  4. No, I'm saying power usage increase over 120 watt with the 95 watt TDP CPU and less than 100 watt with the 140 watt TDP CPU.

And that the 95 watt TDP CPU system use more power during load than the 140 watt TDP CPU system.

What you claim is something you made up yourself.

  5. Unfortunately, it seem as if these 6-core and 4-core Ryzen 5 CPUs are only going to be eight-core Ryzen 7 CPUs with cores disabled in both compute-complexes.

    According to what? TDP numbers?
I would hope the 4 core was just one CCX.
For 6 core I don't know if I think 3+3 or 4+2 is better, for gaming I'd take 4+2 and then the +2 could be used for other threads.
The split cache isn't 100% useless. Assuming the same bandwidth to it (not a fact or even thing I think) having just half the cores use it could improve performance to it, the very weak connectivity between them however is an issue. In reality the latency within the same CCX is lower than over at Intel but between all cores on average is worse and to the second CCX from the first and viceversa is even worse.

Seem like I should had read your whole comment .. ;D

The R5 1600X and 1600 are going to have one core disabled per compute-complex (CCX): 3+3. This was expected.

Too bad. Still 16 MB of L3 cache or disabled so one get the worst of everything? :D

However, surprisingly, AMD has told Anandtech and Ars Technica that the R5 1500X and likely also the R5 1400 are going to have two cores disabled per CCX: giving it a 2+2 config.

    Ok.
I wonder if that's why they went with Overwatch which only use 2 cores:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
It's still a good processor for the price though. For many tasks due to having the 6 cores it will be more powerful than the competing i5 7600K. VS an overclocked one it will likely be a bit slower in some games of today, non-overclocked maybe not / not much, but it still have those extra cores for background tasks and streaming and possibly future advantage. Windows 10 game mode will also dedicate some cores for gaming and prevent threads from moving around so that will bring some more performance.

and there is an interconnect between the CCX'es L3 caches which while being slower than a single shared L3 cache is somewhat faster than going to main memory

I read before that it was on the same bus as the PCI-express lanes and the DDR4 RAM. Correct or not?
I've also read it ran half speed of the RAM speed (in clock?), but it seem weird that the bus / cache would vary speed with what RAM one use. However I've seen different L3 latency test numbers in different memory configurations, thought that could be the benchmark software which happen to access some regular RAM too I suppose.

This means that the 1500X and 1400 are going to be slower on many workloads than on a hypothetical Zen CPU with one single four-core CCX.

Yeah. I would prefer that and it would feel better if they just made 1 CCX chips for that purpose .. ... then again maybe they let people unlock functional cores?! ;D (but fuck up overclocking when doing so? ;D .. reason to wait? ;D)

It is believed that this bottleneck is the reason behind relatively low Ryzen 1800X/1700X/1700 scores in many games - compared to Intel (even when clock speed and IPC have been taken into account).

Both cache and memory performance is slight worse. It still have just 2 AGUs / core just like FX before it whereas Intel have 4, I don't know how much that matter or affect things (It also only capable of 2 128 bit FMAC vs Intel 2 256 bit FMAC and hence is inferior there too, I don't know how much that matter. To me it would make sense if software which relied heavily on floating-point performance used the GPU instead (though high precision performance on consumer GPUs are most often much slower than single-precision so maybe they consumer graphics cards isn't better there than an Intel HEDT/Xeon processor anyway?) but I also assum

  6. Worth noticing is that the 95 watt Ryzen 7 1700X and 1800X increase the power-demands more when going from idle to fully loaded than the 140 watt i7 6900K as well as the whole platform using slightly more power for the whole system:
    http://www.sweclockers.com/tes...
So take the TDP values with some salt. It doesn't tell the whole story. Neither have they done for AMD vs Nvidia graphics cards I've heard claimed but there with the advantage for AMD.

Ryzen 7 1700X and 1800X idle whole system at the wall: 45 watt
    i7 6900K idle whole system: 60 watt.

    1700X blender & x264 benchmark: 155 & 160 watt.
    1800X blender & x264 benchmark: 165 & 170 watt
    i7 6900K blender & x264 benchmark: 150 & 150 watt.
That's still for the full system.
    i7 6900K Intel Ark says 140 watt TDP: https://ark.intel.com/sv/produ...

    i7 6950X: 60/145/170 watt idle, blender, x264 (10 core also 140 watt.)

Which mean lower wages which mean lower cost for services. And they can still tax what they want.

I assume the idea with the UK max be to have lower taxes than the EU and hence compete that way.

We should all join a race for the lowest taxes and end all governments.

  12. Guess stupidity and ignorance is strong in every community then.

So follows that their contribution to yours isn't even bad because theirs wasn't and as such it's no problem whatsoever that it's totally destroying your and turning it into.. well.. equality of value with all other shit I guess :D

  13. I'm not saying all bad things.
Bunch of ideas about freedom and technological progress and so on come from the US.

However climate-change deniers, religion and anti-vaccination seem to live strong among at-least part of the population.

  14. The US doesn't care much for energy preservation, the environment and so on.
It's not seen as a problem and a conspiracy in Europe by normal people and political leaders.

How is this trolling and flamebaiting?

Where from come the non-African witch-doctor vaccine skeptics?
Who have the climate-change "denying" president? The same party?
Who have leaders who claim that climate-change and trying to adjust for the environment is a work of the Chinese to hold the US back?
Who have a problem agreeing to environmental agreements?
    Which nation do fracking?
Which nation use a lot of fossil fuel and consume a lot of goods with a wast environmental impact?

