  1. But can you look anywhere on the screen? on MIT Developed A Movie Screen That Brings Glasses-Free 3D To All Seats (techcrunch.com) · · Score: 4, Insightful

This is a fundamental problem I have with 3D films. The focal point is always where the director decided it should be so if you try to look at something off to the side of the screen, the 3D illusion falls apart.

  2. Why is government the answer? on Almost Half Of All TSA Employees Have Been Cited For Misconduct (mercurynews.com) · · Score: 1

Tell me again why you think government can solve all of our society's problems? I ask because I need a good chuckle today.

  3. My phone does this now on FCC Calls On Phone Companies To Offer Free Robocall Blocking (fastcompany.com) · · Score: 1

I've got a Panasonic land-line phone that does this now. The only downside is that the block list is limited to 30 numbers.
What I really want is for the cellular companies to get off their ass and implement caller ID. Further, I want Apple to add live number lookup and a one-touch way to google a phone number in my recent list instead of forcing me to copy & paste the text. How hard is that?!

  4. Is the testing equipment open-source? on VW Has Emissions-Cheating Fix Ready, Says Report (pressherald.com) · · Score: 1

Why is it that nobody is demanding to see the schematics and source-code to the testing equipment for verification of its accuracy? If VW can cheat, then it follows that the testing agency, which does have motive and more than one, could fake the test results too.

  5. Stolen or *cough* misplaced? on 'The Wolf of Wall Street' Movie Was Financed With Stolen Money, Says DOJ (nydailynews.com) · · Score: 0

  8. Catalytic converters aren't necessary either on EPA's Gasoline Efficiency Tests Provide No Valid Information At All (hotair.com) · · Score: 1

These days, computer-controlled engines pretty much eliminate the need for catalytic converters which were mandated in the 70s. Regulation never matches the state of technology.

  9. Why does one get paid? on The Case Against a Universal Basic Income (vox.com) · · Score: 1

Until you can honestly answer that question, you don't understand economics. You get paid for contributing something. You don't get paid because you spent 40 hours of your week in an office. You get paid because what you contribute has value to someone else. Only the payee has the right to decide what that contribution is worth. Oh, sure, the worker can demand that they get paid more but the payee can tell that person to go pound sand... in a free market system. So, a universal basic income means one of two things: Either your mere existence in the world is valuable or the money is worth that much less. The former is B.S. The latter only proves that universal basic income is inherently inflationary.

  10. As a matter of fact, I do. The woman is now in prison.

  11. Until Google can figure out how to market to you or data-mine you using them.

  12. Yeah, well, I'll remember that next time a 2-year old wanders away from his home and winds up dead face down in a slag pit because the mother was too stoned to pay attention to the kid. I'll remember that next time another 2-year old dies because the kid's guardian overdosed the kid to get him to shut up and then dumps the body in the middle of the night. I have personally spent more than a week searching for both of these kids. Don't ever give me this crap about it being a victimless crime.

  21. This doesn't predict what humans will do. This predicts what Hollywood screen writers want the characters to do. Anyone who thinks that Hollywood knows how humans behave in the real world needs a reality check.

  22. Re:Am I the only one? on Mark Zuckerberg Votes To Keep Peter Thiel On Facebook Board (gizmodo.com) · · Score: 0

*DING* *DING* *DING We have a winner. Of course, the notion that what people do with their own money and time being their business and their business alone only flies if you're doing what SJW's approve of. If not, they will go to the ends of the Earth to make you stop and shut you up.

Being on the board of directors of a company doesn't mean you're an employee of the company. It means you have a significant stake in it. Anyone can demand a seat on the board of any company provided that you control enough shares. That doesn't mean you have to own them either. That's what proxy fights are all about.

  23. Electric vehicles' killer app on Will Self-Driving Cars Destroy the Auto Insurance Industry? (siliconvalley.com) · · Score: 1

IMHO, self-driving functionality will likely only appear in all-electric vehicles on the grounds that the technology desperately needs a killer app to entice buyers. Lack of impressive styling, lack of range, lack of extended range within 5-minutes, lack of infrastructure to charge them, minimal load-carrying capacity, added expense of having to replace batteries every few years, high upfront costs all serve to bork the concept of all-electric vehicles beyond those commuting to and from work in major cities. Even then, more people are likely to buy a gas-powered vehicle. So, my guess is that self-driving ability won't be offered in gas-powered vehicles for no other reason than to act as a sort of subsidy to the electric vehicle industry.

  24. Re:But who exactly is buying these? on Mattel Sells Out Of 'Game Developer Barbie' (cnet.com) · · Score: 1

Perhaps, but I would say that social justice parents are more likely to reject Barbie altogether for a whole list of reasons not the least of which is body-image issues. I wouldn't be surprised if someday some SJW tries to sue Mattel for having once portrayed unrealistic body images that magically scarred their precious little snowflake who likely still eats paste.
