A well-deserved 5 for your comment. The "law" part has annoyed me for as long as I've been hearing it.

  2. I did! on Would You Take A Paycut for More Interesting Work? · · Score: 1

In the late 80's I went from a low-level management position (25,000 USD) to a teaching job in a religious school making 8,500, in order to get my certification. Once certified I went to 20,000. I've never regretted it, I love my work.

  3. Freeduc on Building a Linux Computer Lab for Schools? · · Score: 2, Interesting

Freeduc is just excellent. I set up a temporary summer lab with recycled machines stateside and set the default language to Spanish. At the end of the summer the students were able to take the machines home. The families of these immigrant students were thrilled. I was thrilled with the cost, plus the fact that I don't have endless calls for help from virii, spyware, etc.

Great way to "sell" a product that I'm hearing - calling the users stupid. In way, though, this attitute guarantees that I'll be employed forever. When I'm dealing with an angry CUSTOMER, I look like a winner just because I'm willing to listen to their problem and deal with them as the reasonably intelligent people that most of them are. They're looking for answers from a person who will treat them with respect, and I'm just the person who will help them out. Thanks!!

  6. My letter to my representative re: SCO on SCO Lobbying Congress Against Open Code · · Score: 3, Interesting

Rep. Pallone: A company by the name of SCO has been contacting members of Congress in regards to its ongoing litigation and campaign of slander against free software. Its most visible target is the free operating system Linux. While I support anyone's rights to state their views, the copy of the letter that I read contains much that is yet to be proven in court. While SCO has continually widened their attacks, they have yet to prove even one of their assertions in a court of law. Not one. In addition, the letter contains numerous misstatements of fact about free software, and the people who support and contribute to it. I would urge you and your fellow members of Congress to wait until this has been settled by the court system, which is the proper place for this kind of dispute. If at any time you or your staff would like more information about free software, please feel free to contact me. Of course, there are also many excellent web sites on this subject also. 7. Time of Boies withdrawal? on SCO Ordered to Produce Evidence · · Score: 3, Interesting

Can we start a kind of "dead pool" for Boies & Co.? Because of the potential for embarrassment for them, I think it very unlikely they will still be SCO's counsel in 30 days. Let's see who can pick the day and time that Boies pulls out. Also - would Boies need the judge's approval to drop out at this point if SCO wanted to contest that too? The potential for fireworks seems unlimited.
