While I concede that my 50% estimate was misleading, since defense spending accounts for less than 50% of the overall total budget, it does account for over 50% of the discretionary budget , which is the budget that we (through congress) actually have a say in how it is spent. As for the shit for brains comment, I expect no less from an AC but here is a little research for you:
"If the additional elements of defense spending continue to maintain approximately the same ratio to the DoD amount -- and we have every reason to suppose that they will -- then in fiscal year 2004, through which we are passing currently, the grand total spent for defense will be approximately $695 billion. To this amount will have to be added the $58.8 billion allocated to fiscal year 2004 from the $87.5 billion supplemental spending authorized on November 6, 2003, for support of U.S. military actions in Afghanistan and Iraq and for so-called reconstruction of those despoiled and occupied countries. Thus, the super-grand total in fiscal year 2004 will reach the astonishing amount of nearly $754 billion -- or 88 percent more than the much-publicized $401.3 billion -- plus, of course, any additional supplemental spending that may be approved before the end of the fiscal year."

Uh no, any "aid" that our government hands out is at a price. Sometimes it means letting us put troops anywhere we want in their country, sometimes it means high interest rates on the "aid," and sometimes it means buying certain goods only from the US, or selling certain goods at a steep discount only to the US. For example, the Bush administration recently gave "aid" to South Africa in the form of millions of dollars to help fight the rapid spread of HIV. This money was not just given away, it was loaned at higher than market interest rates and the stipulation of the arrangement was that South Africa could only use this money to by AIDS drugs from US pharmaceutical companies at above market costs (rather than from South American companies selling the same drugs at a fraction of the cost). Now you tell me, is that a free handout? The free handout concept is a myth used by non-political (i.e. uniformed) republicans to place blame for our deficit. Much like how they whine about welfare as draining our pockets. In actuality foreign "aid" and welfare combined are less than 10% of our national spending, and defense (a misnomer, as it should be labeled "offense") is over 50%. So I ask, where are our priorities? And does the allocation of our national monies reflect the will of the people or just a few warmongering, wealthy, assholes who can never seem to accrue enough money to satisfy themsleves.

A lawsuit that they of course knew they would lose. Do your homework. Secondly, there are thousands of free open source applications that are available for OSX that you cannot even find a commercial solution for on a Windows PC. Hmm you couldn't find much Mac software at download.com, a overtly windows fanboy site, try a Mac software site, like versiontracker.com or macupdate.com. Again, do your homework. I use both PC's and Macs in Educational and Corporate settings and there is nothing I can do on a PC that I cannot also do on a Mac. The reverse cannot be said. As far as terminal applications, you have got to be smoking crack. And lastly, sheer numbers of programs does not equal superior programs. If windows has 300 programs to handle midi files I would be willing to bet that none of them does it worth a shit. And that several Mac programs work marvelously, thus there is no need to have 217 different programs that do the same damn thing. But you know what, keep using your windows machine, you and your kind keep me paid handsomely:) If the world switched to Macs I would be out of a job.

I am calling BS on your SUV theory. If the auto-manufacturers had some sense of reason or ethics, they would never have produced these monsters. The VAST MAJORITY of SUV drivers DO NOT NEED a vehicle that large. Pay attention to who is driving these beasts and you'll notice it is usually single occupants. Often soccer moms who don't know how to drive the fsckin thing anyway. Not only are the modern giant SUV's horrible for the environment, they are way more dangerous than cars. The only thing the Auto-Makers ever talk about are front-end, head-on collision tests. SUV's do fairly well in these tests, because of how they reinforce the front-end. However, how often do people ACTUALLY run into a brick wall at 60 mph? Almost never. In real world-testing, side-impact, motor vehicle to motor vehicle, these things are atrocious. They will flip at the drop of a hat and since the tops are not reinforced AT ALL and they weigh thousands of pounds, guess what? Smushed occupants. In car to car tests, they destroy other cars, often launching off the car as if it were a now-flattened make shift ramp and flipping itself over. Wonder why you never hear about this? Because you are watching news paid for by corporations who are paid by ignorant people with vast inferiority complexes who feel the need to compensate for this by buying the biggest most expensive trendy vehicle they can find. Makes them feel more manly and powerful. But they still have small penises.

Because it wasn't profitable for us to do so. The US has a lengthy and vicious track record of exerting our political and military might to "capitilize" the rest of the world. Using military tactics for monetary gain is terrorist activity IMHO. Damn, too bad because apparently then we would have been totally justified in slaughtering entire races of people, to suit our greedy-ass ever expanding needs. I mean, we should have been at war, after all, they were living on OUR property and using OUR natural resources. Just like those damn Iraqi's holding all of our oil under their sand. And if you think this war was not about oil, then your head is in the sand. Read a book or two that you were not allowed to read in high school. Now, one can argue with the meaning of documented facts, but one cannot refute their existence. In a true free market economy some of your points might be valid, but this is not a free market, it is one designed to make the rich richer and to secure market dominance regardless of the merits of the product or service. According to recent research by an independent University, for every 100 jobs that Walmart creates in a community, they eliminate 150. The problem is that too many consumers are just as fucking greedy as the major corporations and will sell their mother to save a few bucks on laundry detergent. Walmart treats their employees like shit and every time you shop there, you are telling them that every fucked up thing they do is OK. Just so long as you save 50 cents on your deodorant. Its kind of like continuing to buy M$ products even though they are convicted criminals who have not changed their ways. When, in fact, that is not the case. The points about the economy though, while I admit many of the factors that contributed to our economic downturn were outside of the political realm of the presidency, all of the factors that were within that realm are directly related to Bush Administration decisions. Their ridiculous tax cuts for the super rich were the largest in the history of our nation. And this happened while we were having a rather significant little budget deficit. And please don't start with some welfare bit, because we spend exponentially more money on corporate welfare than we do on unwed single mothers trying to feed their fucking kids.
