It might be wrong to leverage lock in to create anti-competitive practices but that is basically what the console market is and always has been. It does seem like M$ is desperate to squeeze as much profit out of the 360 as they can, as they attempt to push off the upgrade to the next console for as long as possible. Of course cheap general purpose PCs are eating up the capability gap with the added benefit of really low priced games.
So the big profit panic, is it being driven by this console being the last console with no upgrade future. Cheaper more powerful computers battle with the fact they result in bigger and far more expensive computer games and of course a huge number of existing very playable titles.
Digital big screen TVs with the build in capability to play existing game titles and browse the internet etc will kill the console (Sony can last longer by adding playstation built into their TVs).
With the internet everything is changing. Those abuses that were hidden and becoming more and more public. Every internet discussion about human rights, no matter where in the world about the small working together to challenge and defeat the big and about the inherent ugliness of those who think they are still in charge.
The size of the audience that accepts the lies of corporate mass media and, it's puppet politicians is shrinking by the day. While we might be disturbed by the machinations of the corporate controlled political machine, we have to remember it is only now visible and not many years ago it was largely hidden.
What we are looking on now, is the ugly frantic writhing of dark disgusting multi limbed creature, used to hiding in the dark, now exposed to the light and ready to be stomped on by the people's internet.
It's going to be the great, size, feature, price war and part of that will be content lock in. It will be interesting and part of it will be also be the size of smart phones.
So in the shuffle so pad either 4 times the size of a smart phone or 9 times the size of an smart phone. How much bigger can a smart phone be with out it being reject as to big, How would a bluetooth headset/stylus combination affect the outcome (stylus for finer input control and mike at one end and speaker the other so you never have to hold too large device up to your head, dock to recharge).
More importantly the grading process is driven by grades. If everyone gets a A+ your grading way to easy. So ideally you should grade to a sliding scale, so that some get A+ and some fail. This is normal and to be expected just like 100 IQ being the average should also gain an average grade, those below needing to do more work to pass and those above tending to cruise or work harder and achieve higher grades.
Latops in classrooms should ideally replace textbooks and allow more to be taught in the area of socio-economics, law and political understanding. Simulations can also be used to provide greater understanding of complex interactions.
The never ending problem I have found with computers is the majority treat them like a magic box and just like a magic box it will do the work for them, learn for them and understand for them. Beware the magic box will not make learning anything else easier, it fact it will make it harder because you also have to learn how to use the magic box. Computer make information more accessible they do not make it easier to learn (a higher IQ does that).
Computers can of course be used to more effectively tailor the learning experience to the IQ of the children, providing challenges for those with higher IQ and providing more help for those with problems. They could be used to accelerate the smartest through the education process, allowing them to graduate early and move on.
What a load of crap. Once others, with questionable allegiances had gain and published the password, for reasons as yet to be clarified, there was little point in Wikileaks keeping any parts of the documents secret.
Those foreign agencies that wanted the data for supposed nefarious purposes now already had access to it. So Wikileaks could either maintain the illusion, so typical of the way government agencies work or just simply release the data so everyone had access.
PS bugger you and all the other shit heads who thinks it's appropriate for the government to keep secrets from the public that would have a substantial impact upon future elections.
This just makes you and your kind, the treasonous scum of all. It has not and never has been the job of a government intelligence and policing agencies to protect lying, cheating and stealing, government bureaucrats and politicians from the justice of the people.
Especially when those lies are cover up the most heinous of crimes including mass murder, lies to promote and extend wars, corruption and gross abuses of office.
Sometimes satire can be a little to subtle and get's missed in the modding, of course free market trolls sometimes get offended by satire ad mod accordingly.
Genuine free market forces at work. When their is a glut of workers free market arse hats demand salaries go down. When the is a lack of workers and free market arse hats are having to spend the self serving profits on paying more to attract workers, they demand the government allow in cheap trained workers from third world countries to create a glut and undercut the local workforce.
The free market is all about the lowest common denominators, lying, cheating and stealing. About selling crap products till a company goes broke big time and the crooks jump ship with all the profits and starting all over again.
