I work for a mobile operator and the following is why wifi will win cellular as it is now.
1) Wifi is a lot cheaper than 3G, etc.
2) Use of Wifi is not just open to mobile operator's, meaning that if devices (like phones) support Wifi, the market will be blown wide open and mobile operator's will have to compete with any company willing to enter the market. Mobile operator's will be not much different than an ISP is now.
3) If a user uses GPRS or any high-bandwidth cellular technology, they use up bandwidth that could have handled lots of calls and sms. Thus although operators hype about these technologies they would rather prefer you not use them, thus these services are more expensive. The more expensive they are, the better alternative Wifi will be.
The operator where I work sold lots of 7650's, but do not allow you to use IMAP to read mail. Why, because they make less money that way. On the other hand they worked their way into M$'s ass because the CTO thinks "Powerpoint will sell phones". Now they allow you to access exchange in order to sell SmartPhones which no-one wants to buy... The laws of Economics do not appy to M$.
Apple makes money selling specialized hardware. Only problem is that their cpu's are slowly drifting and drifting out of competition with Intel and AMD.
If this gap becomes too big then no flashy gui is going to save you.
So now Steve has to this really hard problem. Say I put an AMD chip into my Apple hardware, won't that mean that I'm only selling a GUI now as my GUI doesn't force me to buy Apple hardware anymore?
You get other scheduling solutions than that provided by exchange.
But you have a point. Microsoft locks you into buying certain products due to idiot decisions you have made about purchasing some of there other products.
Sorry none of the above:) I have this bad habit of assuming people will respond in the worst way. Maybe it is because the one in a million that would do that, usually do.
Don't let the Africa fool you. It has been around for 130 years and currently has about 500 000 students world-wide. Their postal and assignment system is just amazing considering all the students. Anything else I can mention to show that the only thing 'African' about it is its location and Student Council, would put someone here on a rascist crusade so I'll refrain.
Hi,
The Orange one isn't the first commercially available
Smartphone.
It has been for sale from SMART (operator) in the Philippines for the last few months.
I do not think it is selling as expected seeing that most people do not care about Powoerpoint, etc on their phones... CEO's tend to make decisions based on their own reference framework and not that of the market which they do not represent.
You do not get it.
Microsoft gives a shit about major cellphone manufacturers, they are using cheap manufacturers in Asia to mass produce these phones.
Most desktop user do not care about what brand their computer hardware is but just that they can run Windows on it.
They plan to do a Netscape on all major phone manufactures, not be partners with them...
You are obviously not an idiot, reconsidering the language you use would do wonders for your future.
I am not aware of the fact that Exchange was known for performance. In fact most open-mail servers outperforms it handsomely.
I would not be surprised if their new server will only support the MS SmartPhone, blackberry support will die a silent death as a result.

Hi,
There is an alternative outside the United States. Go have a look at the University of South Africa.

I have first hand experience that Nokia will be too dense to figure it out before they are screwed.
