There is a huge point if you consider how candidates are screened. In today's job market, employeers get hundreds of resume's. Adding certification criteria is commonly used by non-technical HR departments to weed out "unqualified" candidates.
I am not stating that I think the certs themselves are any guage to an individuals qualifications, but just indicating what they are used for by HR.
A well qualified candiate without a certification may not get the chance to prove themselves in a technical interview.
Its not the best method, but in the case of huge volumes of resumes, I am not sure what a better solution would be.
My current company goes as far as to start weeding process at 4 year degree. Without one, your chances of having your resume presented to a hiring manager are slim.
What does the pRon watchdog group that manages double oriface insertions have to do with archival media? Or are they just concerned with the preservations of my copy of Orgazmo?
Not the kerbango that was unavailable in homes.. Broadband was unavailable.. The sucess of the device would have required more homes to have broadband.. At that time , the number was not huge and everyone was begining to realize that there was not going to be any exponential growth.
I note about being kiilled. Rumor around the office has it that an entire warehouse full of Kerbangoes was sent to a shredder. What a shame. I am sure there was some hacking potential there.
...Kerbango was based on the exact same concept...
And it will suffer from the same problems. Kerbango besides requiring a broadband connection that was not available in enough homes at the time to support the product, also relied on a top-level server to collect data about the possible streams and make them available as "tunable channels". When the UI is a simple knob, don't expect to be inserting the URL of your favorite steaming site from the device. Either an application on a nearby PC will have to make the translation or a top-level service provided by the equipment maker will do the work.
I agree that it's a cool idea, and having been at 3Com during those years, the kerbango was cool, but these products may still need some maturing to be viable. Anything proprietary is bound to hamper their widespread acceptance..
I would think that the P2P and widespread broadband would facilitate the spread of "warez" more than an organized group. Wasnt much of their work focused on repackaging software by "ripping" the music and movies to make it smaller and easier to transport? Comcast is offering 3MB download speeds for its customers, what else could that be used for??;)
Somehow I dont think this effort is going to do much to stop software piracy.
The issue of the interuption of phone use and the ability to communicate is being confused by many.
Being a parent with young kids, we give the babysitter the cell number in case of emergencies. I dont want my calls blocked in an emergency situation.
As for the ringing, if that is the problem, why not mandate phones receiving a signal that forces them into vibrate mode. You solve the problem without interupting the valid use of the device.
...I wonder if they've been depending on the fact that the games are designed for the console only to protect them from rampant copying...
I am sure this is the exact reason. There are multiple layers of copy protection on the XBOX now, DVD Format unreadable, MS Signed executables, etc.
If M$ could have that kind of protection on standard PC hardware they would have released their own emu and sell games to PC and XBOX owners at a huge cost savings.
So what about rental cars? I am not wrapping my lips around the blow hole on some Ford Tarus that Hertz rented to god knows what kind of scum bag.. Those cars are nasty enough after their supposed "cleaning" between renters.. Then again there would then be the new cottage industry of Booze Puffer Disposable Mouth Guards (TM). My idea! Consider this my prior art just in case this BS comes about!