The only things those kinds of people believe in is their own greed. Once their rich, grow old and die, as far as they are concerned the world can choke to death on the pollution they created to get rich, even if it takes their own children and grand children's lives.
Those people are either narcissists or psychopaths either way, they don't care about the chaos they create, the lies they tell or the people that die along the way to them getting rich. A substantial Tea Bagger segment of the Republican party has turned into nothing more than 'the bug con' with it's political members not interested in anything else but getting rich and will tell any lie, no matter how ludicrous, to do it. Even when caught out they, just like your typical conman shameless repeat it, again and again and again.
As the rest of the world watches on via the internet, those blatant narcissist are making a public mockery of the US political process.
Every TV looks pretty much the same, every desktop computer looks pretty much the same, every LCD screen looks pretty much the same, every notebook looks pretty much the same, and why shouldn't every tablet look the same. Ohh that's right because the Apple wanks compared drop resistant tablets (with corner protectors etc,) to basically a eReader.
The problem with your statement of course, is drumroll..., whether we believe you or not. With Apple marketdroids infesting every forum and attacking any counter to their marketing. You should recognise in many posting that people expect to be attacked by the Apple marketing team the second they comment outside the accepted Apple marketing guidelines. It is becoming all to obvious that the Apple public relations trolling is professional and a part of their marketing campaign.
Sure there is a space in the market for a fifty dollar eReader and of course for the fashion conscious and technology unconscious, there is space for iAnything for the time being.
Just consider what has been achieved in the last paltry thousands years. Now take into account the end of the last ice age kicking the crap out of more advanced societies.
So dependent upon how we handle future crisis, just a thousand year could see us off this rock, as long as we do it peacefully.
Horse drawn carriages to part time space stations, abacus to the internet and we are still the same short haired crested rock throwing monies we were one hundred thousand years ago, just the statistical bell curve on IQ rating shifted over a few points.
Its more than that. The US government is being made to look like some poor pathetic excuse of a sock puppet for any US corporation that pays the cent's on the dollar campaign bribes (how much it costs to pay the off, cents, versus how much it ends up costing the US taxpayer thousands of dollars)
It comes off as yet more, jump Mr Congressman, jump, don't ask how high Mr Senator, jump as high as you can. The whole US Department of state is coming of as some pathetic marketing and promotions agency for various campaign donors. Their annoying Mormons on steroids, knocking on other countries doors, demanding worship of the US God, they even print it right on there. "In God We Trust" the US dollar, what an embarrassment.
Wars, trumped up diplomatic disputes, a channel for corporate bribes to other governments and, corporate (often not even US corporations any more) leverage.
Pretty much the same price. Let's be honest those apple products are sold a prices the market will bear. They are produced overseas in the cheapest nasties place to increase profits, not reduce the price to the consumer. Apple is the 'fashion' company of electronics, all marketing, bluff, bluster and a growing more annoying by the day very bad case of histrionics.
Apples share price is based upon the size of the gap between what their products cost and how much they get away with as the sale price. When it comes to actually caring about how they are produced and how that affects local populations, they is nothing but marketing bullshit. If they actually cared they would produce locally and take the smaller margin in "highly automated' production facilities.
Truth is, thanks to gross and disgusting exploitation of labour in China, that labour is cheaper than automation and robots. People tied to menial sole destroying repetitious tasks because they are cheaper and more disposable than robots.
Apple is utterly indifferent beyond marketing and uses a whole host of forum trolls to attack anyone that says different. Why is Apple so forum aggressive because they are a fashion company totally reliant on marketing image, an empty shell (no manufacturing plants, no chip plants etc.) which makes them extremely vulnerable to loss of marketing image (the reality is it happens every time to every fashion image based company, they oversell the lie).
Given sufficient effort and permanently mounting engines on it, a stable orbit could be achieved. Of course mining the asteroid is just silly, unless by mining the actually mean establishing habitable zones inside the asteroid to create a permanent orbiting space station.
