yep, thats a british arcade, certainly a north east one down to a T.
I cant think of one arcade in the north east which has any machines which are less than 1-2 years old. This idea is essentially completely redundant for me, no matter how much I would like to try it.
I largely agree with these comments, on the football/soccer/hockey field, you have nothing around you other than the field and your team mates and opponents.
In a video game you have all your surroundings, and you have to focus on the poor looking first person perspective.
your looking at this too literally.
From playing super mario through nes, snes, n64, gamecube I constantly kick myself for never looking at the bigger picture of the level, i tend to look towards route 1 to reach the goal, never looking around for easier or more interesting/exciting ways.
Its this *adventurous/none conventional* approach towards games/work which IMO is the true benefit of playing games.
My point probably wasnt exactly clear.
You play on super mario bros rom you download, you enjoy it, brings back memories etc.
You see mario sunshine in a shop bundled with a gamecube for cheap, remembering the good times on mario bros, you buy it.
Thats my story, Nes/Snes roms took me on a huge nostalgia trip with nintendo, and actually inspired me to buy a gamecube.
In all fairness, this post is right.
Radiohead's "kid a", "amnesiac" and most recently "hail the thief" were highly swopped on p2p networks.
Still they hit number 1 INSTANTLY on release. Still they sell out tours all over the world.
Bands/artists who bitch about p2p sharing dont have enough faith in their own ability.
The bands who needs more coverage have a chance of getting it.
The bands who dont get it anyways.
Would nintendo prefer me playing a rom of super mario brothers that i didnt pay for, or playing on the X-Box?
Personally speaking, id rather be playing the rom, having been a life long fan on nintendo, the opportunity to play some of the games from yester year (and discover some new ones) has just reinforced my preference towards them over ps2/xbox.
in the uk gamecube and x box are considerably lagging behind the ps2.
Gamecube seems to have caught something of a second wind since many retailers cut 1/3 off the price of a the console.
xbox - IMO seems to be a poor 3rd place.
thats a terrible quote.
my flat has a camera which is hooked up to the tv, when someone buzzes me to come in i can see who it is.
I try not to use violence as an easy means of expression.
Try telling that to the poor koopas!
Hopefully given rockstars willingness to give old free games away, they wont kick up a fuss - some of those mods look pretty sweet as well.
as the article says
"a point and click adventure game"
When kids play this are they going to feel like they are in school again or actually playing a game?
IMO only the latter will make this project worthwhile.

Stopping kids playing online games, what do they do?
Maybe head for the amphetimine tablets over there which cost approx $1?
Id say thailand has a bigger problem to deal with than online gaming.
Imagine a game as chaotic and infinitely fun as Super Smash Brothers or Goldeneye 007 in a MMO scene and tell me that wouldn't be badass.
Or full of people screaming blue murder and accusing of cheating/being homosexual etc etc.
Super smash bros/monkey ball etc is and always will be better with a group of friends in the same room.

which is more educational, a Harry Potter novel or a Harry Potter computer/console game?
Which is more educational? Harry Potter novel, film or videogame?
Hopefully one lessoned learned will be the mass consumerism of it all.

I learned how to jack a car from GTA3. Run up to the door and press the triangle button?
