> Hardly any games continue to sell after more than 2 years on the market.
That's why Diablo 2 + LOD sold for 10 years. It is called "polish" and good design + gameplay. (Plus free patches that helped drive end-game content.)
Almost everyone tends to forget Gabe's quote: "You can ship a bad game on time and no one will remember it shipped on time. You can ship a good game late and almost no one will remember it was late."
The "industry" is too focused on Tech. The indies don't have tech to use as a crutch they are forced to innovate gameplay. i.e. Path of Exile happens to have both.
I work at a Fortune 50 company. Yes, 50, not 500. Currently researching Big Data on the GPU using Linux + CUDA + nVidia's nSight + GTX Titan. I'm in OSX, Linux, Win8 in that order. The other devs use command line + vim + git. The OPS guys use OpenBSD on the servers.
There is a surprisingly amount of people using Linux. Heck most of the contractors we have are using VirtualBox + Linux (Ubuntu)
You're talking out of your ass making assumptions. Unix, wether it be Linux or BSD variation, is getting more and more popular.
> There is no solid proof either way though Incorrect. You'll get your proof after death when you realize your consciousness _knows_ The Source.
As a mystic whether you believe (or not) is completely IRRELEVANT. The ONLY thing that matters:
Are you able to treat others with Respect for a different perspective?
The fact of the matter is that both Atheism and Theism are based on ignorance; both ONLY have belief(s) about The Source; they lack _knowledge_. Arguing over which one is "correct" or who has more faith is spiritual immaturity. Parents don't chastise their children for their beliefs. Only assholes belittle others for their beliefs. Who cares what a person believes if their behavior shows they are able to treat people humanely?
> Gnostic Atheist That is total oxymoron of terms. Either you have knowledge or you don't. There is no inbetween.
In 10 years mankind will be allowed to know that We are not alone, In 70 years Judaism, Christianity, Islam will be united

> One could think of a number of experiments to test this Agreed.
I can shed some light on this. I've had a number of OBEs naturally occurring from 2003 onwards. In 2008 I decided to do a personal experiment because I couldn't find an answer (from anyone I knew) to an important question (and it not like you can just ask anyone):
Just _how_ close can one get to the proper natural Out-of-Body experience if they use drugs?
After my first and last experiment in this endeavor, and after being chastised from Higher Self for fracturing my Etheric Body, I had my answer:
Pretty darn close it turns out. However, it is NOT worth it.
There are subtle differences but it is almost ineffable to describe them. If I could summarize, in general, it would be this:
* The natural method is 100% harder. * The natural method opens up WAY more potentials for exploring every nook, cranny, of the Universes, and is WAY more rewarding! * The drug method is more "controlled" * The drug method is very limited. * The drug method has negative consequences & after-effects.
Like anything it takes practise to master. Part of the "problem" / challenge is that it takes years before one can make any progress.
Wow. 10% that high!? That is amazing! I'm _really_ curious to see what works for you. Have you tried:
* Light & Sound Machines? * Binaural beats ? * Any of Robert Monroe's Hemi-Sync meditation music? * Which Lucid Dreaming techniques are you most successful with? * Is your meditation active or passive? * Are you familiar with any of Robert Bruce's work? * Any daily / nightly activities you do (or don't do) that tend to help?
> There is nothing that goes out of the body during an OBE. Incorrect.
> What do you mean by "real thing?" Unless you have actually had an OBE (or NDE) you don't have a frame of reference to understand the shift in consciousness.
That is unknown claim. We need a _valid_ frame of reference to compare against. It would be _very_ interesting to find out how this simulated one compares to the real thing by people who have had BOTH.
I'm hoping they open their research up to the general public. I've had a few real OBE's and would love to have first-hand experience & knowledge of just how close it is to the real thing.
Disagree 100%. I've played Torchlight 2, Path of Exile, and Borderlands 2. IMO the FREE Path of Exile is by far away the true spiritual successor to Diablo 2. The only Pay-To-Win they have is that you can buy, colorize, and rename your stash tabs which is a god-send compared to the crappy 4 tabs D3 offers.
Diablo 3 is an epic failure for one reason: itemization. Precisely, the total lack of it. One of the things that made D2 so great was the multiple tier economies: * chipped gems, * pgems * set items * runes * runewords * keys * torches * anni * Rares
No matter where your wealth was, you could always "upgrade" to the next tier of wealth given enough time. Even a shitty Hammerdin with crap gear could MF / farm.
Diablo 3 threw all the great things right out the window and made a game for boobs & noobs = BORING. In contradistinction the Path of Exile skill tree is HUGE -- there are a large number of variety builds built around single items (just like D2) compared to the few cookie-cutter D3 builds offers.
> I personally would prefer to have been born in a world without any transitory suffering, but I'm not entirely sure such a perfect world is actually logically possible.
It is but then you wouldn't have Free Will. As Neo said in The Matrix: "The problem is Choice."
After you cross over (after death) you will find your Peace but you will also notice that you "lost" your Free Will because you are in tune with Divine Will.
That's part of the "charm" that makes Earth special. We are given the gift of Free Will -- to use or to (sadly) abuse.
> Does he want children to starve to death because he loves them? So what are you doing to feed them? If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem.
What part of Free Will do you not understand? Or do you just bitch about everyone's else Free Will when they obviously lack compassion for their fellow brothers and sisters. Why are you unable to respect another person's Free Will?
When your child breaks your rules you still love them inspite of the pain and suffering they bring upon themselves. Humans are akin to spiritual children.
> or ate a gdamn piece of fruit he arbitrarily decided they couldn't -- because I'm too blind to understand the Allegorical and Spiritual nature of the Bible and keep falling for the absurd literal meaning..
FTFY. All your ranting is summarized above.
Even Yeshua/Jesus said in Luke 9:60: 'Jesus told him, "Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead! '
Only an idiot: a) tries to anthropomorphize "God", b) reads an allegorical text in a literal fashion.
As Rabbi Simeon said:
"If a man looks upon the Torah as merely a book presenting narratives and everyday matters, alas for him! Such a torah, one treating with everyday concerns, and indeed a more excellent one, we too, even we, could compile. More than that, in the possession of the rulers of the world there are books of even greater merit, and these we could emulate if we wished to compile some such torah. But the Torah, in all of its words, holds supernal truths and sublime secrets."
"Thus the tales related in the Torah are simply her outer garments, and woe to the man who regards that outer garb as the Torah itself, for such a man will be deprived of portion in the next world.
and Theologians Moses Maimonedes says the same thing:
"Every time that you find in our books a tale the reality of which seems impossible, a story which is repugnant to both reason and common sense, then be sure that the tale contains a profound allegory veiling a deeply mysterious truth; and the greater the absurdity of the letter, the deeper the wisdom of the spirit"
> For his own glory he condemns billions to eternal torment [Citation Chapter/Verse]
> drowns millions of innocent beasts and thousands of children *sigh* Why are you hung up on the absurdity of the literal interpretation. You do realize what water symbolizes right?
The Bible was _intentionaly_ written to contain absurdities so you would stop being a stupid gentile and start the process of opening your mind instead of being delusional in thinking "you already know." The beginning of wisdom _begins_ when you realize You Don't Know.
> restricts the normal expression of the sexual function 1. Define "normal" 2. [Citation Chapter/Verse] 3. You do realize _men_ wrote the Bible right?
> That God does what he wants, when he wants, without even an attempt at self-justification, and all for what reason? In contradistinction to the human that attempts to judge "god" on what he "thinks" an infinite Source "should" be or not be doing right?
Get over your arrogance.
Your consciousness is like that of a worm trying to understand why the human is tilling to soil to grow crops. You don't have a valid frame of reference to judge an infinite Consciousness. After you die you will realize your human stupidity.

