I went to a craft supply store the other day to buy 4 pieces of matboard, cut to size. They wanted my Phone number, address, credit card number, and annother piece of ID. For a cash sale. No special order, no dangerous goods, no credit, just a fancy piece of cardboard.

The guy insisted the computer wouldn't accept print the invoice without it. I told him to tell his manager they'd just lost a sale because of their invasive policies.

A guy came up to the counter where I was working at (big chain convenience store) and asked for 6 cartons of cigarettes. Each of them a different brand, and all of them were brands the teenagers smoke. The total would be just over $300 CDN.

I began to get them together (under the counter -- we'd had people grab & dash cartons off the counter the week before). Then the guy handed me a visa card. I read the card, looked at him, and said:
"So Susan, have you got any ID?"
His response was something along the lines of "It's because I'm black, isn't it?". Ummm, no, it's because I just saw you talking to those kids outside, and these are the brands they smoke, and this is not your credit card. He insisted that it was his wife's card; I insisted his wife could pick it up from the RCMP then (an RCMP car pulled up coincidentally), and he ran off.

Pointing out that it can be used by dirty cops is not anti law-enforcement. It's pro law enforcement; cops who beat people up are breaking the law. We need to be able to bring the few cops who are also criminals to justice so that when criminals go to trial, we know the cop won't be brought into question.

Also, criminals are not likely to use it to escape detection, for two reasons: 1) most criminals either think they won't be caught or don't care about being caught, and 2) either no security camera manufacturer would be stupid enough to make their cameras respect this or, if it's made mandatory, only cops will have access to the transmitter.

He was a teatotaller who maintained a distance from the bulgars, observing their culture but maintaining the dietary and social practices of islam.

No, and No. Cedega is a version of WINE, which is an implementation of the Win32 API and binary format loader using Linux system calls and Xlib. It runs the complete windows retail release of many games, no patches and no demo only versions. Sometimes you need a special install script, though.

Overall you seem to be misunderstanding the role of X (which handles the input and display devices ONLY), and the GUI. You also seem to be either a troll or completely ignorant of up to date OSS GUIs like KDE 3.3 and Gnome 2.8

To make things easier (here's where many will disagree with me) one could work on such a program primarily focusing on modern hardware and esspecially modern video cards. Let's face it, ATI and NVidia run the show now days anyway.

And you have some problem with the drivers both Nvidia and ATI produce?

These are just my thoughts, and I hope people will constructively discuss this possibility...

No, it's a time waster. X, KDE and Gnome all work extremely well. There will always be room for improvements, but they are every bit as good as the MS and Apple GUIs. Before you start flaming me, note that I have studied GUI design, and I use Linux/KDE and MacOS X at home and Linux/Gnome and Windows XP at work, so I do have some basis for comparison.
