Reminds me of the case in Bristol, England when the animal rights activists were somewhat active in the 80s. A package was left outside Bristol Zoo, so the army came along and decided to blow it up, just to be sure. Closer inspection showed it was an abandoned puppy:-(
> The greens are starting to waver in their opposition to nuclear now,
I think you will find it is a very small minority: mostly a subset of older males, but of course certain sections of the media amplify their noise. (Or does anyone know of any young/female Greens who support nuclear power ?)
Well if you are a cyclist, horse rider or pedestrian then Henry Ford *did* destroy the highway system:-( It was expanded and widened by tax dollars/pounds/Euros but now Fords descendants seem to think it is theirs !
I am not sure: sound came and stayed, colour came and stayed (after a long overlap), 3D came and went in the 50s, popping up again occasionally as a gimmick. But maybe on this iteration it will stay (with the better technology).
> You seem to be correct. But what were we, who live in Germany (I'm not a German by the way), doing today???
It is only a holiday in the more Catholic (e.g southern) states: I am in Hessen and we did not have a holiday today. (FYI the real con this year (at least in Germany) is that Xmas and Boxing day occur on Saturday and Sunday this year, so us Monday to Friday workers do not get either of these Bank Holidays:-(
> I think cars that are not moving are probably the least dangerous kind I agree that they are the least dangerous, but badly parked can also be dangerous: on the pavement they can force pedestrians onto the road, they can block sight-lines, force cycles to move out, narrow the road, hide children etc...
> Shifting focus from public safety to revenue collection.
As a cyclist, father, neighbour of wheelchairs users and part time pedestrian I can attest to the problems caused by poor parking (and speeding, red light jumping etc.). If CCTV can help reduce this then I am *all for it*. (If, however, it is only used to catch someone who overstays their meter by a few minutes then it is not so useful.)
Although I work in the Space Industry I am not a Rocket Scientist but it is my understanding that this is *not* a purely computer solvable problem and is explained on the GTOC website: http://www.esa.int/gsp/ACT/mad/op/GTOC/indexII.htm
> hunting for sport We could drop the word "sport" for a start !! All sports I know of require teams of equals and referees etc to ensure fair-play. This is hardly the case with blood "sports". (On the other hand 2 hunters competing against each other would be a different matter !)

Ain't that the saddest part :-(
Even the collapse and then massive bailout of the banks failed to raise more than a mumble.

> That made me smile. I think the general consensus is that no one on this site knows young females.
Yeah: good point !!
(But I guess I was after high profile Greens !!

It would never work as it relies on the honesty of the web page writer (same as meta-data tags are not useful for determining the contents of a page.

And you try and tell the young people of today that ..... they won't believe you.
I am shocked, shocked to find that Microsoft may be cheating.
So it is cheaper to send someone on a one-way trip than to send them on a two-way trip. Who would have thought... !
> Maybe they could harness all that useless button pushing to generate electricity?
Or get lazy buggers to take the stairs and *save* electricity :-)
> Why would Cameron, a deeply conservative aristocrat, care one bit about what the riff-raff can do with his supporter's "intellectual property"?
I guess the obvious answer is that even "riff-raff" get a vote !

It is unfortunate that to a large extent this only applies if they have not yet reproduced :-(
