46,300. [we'll assume teacher salaries are not so widely dispersed that the mean is a fair estimate of the median] Teachers get a tremendous benefits package and do not work a full year.
The students educated before electronic blackboards, computers in every class, class size under 20, (insert stupid education metric here) managed to graducate high school and go on to such things as developing quantum mechanics, various field theories, nuclear weapons, man on moon, space probes,....
And until you actually pay for the little rugrats education by owning a property you will never fully understand just how much it costs. My latest assessment results in local school taxes in excess of the full year tuition at the state college. And before you claim the college is subsidized, so is the local school system. The system is horribly broke and it is time turn back the clock and revert to what once worked very well (note to parents: this might also include getting the balls to disciplining your child).
are many, but generally all roads lead to fact the nuclear industry can't afford not to have a reactor running and hence engage in panic buying/hording. This has happened before. In addition, there was a bit of a free ride since the early 90s as USSR warheads were recycled for fuel and that supply is now winding down requiring more real mining. In addition, a large Canadian operation was damaged. As to ultimate world wide supply, one has to keep in mind the continued 'demise' of oil as well as the fact as price rises formerly uneconomic sources become viable.
This all is somewhat old news, I wrote about the pricing issues briefly here and here (middle)
well clearly I'm not up on the behind the scenese technical details, but any driver installation happens transparently after the first time. All I do now is open the encrypted volume anything else happens automagically.