The armoured kind, with a many, many metres thick nickel iron hull, with lot's of room for expansion and hiding stuff. A armed and armoured 'er' laboratory in space.
On that basis an orbit beyond the moon sounds silly, one much closer than the moon is far more likely.
The biggest thing about that whole raft of technologies to leave one rock in space only to colonise another, why leave the raft.
Once you have a large realistic coloniser style space craft, why would you leave. No storms, earthquakes, meteors and comets etc. you can't avoid and basically a whole galaxy to explore. As your population grows stop by a Nebula and use readily accessible raw resource to build another ship, a whole fleet on an intergalactic tour, with regular stop overs at interesting worlds, to explore and interact with.
The single biggest fail of that fugly ribbon, is that a menu structure must be as small as possible whilst retaining clarity so as to provide as much room for content as possible.
This easily allows multiple windows open on the screen at the same time, all readily accessible and easily tiled, with lots of content clearly visible and not buried by menus.
File managing is largely, irregular layout handling, more routine file handling shifting and deleting, and most often searching. Should be largely driven by mouse gestures, appropriate right click localised menus, and simple keyboard entries.
Clearly this change is all lock in, copyrights and patent driven. Here's betting an after market file manager ends up dominating the window marketplace,
A creative volunteer body will largely pursue what interests it the most. Bug fixing can be an annoying tedious task, of fixing one problem only to create others, until finally creating the right fix that often fixes many problems at once. Another big problem with bug fixing in a non fixed coding environment, as the application keeps evolving and developing, is your bug fixes might be made dysfunctional.
So what is really required is a, development holiday, a break from making improvements in Firefox to purely focusing on bug fixes, attempting to create a clean slate from which to continue development. This could most effectively be done as an annual event or bi-annual event. Not that it should affect regular critical or security bug fixes just to create the social environment for an all out month long or so, focus on "The Great Bug Hunt" with some awards and notoriety for the best bug killers (make it something of social import to make up for the special effort required).
Coding for Mozilla should always be managed as a social effort, a work of many different peoples and organisations and that social effort should be recognised and awarded. A social director should be considered an important part of Firefox, to draw efforts to various components of Firefox, be it artwork, layouts, promotion, new features, documentation, coding and of course bug fixing. This whiny attack has all the smell of for profit, we hate open source, all over it. A important part of open source is, "IT HAS TO BE FUN", that should never be forgotten. Life is all about greed and ego is only for psychopaths, the rest of us, the majority, want to snare and enjoy it.
'ER' the people are the supreme law in the land and can change the constitution via the normal political process. This crazy notion that a bunch of 'land grabbers' from the 1700 who did not fight against slavery, we somehow the be all and end all of human thought, is just so grossly 'American Exceptionalism' and Tea Bagger nonsense (even when those that wrote it were all European and consciously excluded all native Americans from it through guilt or greed).
In the case of copyright, once the psychopaths and narciccists have been removed from political influence the laws will be re-written to more humane standards of access, based upon those quaint notions of caring and sharing as expressed by the speech.
Everyone just needs to remember that Martin Luther King is of very little value, one amongst billions in fact, what is important is the shared ideas expressed and keeping those ideas alive and growing. He would not want to be idolised, in fact he would be hurt and offended if people placed more importance upon him rather than focusing on the ideas expressed.
You absolutely fail to grasp the idea that co=operation is an ability that evolves based upon autonomic empathic response. People do not co-operate because it is a good idea, real humans co-operate based upon genetics, from primitive to modern societies, that atomic empathic response drives co-operation. The sharing of mutual goals to achieve shared emotional results. I am not surprised you don't get it at all, it's genetic, you might see it written on paper or a computer screen but you can never understand it.
The modern terrorist suicide bomber is unique, whoops oh wait, the kamikaze, Hashishin and even spartans are all the same fight to death and killing any who get in their way http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_bombers.
You of course are incredibly narrow minded, limit your reading and never look beyond your limited range of mass media fed assumptions.
