Anyone know of any major projects where NetBSD has been deployed and has been known to provide benefits far and beyond what can be gained from using more "traditional" operating systems?
So it seems like it's the Server SKU that is going to be 64-bit only, and not the client OS:
UPDATE | Microsoft's Alex Heaton has clarified the comment of Bill Laing, on which this story is based. "Bill Laing, a General Manager in the Microsoft Windows Server Division, has been quoted as saying that Windows Server 2008 will be the last 32-bit operating system. Bill is a server guy and indeed Windows Server 2008 is the last 32-bit server operating system - all future operating systems for server hardware from Microsoft beyond Windows Server 2008 will be 64-bit," Heaton said.
"A few folks took Bill's comments on Windows Server and applied them to Windows Client deriving that Windows Vista would be the last 32-bit operating system. That is an incorrect extension. While Windows Vista includes both 32-bit and 64-bit and there is a growing community of drivers for 64-bit Windows Vista we have not decided when Windows Client will follow Windows Server and become 64-bit only."
Taking this further, you don't need *Microsoft* to sign the drivers, you can sign it yourself if you'd like (using authenticode).
They just need it to be *signed* for 64-bit. Of course, if you'd like your hardware to be "logo'd" for Windows Vista (to use the label), you need to go through Microsoft. Here's the Windows Logo Program link
Well, I am a Microsoft employee, but far from disgruntled:) Like you, I am a new grad, and honestly, I have no reason to complain as far as the salary or the perks go. It could be much much worse than this. Good luck at wherever you chose to go instead!
That's hotter than the interior of our sun, which is only 15 million degrees F
By 133 times hotter - jeez, atleast put "way hotter" somewhere in there.
so how much is the going rate for the banner slot (top of the page) on slashdot? and for that matter, other popular sites? how much cnn front page time can 90 million get you?
I haven't RTFA but do they mention how they do it? Is it just a simple RSS aggregator with a few thousand feeds and then it filters the results? Something like that can be done in a day.
Another blood sucking RSS utility written by me: cribot.com (cut it some slack, this was done in a day or two.
You said it dude, Triton sucks to say the least - it's bloated and it's unstable (well, it's beta - I guess I should expect that). But I couldn't believe that AOL would remove the old version till they stabilized and released the new one. What the heck.
Site overloaded. Either this has been linked from somewhere with heavy traffic, or you're experimenting with a clever script to try and mess with the pictures. Come back later, or stop it.
you're forgetting that Mac programmers have an incentive to make their software work on Windows (more than 90% user base) whereas programmers on the MS campus don't place pleasing 2% (or less) of the market on the top of their priority list. Hey, I'm not trying to justify anything - just pointing out the facts.

use Event Tracing For Windows.
Mod Parent Up! I'm on the beta program as well, and this thing rocks. Easy as it can be.

Dude, Thailand and India are two different countries!

Hmm, so you were hoping to use 32-bit drivers on a 64-bit OS? You shouldn't even be here. Go home.

Way to make me feel dumb.
ICM gold before age 13, SAT math score of 760 at age 8, seriously, what the hell.
I wonder if he ever appeared for the Putname exams.
i am sure we can eventually come up with a smarted way to eliminate/control spam. outright banning of any personal email servers is just ridiculous.
before we know it, they would start banning sending snail mail, sending faxes, using phones - all in the name of quality control and eliminating spam.
DO NOT click the link - it's not work safe!!!
I managed to get the .avi and .wav files off the server before it blew up/melted.

Did the company's lawyers subpoena the information on the laptop? If they did, then yes, it would be a crime to delete those files.

That reminds me, has anyone else heard of Foldera? They are not public yet, but it does sound pretty cool.

This dude needs to borrow a clue from his logs.