In 10 years mankind will have proof we are not alone. We'll eventually discover quantum communication which will allow us to communicate to civilizations in other galaxies. Scientists will eventually discover white holes (such as the one at the center of our galaxy) and see how energy is recycled between black holes and white holes, discover the 6 fundamental forces, and learn how to use ZPE; the biggest breakthrough will be when we will finally realize Technology is a Mental Crutch that distracts us from our innate abilities and should be used to augment them, not replace them.
One day when you are old you will wonder "How the hell did the world change and why was I so blind to it?"
Meanwhile keep sticking your head in the sand...
Things are going to get a helluva lot worse before they get better. But they WILL get better. Consciousness is evolving with or without you.
> The upcoming consoles, PS4 and XB1, seem quite boring
FTFY.
I already have a GTX Titan + 512 GB SSD + 16 GB RAM. I'm not a hardcore gamer - just someone who likes to explore rendering algorithms. Xbone or PS4 are basically a 2 year old PC. *yawn*.
Total nonsense and pessimistic based on zero evidence.
People are slowly starting to wake up -- they are getting tired of the constant fighting, and corporations profiting at the expense of people's lives. Not enough people care (yet) but things are changing. You'll have your proof in about 10 years...
And in plain English?
When a CPU / GPU / memory runs at a _fixed_ frequency (due to a clock) the term over-clocking is slang and kinda makes sense.
What other term would you use?
Engines typically don't function when over revving.

Science by _definition_ is amoral.
Only scienctists have the obligation to not only ask "_Can_ we do this?" but also "_Should_ we do this?"
And proof of consciousness is what again?
grammar fix: ... does not have morals ...
An ideology / process by definition does not morals, aka amoral. Only scientists are moral.
Science doesn't ask "Can we build nukes?" nor "Should we build nukes?" only _scientists_.

I'm not the parent but I agree with your analysis.

I have been unable to personally confirm the Etheric layer it but here is a pic that I generally agree with to help put things into perspective:
