Microsoft survives only because it's a monopoly and the entire market is dominated by Windows programs, but imagine that most people would run Windows in Parallels do you think that programmers would even bother to write/compile programs for Windows or they would write them directly for Mac (or Linux)?
"If you don't pay our well paid lawyers will destroy you" -- this sounds like a racket to me.
And actually the bad part is not (only) the organization who tries to extort the money this way I think the real problem is the judicial system that doesn't give poor people a fighting chance.
First of all he was not convicted of anything yet, so it would be polite to consider him innocent until proved guilty. Second, he develops a file system not "Linux", ReiserFS could be very well used in other OSes including Windows.
How nice your comment will look in 2-3 years when iPhone would prove very popular, maybe it will be just as funny as "no bluetoth, less space then a Nomad... lame"
Look like it's time to switch to an open source application that uses open source standards. It's funny that usually people complain that they don't have alternatives, in this case OpenWengo Phone works fine and actually even better, on Linux it has video conference, Skype didn't release yet a client that does that.
Not trying to be elitist, but I think we have first to figure out if we want everyone to use Linux.... I mean I prefer my system to be free and relatively unpopular rather then Windows-like and popular.
OK, so you say it's trade secrets, what trade secrets did the poster knew and posted on Apple site? And how come they are "secrets" if common people know them... still very fishy...
Exactly, what can you expect from those control freaks... take a look at what they are trying to do with iPhone. Man I'm glad they don't have Microsoft market share, then we'd be screwed completely.
I'm not sure I understand, what "intellectual property" did the poster violated? I mean if it's something that random user know how come is "intellectual property" of somebody else? This sounds fishy to me.
Besides, "intellectual property" is a weasel expression, use "copyright" or "patents" to make it clear what this refers to, there's no law about "intellectual property" as far as I know but there is about copyright and patents (although there shouldn't be any software patents in my opinion).
Just as the other people I doubt females smell more then males, but otherwise I agree with you, I can smell women probably 10-20 feet away (50 is a little be too much, but if the wind blows directly towards me it's possible). I also associate smell with places and even feelings, more than sounds or views (for example if I visit a new city or country the first thing I notice is the different smell and that's what I usually remembers best when I return to a place) so maybe I'm a smell oriented guy.
1. uses a free protocol. 2. it's free software (yes, free as in speech or freedom)
Skype is neither free nor uses a free protocol, Gizmo Project is not free (at some point it had a big disclaimer when you installed it, something along the line of: "we don't guarantee that it doesn't contain a virus or that doesn't contain adware" -- No, thank you.
"locked down", "proper precaution" -- is it that what we see in _real_ world? My company paid $200,000 only to clean computers of viruses and spyware in one semester, and that doesn't include lost productivity and lost data and info and identity theft. (none of those were Macs or Linux machines, and we have those too)
To me it seems that the biggest cost with Windows is not the upfront cost per seat, it's probably the cost of maintanance and data lost due to viruses and spyware, but hey, what do I know....
I think you read only the description and didn't bother to RTFA. The article is pretty interesting because it talks about 2 ways to adapt to changes: 1. physically selection -- longer legs get selected 2. behaviour selection -- those who climb in trees get selected (those good climber have shorter legs which is opposite to first way of "adapting")
So, in this case, it seems that behavioral selection is more important than physical selection and that takes precedence and thus behavior influence the physical constitution of the surviving population.

Or maybe we should interpret that there is no need to use Symantec products in Windows, right?
I, for one, wholly approve of anyone sacrificing for my own good.
Hans Reiser?
First of all he was not convicted of anything yet, so it would be polite to consider him innocent until proved guilty.
Second, he develops a file system not "Linux", ReiserFS could be very well used in other OSes including Windows.

I actually ask people if they are not satisfied with Windows and why, and why are they interested in alternative operating systems (if they are).
It's easier to promote Linux to somebody who wants more security than to somebody who says he likes gaming in Windows.
Not only that but they patented the blood sucking technology. Dracula must be spinning in his grave.
I wouldn't trust anyone else to run my search engine!

The point is that we don't know what the guy allegedly violated: copyright? patent? trademark? trade secrets? Which one?
Call me troll all you want, you brainless fan-boy...
"But it's Apple."

Civ 3 works, but it sucks so much that's almost not playable. Interesting that you see all the map from the begin without the fog-of-war.

I'm not sure Ada Byron and Marie Curie deserve to be put in the same category with Paris Hilton.

Those who had sex during the movie, and yes, it was a girl. *grins satisfied*
At least now we have a reason for not reading TFA.
That's actually an interesting idea. This way Novell will get an imediate idea what is the reaction of their users.
