  1. Wait; Disney Research is a thing? on Disney Research Can Turn Nearly Any Surface Into a Touch Screen · · Score: 5, Interesting

I think the most interesting part of this article for me is that Disney has a research arm. I didn't know or even think about that before seeing this. I took a look at the site and it seems like they do some cool stuff. They have locations near some major universities and in Zurich. Seems like it would be a good place to work.

    Ford Sync is great.

They realize that your car is around a lot longer than your phone so in a lot of ways your smartphone is really the brains, the car is just the interface. The voice works surprisingly well. They have all kinds of API's that let apps on your phone be controlled by your voice via the Sync. I know that Microsoft designed it, but I like it a lot. 2011 Ford Fusion SE is the car I have.

Why does Slashdot even bother to hire and pay an editor? They clearly don't do anything. That headline is so misleading. They didn't shut down the entire Tor network, they shut down a store that was USING the Tor network. Fix it!

AFAIK they are made in Mexico and/or Canada
As always mixture of foreign and domestic parts.

As a side note: Depending on how low level you want to go (eg: all the individual parts) you will never find a phone that is made under worker friendly conditions unless you mine the raw materials yourself and go from there. Of course this is NOT realistic!

  20. LastPass on Multiword Passwords Secure Or Not? · · Score: 3, Informative

I use and love LastPass. It has a really great password generator that I use for all sites. I always use the maximum number of characters and the largest character set (letters, numbers, symbols) the site will let me.

My actual LastPass password (the single point of failure) is 32 characters long. It is a phrase in "leet" speak with symbols padding the start, middle, and end.

I feel pretty safe with this.

Mod this up! If I export my data from Google+ I'm going to put it in what competing service? Yes it is nice that I can export it if a competing service ever does come up but unless the export removes it from the existing service they still have my data. Also we are assuming the new competing service will actually accept the data from the old one, not really a good business decision. I highly doubt Facebook would ever accept an import from another service. They may allow you to do a search to find friends that were on your old service but I don't see anything further being allowed. I don't really see the point.