Well said. But can you ever see a situation where the union would allow competency testing (and pay based on the results?)
I'm near the end of the comments and haven't seen mention that schools pushing AP classes are basically involved in a scam. What was once a honors level/advanced class with real meaning and application to first year college has been watered down to be 'everyone should take AP' and 'we are a great school because we have AP classes' even though many students either do poorly on the tests or ultimately suffer in college.
You do realize the Teacher Union mafia will be coming to get you now, don't you? Sure there are some places where teachers may really be underpaid, but on the whole they are paid about as well as the rest of the population. When you factor in the lifestyle (summer off, winter break), maybe it is not such a bad deal. But just don't say that to any Mom with kids in school, you'll have your balls cut off before you even finish.
You are backing away now, but your basic point seemed to be that the US has an "astronomical" number of "true believers" in large part because they are not as educated as other countries, even though there are any number of other countries with high levels of 'true believers' which some would consider more intelligent because of child test scores. I would also take issue with your definition as a)many people are only religious in the broadest sense and b)not all religions of the world say there is a god(s), ie Buddhists to name one large group.
If your point is meant to be that the researcher is wrong, you would do better
to point out that the behavior can be unlearned as evidenced by the
lower levels of belief in the Communist block countries and northern (and generally socialist leaning) Europe, even though up until about 75 years ago
those countries would also have reflected very high numbers of true believers.
The number of "true believers" in the US has always been astronomical, the number of people who self-identify as "born again" Christians or fundamentalists is off the charts relative to almost any other western country you want to name. The level of education in the US is also corespondingly low relative to other western countries.
BS on all fronts. What exactly is a "true believer" in your book? Anyone
who is not an atheist? As to the born again/evangelicals, please come back
with a % of total US population - its nowhere near as high as you think. As
to other countries being more or less religous - many are more so, such as
Latin America and southern Europe. That the UK, Germany and France are now
less so is only a relatively recent change.
From Wikipedia:
In addition, the ratio of college-educated adults entering the workforce to general population (33%) is slightly below the mean of other developed countries (35%)[5] and rate of participation of the labor force in continuing education is high.[6] However, a recent study showed that "A slightly higher proportion of American adults qualify as scientifically literate than European or Japanese adults".
Has being smarter
on math tests actually made the Germans (or others) richer? Check on per capita incomes.
on the original poster, how about reducing emmissions simply because its healthier not to breath in all that crap?
on this poster commenting on population - I do wonder if these climate models actually consider the heat output of the increased population of the past 100 years? Nevermind the fossil fuel use, just the heat of bodies (and associated increased food stock) alone has to add quite a few Joules.
er.. not in this case. Their 'explanation' is that they had fallen behind, which in fact was the case as when DJIA was "down" 295, futures were
already down 400 and sinking. In fact, I commented to another trader what a nice
arb was out there if only one could short on the downtick in the cash
market. Note also that there were already some limitations in effect
on automated program trading (tick rules)
In the event of a 180-POINT DECLINE in the NYA, all index-arbitrage sell orders of the S&P 500 stocks must be stabilizing for the remainder of the day. Collar will be removed if the NYA moves back to within 90 points of the previous days close.
At one point the NYA was down 400 pts. This 'blame it on the computer' or 'it was china' are BS. Stocks were over extended. While any one thing might have some effect, the time was ripe and the buyers could no longer hold the bid in the face of china sell off, weaker econ data, Greenspan, Afghanistan, Irock, etc etc simultaneously. There is too much leverage in use, too much complacency and just too much liquity. When all rush for the door in the face of trouble this is what happens.
Regulation should only go so far as OTA tv/radio as cable/sat are not using the "public" airwaves nor are they free. Totally agree with prior poster that this is the PARENTAL UNITS responsibility - not mine. However, content providers - if they have a clue at all - will voluntarily brand all their programming with the appropriate rating so that V-chip and other technologies can be correctly used by said lazy ass parents.
Yes, even I had a TV in my room - once I was 13 - and it only did OTA (cable wasnt around for a few more years and even when it was there was no way Pops was paying for an extra hookup). It also required I get up to change the channels contrary to the disbelief of kids today. Perhaps more parents should think about what they put in their childs room first? Give a very limited choice of content and make it more desirable to watch in the family room than in their own room.
I've not read any of the technical papers on this yet but off hand I wonder if a) you can ever get the same luminosity as more traditional methods and b) how well can this be used for heavier particles? I suppose the first real world use would be as an injector?
*sigh*
regardless of what you think about the Iraq war (pre or post) you people need
to get a handle on yourself and your facts.
Judging from your apparent angle you should find this page acceptable:
http://costofwar.com/
Find me the trillions you are speaking of? Even double it for money spent
until we get out and to replace weapons. $750b.
Second, this is debt - as is a large part of the rest of the budget. On
an accrual basis the deficit is still > 500B/ year. And shall get much worse,
not because of defense or other discretionary spending, but becasue of those
wonderful things called entitlements.
When your hero Obama comes up with a solution to funding the current gap
in entitlement outlays then I'll listen to him talk about making broadband and
whatever else a 'right'. I'll even forget about the 'redirection' of corporate
efforts.
Last - income taxes do not fund social security, medicare or medicaid so don't
start with the 'tax breaks for the rich' bs.
'Let's invest in scientific research, and let's lay down broadband lines through the heart of inner cities and rural towns all across America. We can do that.'
So.. who is going to pay for all of this? Is he advocating putting the government
in the broadband biz? Is he demanding government micromanage scientific research and direct it at the problem du jour? Or is he advocating forcing corporations to do this at government behest?
and what about an op-ed columnist who a)gets paid by a newspaper and b)gets paid for speaking engagements? why stop there? isn't the newspaper really a lobbyist by your definition? They have editorials (and op-eds) every day not to mention most newspapers have a political slant. All newspapers sell advertising hence they meet your definition of 'making something' off what they write.
Sigh... and mine was $50 and yours is...$500+ for not a lot more. And yes I bought a couple of 1GB cards for < $20 bucks a pop. You kinda skipped the keyboard.. like I said lets see that touch screen typing sending emails.. hope your fingers arent too greasy when you do! 2mp vs 1.3mp camera? who cares they both suck bro.. and wow.. mine is a half ounce heavier..oh the burden of it. Have you ever used the mda? It does more than most people will ever hope to use.
Hey its your dough.. you want to waste 5 or 600 bucks on something that isnt really much better than whats out there for < 100 thats your right. But please dont even begin to claim that the iPhone is 'revolutionary' as so many have as it simply is not and it is more than likely to be leapfrogged by others inside of 6 months.
I have all of those features plus a pull out keyboard on my HTC wizard today and it cost me all of $50 with a 2 year contract. And I'll challenge Jobs to a typing contest on my "little pull out keyboard" any day. I mean really..what is new with this? That it runs a variant of OSX instead of another OS? I'll be waiting for the real world (non fanboy) reviews of it in operation.

No, it does not. Iran has virtually no natural uranium - at best they will
be able to enrich fuel for one reactor.
No fuel = reactor sits idle = no cash flow to pay debt

think TrueCrypt is "the only" one.
Clipped (and truncated) from the website:
less shadows and flat light = more time out and probably less accidents too.
