  1. Re:Can I mod the story? on LinuxAnt's DriverLoader Loads Centrino Drivers · · Score: 1

wow... thanks.... this is my first story to get posted (out of three attempts)! i like to think i know something about this topic since i am trying to switch my Dell 300m to Linux, and not having to reboot whenever I need to use the internet.

  3. just some notes... on LinuxAnt's DriverLoader Loads Centrino Drivers · · Score: 1

No, there is no BSOD. But there are kernel panic messages, so u might wanna look at those if u want some memories of Windows. Also, not all the OEM centrino driers work. The one linked to on the Linuxant website worked just fine on my Dell 300m, but the one on the Dell website caused problems. The "trial" gave me about a month-long licence, but I guess they'll figure something out by then, or maybe I'll make a new hotmail email account and get a new licence or something. Then again, that might not work, since I don't know of any way to chamge the MAC address of one of the Centrino mini-pci cards. Watever, i'll stop typing now because i feel like i'm going into a rant. btw... its cool that they actually posted my story!!! yay!!!

  11. old box on What's the Oldest Hardware You are Still Using? · · Score: 0

i still use a box from '93 that has a 400meg hd upgraded from 80megs,16mb of ram (upgraded from 4) and a 33mhz processor running at 66mhz turbo mode. i use it to play around with a really old redhat version i bought a while ago.

but, perhaps, while that machine has become outdated and rarely-used, the printer I bought with it (a HP LaserJet 4L) is now hooked up to a print server, serving maybe 20 clients. Great, great piece of equipment!

  12. impending doom... on Jocks v. Nerds: Detecting Gene-Dopers · · Score: 0

the thing is, until we know what EVERY SINGLE GENE does (i.e. finish mapping the genome in general), genetic doping or engineering is very dangerous. What if a seemingly desirable gene in fact is the gene for some type of rare genetic disease. In this scenario, if we insert this gene into all our kids, and assuming its recessive, they will be fine. But what about their children, what will happen to them? This is what will happen: all the children of our genetically altered children will die. This will be the crash of first world countries, the only countries able to afford such things, and a new era would start. We would do by and to ourselves more then even the most zealous terrorist can dream of. Why replace a system that's worked for thousands of years with our untried and unproven meddlings? I don't know why, but this reminds me of a book or something...

  13. hmmmm.... on What Counts as Music and Why? · · Score: 0

anyone tuned around their radio lately? well if some of the stuff you can hear on the radio is considered music, then by all means random binary data should have as much of a chance or better at being considered music... also think about this: if they decide to define "music" as something created by humans, then where would something like electronic music stand, since that's created with a computer. also, what if mit's music synthesis program (it was posted on slashdot a while ago) releases a hit single? Can tha be considered music? dunno
