that's not entirely true. they were about to get beaten with a legal baseball bat, then the Bush administration got in, and microsoft asked bush to drop the case and he did, IIRC.
I think that's being worked on as we speak the xserver at freedesktop.org is a playground for experimental features like those. in fact, a lot of x.org features come from there.
I wouldnt mind seing real transparency via the xdamage extension
why couldnt they seriously pick someone better than John Woo to do this?
because I can imagine it now, it'll be her in a space acadamy doing shit, with the occasional shower scene, sex scene, etc like in most random movies (though that wouldnt be that bad:P but I prefer samus the bounty hunter over samus the slut) and the occasional reference to metroid
from what it sounds like, this is going to be about the games as much as hitler was for civil rights.
however, if it proves to be better than the summary, then I'll be happy.
with the right people, the metroid series could EASILY be made into a good movie. because it's more realistic and more on the lines of a lot of scifi movies out there.
What would have made it perfect is if the guys behind Alien got ahold of it, then we would have seen some bad ass shit, and that would have been a respectful thing to do seeing as the creator of metroid was a fan of Alien (also was part of the inspiration behind the metroid games)
I experimented with this a bit and was pleased with the results.. I was also thinking exactly what the article states, but, it can be a bitch via 56k and various apps, for games and misc stuff, it can work great, for system apps and developer and server stuff, this doesnt work that well
but for a desktop, it could work, and you can even download source packages and click the icon, they compile, voila, running program (at least in ROX)
I still dont like th feel of the Rox desktop though, it's still kinda iffy
is the fact that many people have different ideas of "easy"
easy as in developer easy? easy as in advanced windows user easy, gamer easy? joe average easy? etc...
the first one is the reason I think it'll be some time before linux gets any share in the desktop field. because developer easy is sadly where most developers know how to go, they have trouble picturing anyone who isnt as smart as them, etc.
Ya gotta some times think that if you're making a product for the desktop, you gotta think as if you have the stupidest person in the world using your product, that way, it'll end up being more user friendly in the end.
speaking of kmart and sco... kmart's price checkers use embedded sco unix, wonder how long until sco sues them
but yeah, it's good to see mandrake getting out of the pits, as much as people hate them, they're the gateway to linux for the average user. redhat's the gateway for the server admin, etc.
it's these people who will try everything to take the internet as it is now, and turn it into another version of cable television. the president of verisign tried this, he even stated that the internet shouldnt be used for websites, but for multimedia companies (wonder who had their hands in his pants)
well if that ever happens, we have the internet 2 to look forward to.
part of the reason the earth is still active is due to volcanic forces...
only way to terraform a planet and to keep it running is to have a stable atmosphere and magnetic field.. mars lacks both of these, why? no volcanic activity, the core is probably a dead weight.
if there was any water or life, it was long ago.
We're around because earth still has the elements that make the inside of it hot, and the core is still spinning, thus creating a magnetic field. thus less cosmic radiation, thus making a stable atmosphere. etc
the terraforming would only work for a while.. but unless they can jump start the volcanic activity on mars, no magnetic field equals a desert planet.
a big tax write off for allen.. of course, not everyone in the evil empire is necessarily evil....
but still... might be two things, he might be interested in that stuff, and it will give him a nice tax write off.
Though if I were as rich as these guys, I'd be donating money out whenever I could, regardless of tax, like Carnegie did, he donated a lot of money, and when he died.. he had his entire fortune donated and spread around.
most windows firewall progs just block icmp packets and do trivial crap.
packet filtering and iptables allows a lot more to be done.. since it's on the kernel level.
in windows.. even though the firewall blocks ports... the system it's on is still vunerable to crap, and since the windows API is vulnerable to many things.. so is most software for windows.
surprised it didnt say " with only a touch screen interface, left wide open for the amusement of the students at the most wired university in the U.S. Interestingly, Diebold is one of the leading manufacturers of failing software and hardware, next to microsoft."
seriously, why does anyone even uses diebold is beyond me.. they have a real bad track record with stability and security, on top of that.. with windows XP? I wouldnt trust that crap with my bank info, at all.
my main issue with bush is that he seems to magically pull money out from nowhere.
throws a buncha money at Iraq, throws a bunch of money into the military, thros a buncha money into organizations devoted to give companies more control over the consumer, more money towards homeland security and the FBI, etc. There are many others as well I dont feel like listing...
For a wishy washy economy at the moment, we sure have a lot of money to throw around.
I take older machines, turn them into development stations or rebuilds or servers for my own whims.
I use my computers until they're useless in almost every way.
did anyone imagine you being behind a giant turret with heavy metal music playing shooting asteroids at planets?
I think this is a funny one.
someone's trying to talk from a virus writer's POV
that's not entirely true.

mmmyesss.
Microsoft has been screaming that for years, but they're still around unfortunately.

put spammers on the blacklist, and sell lists to them! that way they'll spam terrorists and themselves out of existance!
kill two birds with one stone, using their own methods!
perfect plan...mmmmyes..
"I've put up my gallery of images from Phillyclassic 5, taken on Saturday, March 20th"
and slashdot took down your gallery on Sunday, March 21st.
man, if all goes well, I could start a new computer project
:/
I plan on making a little computer out of something.. not saying what because I dont want someone taking my idea

well, maybe not.. slashdot picks on tom's hardware too much.
