  1. Slashdot Party Bogota on Last Chance to Enter For Slashdot Anniversary Party Grand Prize · · Score: 1

Ok we hosted a party in Bogota with the amazing figure of 2 (that's two) attendees, had some beers and empanadas.
We haven't found a link or address to send the pictures but I guess I'll just post the URL for everybody to see, hope it counts for the contest.

OK I'll feel like cheating if I don't say this: The cake is fake just a masterpiece of photoshop art.

Who the hell (with a quark of technical knowledge) even considers "upgrading" to vista... Just don't do it

Yeah really old, but what bugs me more is thet I'm started to feel that I'm not getting very fresh information at Slashdot
    Specially when I submitted this:

A million (easy) bucks Wednesday October 12, @09:55AM Rejected

Seems that around here news aren't news until a news site says so.
Slashdot community can be the source of the news not just a directory!

Actually the cost would be :
A fraction of the electricity bill fot the time his computer was on, downloading the version of photoshop he used.
Cost of the time he invested in learning how to use the software.
10 minutes of pay for the lousiest web designer on the planet.
That sums like ... he owes us money for having to see this crap.

  6. Re:Get him fired. on Uneducated IT Managers, and How to Deal? · · Score: 2, Insightful

Yeah, I have lately found that good management skills are crucial for the efficient operations: My boss is an old school engenieer I guess he was computer savy like 100 years ago but now he has gone to the path of the management (which I personally despice) but he is a good combination between tech and management (actually he even does some screwdriver work once in a while) I guess I'm just lucky, but it hasn't been like that always I've been in contact with some of the worst kind of jerks but I've found that the best approach is to trick them into beliving that what you did was his idea, and let him sit and be an ass while you do your work well done(which you had to anyway) after a while he will end up asking for your advice all the time, because evidently he won't come up with any idea or correct approach, so you will end up doing what you want and running the departament. Of course he will always make more money and look good to the bigger bosses. Anyway you could slip some "raise my salary" advice once in a while. Also, tryng to get him fired will probably cause you to get fired before, don't go that way.

  9. Life Vs. Rules on Hackers, Spelling, and Grammar? · · Score: 1

All languages are "living" hence they are susceptible of change. That's good and necessary to be able to communicate new things, nevertheless it's fundamentally wrong to simply add to the dictionary whichever sound, onomatopoeia or misheard word that starts being used by many people, because the main purpose of language is to communicate ideas and to do it accurately, if that fails is just like having a buggy script. Language is a form of code for people and we all know what happens when you write a program with mistakes in the code. In my native language (Spanish) there is an organization created to regulate the "accepted" words called "Real Academia Española de la Lengua" they tend to accept just about everything that starts going around (I'm personally against that) but the good thing is they compile all those words, and if you are interested at least you have reference material just like the W3C does to web related programming languages. I don't know if there's a similar organization for English but I guess standards are indeed necessary.

  10. All the other misterious lil things on Which Screw Goes Where? · · Score: 1

The screws are fairly easy to figure out except perhaps for those long ones who could damage certain hard drives, But what about all those plastic risers and weird shaped little clamps and other stuff that come with cases (specially generic ones) who don't come with a manual or anything, anyone knows about a site where there's a more through description of those
