  1. Re:The Earth is 6000 years old on Huge Hydrogen Cloud Will Hit Milky Way · · Score: 1

The story of a Great Flood sent by a deity or deities to destroy civilization as an act of divine retribution is a widespread theme among many cultural myths. Though it is best known by the Biblical story of Noah, it is also well known in other versions, such as stories of Matsya in the Hindu Puranas, Deucalion in Greek mythology and Utnapishtim in the Epic of Gilgamesh. A large percentage of the world's cultures past and present have stories of a "great flood" that devastated earlier civilization, which has led to theories that they correspond to an actual (pre)historical event.
You think this is the only story repeated in many civilizations? You can explain it with plagiarism, taking inspiration from older (greek?) works, or even the collective unconscious.

Not really. It's not about the "best" choice but the one that will please the most people, based on the idea that if you're gonna submit someone to a government you should give him some choice on the matter. We have stuff like freedom of religion and speech "guaranteed" in the constitution (or ammendments in the US?), but if suddenly the majority wants to eat babies and gets a law approving it, it doesn't matter how good or bad their decision is, they get to do it.

They seem to think evolution in this manor stopped because this is the most perfect time for life
Evolution hasn't stopped. Maybe in humans it has stopped in the sense that we won't be seeing dramatic changes, like people with fewer toes outnumbering normal people. Nevertheless, some genetic conditions (the very bad ones, like the ones that affect the respiratory chain or other vital stuff) might become scarcer due to natural selection.

They seem to strongly deny other possible theories for the diversity of life like the bubble theory of evolution where the major difference is the common ancestor part.
I know everyone has a right to study what they want, but it annoys me when people focus so much on human evolution, there are a lot more interesting and less controversial aspects of evolution than "0mg we came from monkeys!!1!".

I personally feel that if the material is presented as a theory in the tradition sense with something saying simply that this is how science relates to things and so far it has been as accurate as we can test, things would be fine.
Any good biology book will tell you the arguments for and against evolution (hint, hint). If it really challenges your faith, you might as well read up on it on your own, and you'll quickly realize it's a theory.
