Hear hear!!
Second that! I listened to RMS in india (the recording, not me...but that would have been cool), and The Man is brilliant. It is also funny, especially the idiots that doesn't get it...lol, anyhow, here is a link I found with the speech in ogg.
I would not by one!! If it is a 3G telephone it's even worse!! People who work in the industri (Ericsson, Nokia etc) should really be released from the NDA they signed(I did sign as well...) if they have information regarding the public health. The information I got regarding the effects of these frequencies was informal, but if half of it was true...I would really not put the transmitter inside my head!! Do you know how much effect (wattwise) a telephone (3G) peaks at?? I will not break the NDA by posting this link. When putting a microwave transmitter (2GHz) inside the head you seriously are pushing your luck!!
One of the most intelligent guys I ever met is in a wheelchair getting worse by the year after being subjected to MASSIVE EM-fields when he was installing radars. He was the magnetron specialist(still is I suppose). The effect those babies could produce....They melted the snow in the radar direction....and there he was calibrating and testing...needless to say, he is not very healty...
I would never waste my time on proprietary software. I have found bugs/exploits in commersial stuff (incl OS's) but never reported anything. They make money off the stuff, keep it closed sourced....Nope, wont help them. Sooner or later the bugs/exploits gets discoverd by malicious ppl, and someone (who didn't use OSS) get their balls busted. If you gets hurt in the process, you should not blame me. Blame the idiots using using the stuff!!(picture me calling the bank and whine about the choice of their SW:)
Anyhow, I consider me a part of the OSS movement and will not aid the greedy (but mostly stupid) closed source guys.
Read it youself here(official) information. Dont forget that this is the official, public info!!

Why start ridicule people who are "conspiracists" and think people in power would do anything to stay in power (or get more)? Have you guys forgotten ww2? Ever heard of romania? Russia? Big centralized power structures tend to develop in the same way over and over again. Now we (europeans) have Schengen. Do some google'ing, and you'll find stuff like this or this. You could proberbly find even better stuff, I dont spend to much time on this issues myself(though maybe I should). I do think I know that these structures of unlimited power, and little to none opennes(remember that someone have to have pushed that agenda you know. Why would anyone do that? Why the secrecy??) are dangerous.
Read some history books.
This does not change the fact that the Swedes are dumbasses.
I really dont like when people generalize. Saying that (in general) swedes are dumbasses is kind of..dunno..... You can say swedes are (in general, ie the majority) rasist, cowardly (viking rioting small villages, ww2 etc) or something more specific, thats ok. Thats your viewpoint, but calling them dumbasses doesnt give us any information as to what you mean. Dumbasses is such a broad term. Is it only in this context? i.e they wont allow cookies, therefore they are dumbasses! ??
One of the most important things to be able to do, is saving in word format. However the trail d/l page says "Saving to Microsoft Word and RTF is disabled. Opening such files is possible, well...since I really cant pay money for something I cant test, I woun't even d/l the trail. To be fair, I've heard it's great stuff.
Ahrrgh, analogies....
Why o why does everybody and their grandma have to resort to analogies, btw should it be a bicycle or lyxury car(Linus said car...)? Suppose that is depending of what got stolen by whom(ref to SCO analogy).
I d/l an run it, but it looks horrible. Is there not antialias support built in? I am using mozilla with antialias and I cant go back on that!! Tell me that I am stupid and just have to check a box saying "antialias" some where..
This is starting to get out of hand!
I dont live in US(god bless that nation), but I am afraid that these "IP properties" enforcements is going to far. I use the term "IP properties in general though I shouldn't, but you know what I mean. Will patents and court decision made in US affect me in europe? Will I have to move to some obscure island where no enforcment of US interests exist?
Do you mean the jabber client named Jabber at jabber.com? Jabber Messenger is supported on Windows 98 2nd Edition, ME, 2000, and XP.
Is that a java app? Then why is it restricted to M$ OS's? Thats odd.
WOWIE ZOWIE!
Thats an informative link.Thanks. I have slept less 5 hours the last 2 earth spins, so I am not myself, however, I dont see any referenses to the speed of the satellites in question? I am thinking two dimensional here, I am to tired to do ascii art here:( But everything may clear up after I have had some sleep. Zzzzz This is how/. should be. Not some lame trolling by kids.
Great answer!
I'll spend some hours trying to find some reference (google) to the "time drifting" on satellites, and try to find how much that actually is, ie how much the clocks are actually beeing compensated.
Wish me good luck (or if anyone have a link..).
It's early (or late..)for me but this is not what I read: from the metaresearch link:
2. What relativistic effects on GPS atomic clocks might be seen?
General Relativity (GR) predicts that clocks in a stronger gravitational field will tick at a slower rate. Special Relativity (SR) predicts that moving clocks will appear to tick slower than non-moving ones. Remarkably, these two effects cancel each other for clocks located at sea level anywhere on Earth. So if a hypothetical clock at Earthâ(TM)s north or south pole is used as a reference, a clock at Earthâ(TM)s equator would tick slower because of its relative speed due to Earthâ(TM)s spin, but faster because of its greater distance from Earthâ(TM)s center of mass due to the flattening of the Earth. Because Earthâ(TM)s spin rate determines its shape, these two effects are not independent, and it is therefore not entirely coincidental that the effects exactly cancel. The cancellation is not general, however. Clocks at any altitude above sea level do tick faster than clocks at sea level; and clocks on rocket sleds do tick slower than stationary clocks.
For GPS satellites, GR predicts that the atomic clocks at GPS orbital altitudes will tick faster by about 45,900 ns/day because they are in a weaker gravitational field than atomic clocks on Earth's surface. Special Relativity (SR) predicts that atomic clocks moving at GPS orbital speeds will tick slower by about 7,200 ns/day than stationary ground clocks. Rather than have clocks with such large rate differences, the satellite clocks are reset in rate before launch to compensate for these predicted effects. In practice, simply changing the international definition of the number of atomic transitions that constitute a one-second interval accomplishes this goal. Therefore, we observe the clocks running at their offset rates before launch. Then we observe the clocks running after launch and compare their rates with the predictions of relativity, both GR and SR combined. If the predictions are right, we should see the clocks run again at nearly the same rates as ground clocks, despite using an offset definition for the length of one second.
We note that this post-launch rate comparison is independent of frame or observer considerations. Since the ground tracks repeat day after day, the distance from satellite to ground remains essentially unchanged. Yet, any rate difference between satellite and ground clocks continues to build a larger and larger time reading difference as the days go by. Therefore, no confusion can arise due to the satellite clock being located some distance away from the ground clock when we compare their time readings. One only needs to wait long enough and the time difference due to a rate discrepancy will eventually exceed any imaginable error source or ambiguity in such comparisons.
Different effects cancel eachother? Is this what I read. And (this is what I read some where else) we wouldnt do anything different if it we never had GR or SR.
I belive SCO could very well use this technique to demonstrate what part of their code is in Linux.
I liked the idea (anonymous coder with access to source can use this technic)in the article.
The question is, can they? Would they be in trouble?
It would be nice if one could conclude where the said code was, without the sources...but it cant be done:(, what I did was checking for comments that are dupes within the linux kernel tree,(earlier post), since the information that the comments were dupes in linux/sco tree. I was thinking that if the alleged dupes had bsd origin, that might be the code in question. So comparing comments in Linux and BSD might be a good idea, or maybe not?
I tried to get an slashdot account on slashdot with fairly pro-M$ posts, I had great karma.
