200Mhz is still a very high frequency for logic mapped on an FPGA. user-compiled logic does not reach this frequency on, let's say, a Xilinx's Virtex 5.
If Tabula can provide the equivalent of 8 FPGA in a single circuit, it will be a huge win for system designer. Multi-FPGA systems have reduced performance because signals must be propagated between FPGAs, via a limited number of IO pads. A PCB integrating a single FPGA (rather than 8 FPGAs) would be cheaper to produce, more compact, while providing better performance.
Consumers should better be interested in the efficiency of the 3D engines, such as CryEngine, UnrealEngine or FrostByte!
In 2007, I bought an ATI HD3570 in order to play Crysis, and it performed perfectly.
Today, Crysis 2 is out, it looks just about the same graphical complexity as Crysis 1, but I am expected to get a new 3D card to play the game in good condition. NO, THANK YOU!
I am fed with the game developers artificially driving the sale of lateset expensive, 3D cards from ATI and nVidia.
It reminds me when Intel and Microsoft allied to push users to get the very latest CPU and twice more RAM to run the new version of Windows.
Want to see a GTX 590 burning because of some shitty nVidia drivers? :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRo-1VFMcbc&feature=player_embedded
Now I am wondering who has bad drivers.... ATI, really?
Anyway, I am running Linux most of the time, and nVidia Linux support is really shitty. Sometimes, I am wondering if they still hire software engineers.
I urge people to switch away from FlickR, to other photosharing sites like SmugSmug or others.
IPernity is a community-oriented photo-sharing site, with an interface similar to the original flickr interface.
Here is a Monkeygrease script to automatically import your flickr photos to Ipernity: https://www.ipernity.com/apps/gm
I am uploading my new photos to both site, and when Ipernity community is large enough, I will definitely close my Flickr account.
Eric, the reduced battery life due to poor signals conditions is not related to the consumption of mobile CPUs.
The 2G/3G/Wifi modem is the circuit responsible for the increased power drain, and the modem is not integrated in the OMAP4 CPU.
TI OMAP4 includes a full set of features to reduce the power consumption while preserving performance. There is a full hardware framework to preserving power by cutting/reducing clock speed and voltage.
This seems like a huge advantage over Nvidia's Tegra. Tegra seems to be a real power hog, and for the time being it seems to be targeted at tablettes rather than mobile phones.
Really. co-workers meaning several people having the same issue multiple times ? I beg for details.
When travelling back from Israel, custom agents took my laptop from me for an hour, just to check if the battery could be some kind of explosive. Of course, I could not stay around while they checked.
I have missed my flight, and had to fly in a crappy El-Al plane.
Am I the only one you read 'tribaDism" ?
Of course, it is an issue for the perpetuation of male nerds. But did anyone really expect women to wait for you to finish your StarCraft 2 marathon?
This article is a handful of sh*t. The author has no clue of what the eFuses (or Android) really are, and it seems he simply does not understand the security features of the Texas Instruments' OMAP 3630. Maybe an iPhone fanbuy?
The OMAP 3630 is the full-featured CPU (ARM Cortex A8 + video/audio/2D/3D accelerators) which is integrated in Motorola's phone, but IMHO it will be integrated in many successful phones because it kicks the other mobile CPUs' asses (think Qualcomm, Samsung, and the rest).
The OMAP 4430 is even more powerful (ARM Cortex A9 dual-core + many ARM sidekicks for acceleration), and TI is coming with more.
The development of OMAP is really focused on Linux support and open-source communities. And ANYBODY can buy a development platform (it is called the ZOOM board).
When I go to the movie theater to watch a disaster like "Kick-Ass", I think I should start pirating these kind of crap rather than pay the full price of a seat (10euros).
There are more words in the script of an episode of Grey Anatomy.
And I feel the same with 95% of Hollywood production.
I am surprised you don't know the Squawk Box, which was used by the Brits again the Irish demonstrators. This box was a secret weapon used to cause non-lethal injuries, "thanks" to powerful acoustic waves.
And no, it was not Beatles' music.
And how about a data mining application to trackdown money laundry ?
I mean fiscal evasion to Switzerland, Monaco, St Marin, Andorre, Anguilla, Antigua et Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Bahrein, Belize, Bermudes, Virgin Islands, CaÃman Island, Cook, Turks & Caicos, Dominique, Gibraltar, Grenade, Liberia, Liechtenstein, Iles Marshall, Monaco, Montserrat, Nauru, Dutch Antilles, Niue, Panama, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Sainte Lucie, Saint Vincent & Grenadine, Samoa, San Marin, Vanuatu... and so on?
It would certainly be more efficient and useful. It would even help to cut the money resources of terrorists.
16bit depth support, yeah!

GIMP 2.6 Released
·
· Score: 2, Interesting
This is good news for us photographers!
90% of the time, photographers only set constrast/brightness/level/curves of their photos. These tasks cause lots of color aliasing in 8bit mode, but they are just fine in 16bit mode.
With Gegl support, I can use gimp for my photo flow:)
Hi,
I am exhausted with the current level of news posted on slashdot, how can I kill my account? please help me quick.
Thanks.
KDE4 and Gnome were undoubtedly released before Windows 7.
"Xilinx XC3S50A" : of course, that's the very low-end line-of-product from Xilinx. Additionally, Spartan 3 is an old generation.
On the other hand, check the price of large, high-speed FPGA from Xilinx's Virtex 6 family : nothing below $1000. Top at $10000.
Ouch.

IMHO, Tabula is targeting the market of large, high-performance, FPGA matrices.

I will buy!

slashdot is getting like Ding mixed with Fox News.
Wake-up call! David Fincher is planning an adaptation of 'Rendez-vous with Rama', with Morgan Freeman.
Also just found this other photosharing site : http://www.23hq.com/

Just wondering : what made Atari ST a fertile ground for viruses ?
Were there more viruses on Atari than on Amiga?

Iran has since blocked communications to Stuxnet's command and control infrastructure, he said.
That is certainly how they traced back to Israeli origins. The virus may call home from time to time, in a certain range of IP.

I would much prefer a 3rd episode of No One Lives Forever! This game was really fun and addictive.
Generating terrorists yourself : government agencie's smartest idea to avoid budget cuts.

While /. people are wanking off the next CPU from Intel, people die in Tibet because they want to be free. And not free as beer, you nerds.