I'm from Sweden. Sweden is progressive way beyond stupid but our leaders would basically agree to anything and further than anyone else. The US isn't like that. The US rather hold back. At-least if it relate to climate change, fossil fuel and consumption.

Arguments like OMG THE NEW LIGHT-BULBS ARE TERRIBLE!! I'LL USE THE OLD ONES! seem to live strong in the US. Maybe you could find someone who are very serious into photography or marketing or optics who would agree in Sweden but any normal person wouldn't and would be just fine and accept with the idea that they should use light-bulbs which use less power instead.

EU as a whole is likely more progressive / faster moving than the US on this. For trade and economics maybe they have been more cautious I don't know, by now the US has become more protectionist too so.

I've watch this video on YouTube where some guy is so proud of how he's using his old computers still and aren't wasting them.. He run an old computer with screen AS A CLOCK. Yay! Very power-efficient! "At-least it doesn't go to the dump", yeah, but it will eventually regardless, and it could be recycled in whatever case anyhow. Another machine for Shoutcast, one for the door bell because he like using the music track he likes rather than something generic. I guess a single raspberry pi could do it all with less of an environmental impact. Now sure maybe he enjoy doing this and that I can't argue with but I can argue with the concept of "OMG I'M SO MUCH BETTER THAN THOSE WHO THROW AWAY OLD FUNCTIONAL COMPUTERS!"
Also he argue that the humans living before them didn't cared and did whatever they wanted to the environment so he's got the right to do so too. Great! Much sympathy and much trying. Personally every time I see stone plates in a building or on a walk-way and so on I feel it's disturbing because somewhere those has been taken away and it has left a scar which will last for so very long time / the period of creating new mountains is pretty long =P. On the other hand that may not make much sense at all because we could just mine it from under ground and maybe aren't really risking running out of it ..

  17. how did you get this ad. ive yet to see even one. I've seen a hell of a lot of whining about ads but no actual ads :S
Maybe my upgrade from win7 broke it somehow

I wanted to see the credibility of this claim so I went to the start menu and expected the large wide one but got a smaller one and saw no ad there, scrolled through the list but nothing obvious.
So I wanted to take a screenshot of it and opened it again and there it was!

If I click the start-menu now then it's not there:
    http://pasteboard.co/IZVz5bOXm...
So it can't always be there and I guess then that it wasn't there the first time when I didn't see it.

The start menu is complete shit for all I care with way to much of their own stuff and so many entries and then the folders for other companies and if it listed my 130-140 currently installed Steam titles ... yeah .. I don't really use it, I just search, which is what I would had done in OS X too. Speaking of which I've installed some more powerful process manager from Microsoft and some other thing and I don't even know where to put them in Windows. It may just be exe-files, in this case also a "compiled html help file" whatever file extensions that has, I don't know where to store those in Windows, should they be in C:\Windows and I just have to live with any mess there or is there some user installed directory too? In the DOS days one could change the paths it searched for commands right? So I assume maybe one could do some dir for them onself somewhere?

  18. On the other hand I don't have a problem paying the Internet cost of a Windows license of $35-40 either.
Even if it list ONE GAME ENTRY IN THE START MENU!!

However I don't know the origin of those copies, if they are just "stolen" by people who get an unlimited amount from universities or something such then I don't see what that contributes. It's Microsoft who deserves the money and I don't want to support trading of stolen property / paying people for abuse / whatever. If they are just licenses bought in a cheaper country then I'm ok with it because at-least the money go towards Microsoft.

  19. Did you get Windows 10 for free?

    Yes.
I even reinstalled it during the upgrade period when anyone could install it without having paid shit or running a cracked copy simply downloaded from Microsoft with no key whatsoever, something which AFAIK can still be done as long as you "need" the disability features. As for whatever Microsoft cared about that or already viewed my copy as "activated"... That I don't know. I sure as fuck haven't paid for it though and they don't message me anything about it.

Thus endeth the lesson on the difference between ad-supported software and software you pay real money for.

Yeah. They wish. Or maybe they are just happy enough that I actually use it nowadays.
The reason I use it is games and I've bought 1000+ so at-least I cover what I use and much more there.

  20. If anyone launched a social media platform with freedom of speech and as much anonymity/privacy as you wanted then I'd definitely would want to use it but for me to only use it everyone else would have to use it too.

Facebook and Twitter of today is complete shit.. So an alternative is very much welcome but I doubt we'll get one because where would you run such a platform and how would our assholes of governments allow that?

  21. Here's my start menu: .. oh shit! Now I see the ad!!
    http://pasteboard.co/ISGO7FKYs...

I saw non at first.. Hardly too bad .. But ok.

I haven't got any Bing! ad through the toolbar. I've got some suggestion about changing to Edge I think but that's kinda expected. No other ads at the toolbar.

I have had no ads on the lock-screen either.

I haven't noticed any OneDrive advertisement from the file explorer and I wouldn't even consider it a .. unrelated ad so to say because it's part of Windows and what Microsoft offer and related and built into the operating-system, it's not like it's for someone elseÂs unrelated product even if I saw it.

So yeah.. I've got one single line in my start menu suggesting a game. Horrible indeed ..

Of course Chrome is also a vehicle for ads. So is Google. So is Facebook. I don't use Instagram, SnapChat, Kik, WhatsApp or haven't bothered actually looking for ads on Twitter but I assume those too are vehicles for ads. That's how they earn money.

Maybe I should be surprised Valve is trying to sell products through Steam too?! Oh the horrors! All the ads!! (To be fair the "just launched the application" ad is kinda disturbing.)
