Am I the only one who doesn't get the appeal of the Sonic games? Especially the 2D ones? It all starts out well enough, but you get moving so fast there is no way to react to what's coming up next. Sure, I could grind through a level and lose rings until I remember where everything is. Now it's like a memorization chore. Sonic was supposed to be Sega's answer to Mario, so they thought they'd have to show off how the Genesis could scroll things at a million miles per hour -what fun! Wow, it dazzles me! FAIL. FAIL. FAIL.
Yes, when I read about Kodak again I instantly thought about this too. I was convinced my next camera would be using the new panchromatic filters and pattern. I was willing to but a Kodak digital camera if they didn't license it to anyone. Sadly, I still can't find any info about whether or not this tech is in any consumer cameras yet. It seemed like such a great breakthrough because low light pictures are so hard to take -either the flash isn't strong enough (or it's too strong and you get redeye, etc.) or you just get blurry pics because your shutter speed has to be so slow.
The "You Don't Know Jack" series of quiz-show type games everyone loves and it's two player and it'll work great hooked up to your tv. You can just share a single keyboard to buzz in your answer.
Here's the pudding from zdnet's gallery. Looks great to me and I can't wait to get a camera with this technology. I just bought a new camera and I'm almost sorry I did now.
Exactly, I HATE that phrase they always use. They shake their finger at you and say, "Now, now. Remember to follow safe browsing practices!" What the hell. Like you said, avoid all search engines and stick to your bookmarks. Even then, don't you dare click on a link you never went to before even if it's on one of your "safe browsing" sites. It's just their way to remove their blame if you hit upon a site that has the exploit. I hate it. Grrrrrr.
Newer distros not great for older hardware?

I have a Dell PowerEdge 6450 which I tried to load Fedora Core 4 and SuSe 10 on. They failed to install because I think they don't support the PowerEdge 2/DC RAID controller card anymore and there was a blog I found where I could roll my own kernel with it in there. I went with CentOS 3.6 (RedHat EL 3) because it uses 2.4 with all the right modules or whatever built-in. My point is that I was just thinking about how the newer distros are usually NOT friendly to older hardware because they seem to drop off support for older hardware as they support the newer stuff. Like when I couldn't get Knoppix to boot and I realized I had to feed it the "nodma" option. It's just a PITA to struggle with stuff like this in LInux when you just know Windows would find the hardware and use it. Now, I'll probably get flamed and be told I just don't know what I'm doing and I can gather up all the right kernel loadable modules or roll my own kernel, etc. But, my simple point is that it's getting harder to get the newest distros to "just work" on older hardware.
I've always referred to this excellent pcvsconsole table of PC video card specs for a very concise overview of the specs and performance of the various video cards. It really is worth a look if you want to see how much more horsepower is in the newer cards as compared to the older ones.
The Gamepark 32 is already a fantastic little portable gaming device and you don't have to worry about unauthorized uses of SDKs and whatnot -it's all open!
They often use the term Hong Kong or "HK" DVDs when referring to pirate Anime. Is most of the pirate Anime really made in Hong Kong and isn't that were the highest concentration of SARS cases in the world is currently? It might make some people think twice about getting some cheap Anime that was hot off some DVD press in Hong Kong? Maybe, maybe not?
All these posts about mirror sites and P2P links to the source code/program should give up and realize the inevitable - WASTE is illegal to have because Nullsoft says it was an unauthorized release. So, what needs to be done is what happened with gnutella after it was released and subsequently pulled. In the absence of the gnutella source code, the protocol was reverse engineered and new apps with their own source code were released and those people could GPL their code if they wanted to! All we the OS community need is a good idea and we should thank Justin for that! Just make your own program called WASTED or WASTENET or whatever and have it do the same kinds of things WASTE did, then GPL THAT of your own accord and let the fun begin (again)!
