  1. Re:Planetfall on Can Games Make You Cry? · · Score: 1

I was probably 12 or so when Floyd died. I was utterly crushed. I'm not sure if I cried, but I know I felt like it. No other game made me feel that way.

My 6-year old son, however, cried a couple of nights ago because his Timagatchi website didn't seem to work right and kept asking him for a password (he just didn't understand what he needed to do).

  2. Re:Wrong place. on Video Projector for Home Theater? · · Score: 5, Informative

X1 is best bang for the buck, but be aware that you may notice "rainbows" from the unit (search the avsforum for description of the phenomenon). I noticed them and knew I couldn't tolerate them. After 6 months of research, I settled on a Sony HS20 ($3k). It was 3x the price of an X1, but with its HD capabilities, HDCP/DVI/HDMI support and amazing picture quality, it was well worth the money.

  3. Cowboy Bebop on Movie-Licensed Games That Might Not Suck · · Score: 1

I think a cell-style animation game based on Cowboy Bebop universe would be pretty interesting. There are lots of possibilities from running single missions (like the episodes) or the more involved plot lines of the last episodes of the latter DVDs.

Give the player the ability to switch between characters so that while Ed and Ein are hacking, Faye and Spike can be off hunting, while Jet is off getting information from his sources. Maybe a mix of RTS and FPS.

If they can pull off a real-time 2-D cell animated look so it looked like the anime, then I think it wouldn't suck.

  4. Planetfall on What Games Have Actually Affected You? · · Score: 1

Nearly cried when Floyd died. Infocom games always seemed to grab me much more than the graphics based games. The people that wrote them were, for the most part, real good story-tellers.

Mythic is taking the Dark Age of Camelot servers down until Worldcom clears the problem. Too many people going LD and spamming customer service.

  6. Claymation or CG is the only way to go. on Hitchhikers Guide To Be Made Into A Movie · · Score: 1

The movie will flop if they try to do it as a live action flick. Maybe get those actors to do the voices, fine, but visually it needs to be done in 'Claymation' style (ala Chicken Run) or full CG (ala Shrek).

  7. Re:3rd Party PVR software on Review: Creative Labs Video Blaster - Digital VCR · · Score: 1

I've been evaluating this product and its not utterly bad (as most products I've tried). It is geared to a TiVo replacement where the unit would be attached to a TV and operated by a remote. Most PVR software is geared to be operated using a mouse and computer monitor. This product so far has the best chance of duplicating TiVo functions.

    Two biggest problems:

    1) getting the software to change the channels on my DirecTv satellite receiver. At this moment, you have to manually program each channel. With 250+ channels, that's not going to happen.

    2) As a british product, the electronic program guide (EPG) for the US is just a webpage link to http://www.TitanTV.com (don't know if the brits have it any easier). TitanTV is not bad, but its not geared for use on a TV and remote; it's oriented for use with a mouse and computer monitor... it's just a webpage. This is where most P/DVR software fall short.. woefully.

Took Comcast 4 years from their introduction date to bring cable modem service to Tallahassee. Just like college football rivalries, they kept saying 'Wait until next year'.

As an owner of the A1000 and then A2000, I was looking forward to an Amiga MCC... It sounded like what I want for my living room. Now, screw them. I'm going to homebrew my own. D*mn Gateway, I'd say that was the definitive nail in the coffin.
