    We thought the same thing about one of my uncle's parents. "Granny" was devoted to her husband, and we all figured she'd be gone herself fairly soon after he passed, but she was around almost a whole decade after, still being one of the sweetest grandmas ever.

    I am on the right and I cannot stand to watch Sean Hannity, because he is too partisan.

    He is, however, representative, so he's still useful.

    It's a holdover from my days in sales. You can never do too much oppo research. Also, it's worse than that: I listen to a lot of right-wing radio. The TV stuff is watered down.

    But that is pretty much an insane way to look at our work force.

    It worked for eight years for Sean Hannity. Until a few months ago, it was a daily ritual for him to mention the 90 million Americans who weren't working in Obama's America.

    Let's take that assertion at face value. Further, let's even suppose that you are right. Now, we're the species that have risen from warlords and chieftains to a planet that is more democratic than not. We have eradicated deadly diseases. We have landed on the moon. So, should we just throw up our hands and say fuggedaboutit, or maybe, just maybe, we could work a little harder on problems like these, where the problem is essentially to tell a bunch of assholes (and the smaller group of management assholes who are enabling this) to stop being assholes?

    Actually, you DO hear them whining about this endlessly....

    No, you really don't, because liberals aren't strict constructionists. The default liberal attitude is compromise, whereas the default conservative position is more doctrinaire. Also, since we're talking about yanks here, your average US liberal is actually pretty OK with at least a certain amount of defense spending if only because of the greater good it does in promoting global stability. (Whether their assumptions in this are correct is another issue entirely.)