Logic has it that you could use more than one configuration of worm. In fact you could use thousands all with different combinations of passwords. You take the assumption that a very lazy tech company will grab one worm, do an analysis and stop there, leaving many many potential other victims out there thinking they are safe.
Still such a short list seems pointless unless of course relying on a particular tech companies laziness and willingness to blame users for everything, to mass market a false sense of security and simply blame admins who used passwords from that very short list leaving tens of thousands of other popular passwords available for exploitation (so short on purpose).
How about thinking of it more in terms of marketing, developer and consumer acceptance. In creating games to suit a platform, a market ecosystem must be built up of developers and consumers. This can be more readily created with relatively simple games in a web environment using the Google's cloud and aligned ISP's to provide the processing power for consumer to access and play games on relatively low cost devices.
From that basis the gaming environment game of course expand, no different to the expansion of the PC gaming environment over the years of development, into more complex and demanding games and obviously more powerful gaming platforms.
Basically from the phone, to the tablet, to the smartbook and tad dah, the desktop (the desktop either being a more powerful notebook or an actual desktop, perhaps even an open console or more likely a big screen built in optional accessory). Google thrives in an open market and the more areas of the computer ecosystem that are open and available to it the more opportunities it currently has.
Explain the competitive outcome of a suicide bomber, not the bomber but the victims. Explain the competitive outcome of a lethal home invasion. Explain the competitive outcome of a pandemic the kills across all social strata and individual capability. How about a lethal mugging, a plane flying into a building, a large bomb placed in a multi story structure, a bridge collapse, a toxic polluted environment, an industrial disaster, all of these take victims at random and are the true signs of a collapsing society.
The reality is, in a collapsing society, those that cooperate and work together the most, survive in the greatest numbers, working together to eliminate or exiling those lizard eat lizard types (the individuals who work best together eliminate those who only care about themselves regardless of how strong or smart they are).
I see that no matter how obvious you are still blind, those places where "people are fighting over pieces of land with oil and diamonds", how competitive are those societies. Can they compete against societies where people work together democratically. You still fail to grasp the basic understanding that human societies that work together are more competitive than those that tear themselves apart, the kind of thinking you would expect from a psychopath or a narcissist, they honestly are incapable of viewing themselves as part of humanity, a genetic defect and of course the greater the percentage with the defect the more self destructive the human society it produces.
Now would that be a society based upon psychopathic greed or intellectual prowess or humanitarianism or athletic ability or to stupid to plan ahead and use contraceptives.
Just want to clarify the basis of selection and not even look to touch on the issue of which is better for human society a matriarchy or a patriarchy. Just that at the moment it is fairly clear that majority polygamy based societies seem to be pretty unstable, treat the plural members of that relationship more like chattel, child abuse seems to be a national pass time and fairly backward.
Perhaps someone needs to explain the fundamental difference between humans 'a social species' and say lizards. It is not competition within human society, it is competition of the species who by collective and social effort establish species competitiveness. In fact it is very likely that to promote psychotic, lizard like, competition within the human species would break down human society and thus leave humanity vulnerable to direct physical competition with the rest of the biosphere (a guaranteed physical loser).
In human society it is basically insane to think of the rest of human society as the competitor and as something to be preyed upon, exploited and competed with. This is regardless of the last thirty years mass media messages that psychopathy and narcissism are desirable states of a mass consumption humanity (selfishness and forcing ones ego upon others).
Of course if you want to have real theoretical fun, consider a black hole (important in Entropic gravity theory) no longer as a collection of compressed molecules, but as an oversized atom, where gravity, compression and extreme energy levels has forced a fundamental change in the arrangement of the subatomic particles that make up a black hole. Similarly that neutron stars and pulsars are attempting to behave like a very large transitional state molecule.
It is worthwhile to keep in mind that interactions at the normal molecular level are substationally different to interactions sub-atomic level and the problem lies in trying to correlate that difference.
It's called competition, they who provide the best offering at the most cost efficient (not cheap but value for money) wins. So black and white versus pay fifty more for colour and game play. Pressure is on, have to compete or lose.
