    My point is only that any semi-competent company is going to have a policy of "never throw away data", especially if it's customer changeable.

    This is only valid when data storage is inexpensive enough for you to to allocate magnetic media to store said data.

    While the NSA has (probably) been doing this for years, and Wal-Mart and MasterCard/Visa for about 15 years, it's only been broadly feasible since the introduction of inexpensive 100GB hard drives. Even now, we only keep tape archives for 7 years.

    Note that this whole thread, plus 500GB, and, this year, 1TB drives, means the absolute end of privacy. I estimate that a 42U rack can fit 240 drives. By the end of this year, that means that a company will fit 240TB in 4.75 cu ft.

    Nowhere in the article or the post you are replying to does it say that Cassini is traveling at 30,000km/s. TFA specifically says:

    Nasa's current Cassini mission to Saturn is plodding along at 32km a second

    Pretty much the only persons who don't have Flash installed are the neo-Luddites who hang out here.

    But not, and here's the key point, from 200 miles away.

    Yeah, but I'd still rather have a gun shooting 3 rounds/min all day,

    10 rounds/day is just too "boutique" and specialized (a high KE penetrator round good only for destroying bunkers) rather than the "tactical" nature of putting lots of steel on armor and softer targets.

    I doubt the actual rounds used in a battlefeild scenario would be dumb-fire lumps of metal, for just that reason.

    That's why I was so distressed when I read "10 rounds per day". Chemical guns can put a heck of a lot more steel on target than that.

    Amen, brother!! Flashblock is a wonderful bit of software which allows me to view only those few Flash videos I want to watch.

    With an ad-blocker and Flash, you get the "best" of both worlds: You Tube *and* (relatively) ad-less surfing.

    The Baby Boomer focus on Youth as the be-all and end-all lead them to do all sorts of stupid things to "maintain their youth", when they should be getting jobs (that does not imply becoming wage slave!), having families and dressing like adults instead of large 20 year olds.

    True, there's not even the three minutes of video promised in the article. at 1:56 it you could say that it's closer to 3 than to 0. Which is a pretty bad argument.

    Yes, it was and I installed it because of how horribly outdated Flash 7 was, and it was pre-alpha quality.

    Adobe released multiple beta versions of F9. (That's the beauty of getting it thru your package manager: no need to constantly recheck the Adobe web site...)

    I totally disagree.

    Yelling at your parents because they smoke, and going to raves when you are in your 50s are, to me, definite indications of a disturbed human being. Heck, like most serious he's probably got Aspergers Syndrome.

    This is particularly sobering when you realize that the largest Camelback pack has a 100-oz bladder (3 liters), and especially sobering to me because when I go out on long rides, I will drink TWO of those bladders....

    To heck with that fancy stuff! A couple of inches of asbestos will do the trick quite nicely, and is a lot more durable than aerogel...
