Ironic. Just a few days ago there was an article practically telling spammers how to use this technology to spam users. While it's not feasible, and probably has no correlation, maybe if the technology gets more popular, the spam problem will become as real as email spam. Personally, I can't wait for Walmart to have another way to tell me that baby food is on sale as soon as I walk in the door.
Install video cameras on the top of every light that doesn't already have them. When the device is triggered, take a nice large picture of the triggering car's license plate. If it's an emergency vehicle, then it's okay. If you notice an emergency vehicle doing this often, it could be signs that a policeman is throwing on his flashers just to get through the lights (I've seen it done before.)
"I think the last week will go into the history books as one of the most dramatic periods of solar activity we have seen in modern time," Brekke told SPACE.com.
...No it wont. Doesn't anyone understand, the general public doesn't CARE about this crap. In 20 years, when people look back at this period in history, they'll see the WTC. Operation: Iraqi Freedom. The video tape of Saddam's fire-ant torture. In 100 years, They'll see the WTC. In 1000 years, they'll see America, and they'll say exactly what we say about the Romans, "Wow, they really owned while they were around. It's too bad they had to fade away." Think about it, can YOU name any war that happened 1000 years ago? How about all the leaders of a country somewhere?
500 a year? I spend less than 100 keeping my system fairly up-to-date. I'm running an AMD2400 with plenty of ram and a GeForce FX video card. Seems to me you're upgrading too soon, if you wait a few months everything will drop in price. Remember, if your computer today is better than your friends' were a year ago, then you're in good shape.
Of course it's not ALWAYS true. Unless Napster provides MUCH better service than iTunes, however, it WILL be true. AOL is a better service than Prodigy or CS. SNES was much better than Sega, and PS is much better than 3DO, etc, etc, ad nauseum.
I, for one, welcome our new kitty-cat-with-headphones overlords.
In all seriousness though, I'll stick to kaz^H^H^HiTunes until Napster offers me something that my other service can't. Such is the problem with being second-in-line, everyone uses the first. That's why Windows is popular, that's why AOL is popular, that's why Napster WAS so popular, and that's why 45$/month porn sites are popular.
I will never buy another Symantec product again, if this is true. I don't care whether you are pro-gun or anti-gun, this is wrong. Can anyone recommend a good non-symantec antivirus and software firewall? (Please, please, please don't say ZoneAlarm.)
I read a book once, wish I could remember the name, but it was a collection of letters the founding fathers wrote to each other while they were drafting the Constitution. They debated issues, and brought up _this exact issue_. Franklin was asked by someone if they thought the law would still apply when the wars were over, and Franklin replied 'The wars will never be over. If a war ends, we should be prepared for another.' Two pages pass... 'It's my opinion that every man, woman, boy, and girl should know how to use a weapon to defend his or herself. The only way for this to happen is to allow the people to keep guns.'
Note: This was paraphrased. It's been a while since I've read the actual letter, so I don't know the exact quotes.
Gates: Damnit! Apple stole our idea to no longer support old versions of Operating Systems and force everyone to upgrade! Lawyer #1, isn't that illegal? Let's get a suit together!
I have an emblem. I leave it on every system. It's that eerie feeling you get when you know someone's been in your room, but you can't pinpoint it. Something's not right. Something's changed. My emblem is on your walls, on your bed, on your floor. You can't see it, but it's still there. No amount of searching will lead to you finding my emblem, nor will any amount of searching lead you to believe there was no emblem. So you search, you search, and you search. My emblem is that of a computer so weary from searches that it no longer processes. That is my emblem. That is how you'll know I've been lurking.
I'm just waiting for the Authors Guild to send Amazon a document saying either they delete all the software which runs Amazon.com, then return the notarized admission of guilt document back, or they're sued.
Life is too short to worry about obfuscation. I post my full email everywhere, and if I get spammed, well, I use AOL's handy dandy "Report Spam" button. It blocks the domain and keeps me from getting spam in the future.
Pushing the limit: Can I mention that I use AOL for email and not get -1 Flamebait?
And you always thought the Trekkies were something to laugh and point fingers at. Star Trek is the future! The Borg are not another race, but humans with electronic implants that malfunctioned. Heed the word of Trekkies worldwide, NASA, amalgamating humans with robots will lead only to the downfall of Captain Jean-Luc Picard!
EOF.
Yesterday I purchased my first legal song download. It was from iTunes, and I -expected- a working mp3 I could listen to on Winamp without external plugins. I got an.m4p file. Now the only way for me to get this into winamp or an mp3 player is to burn to a cd through iTunes then rip it directly off. Way too much work, but what do you expect for 99c?
Oh, I can INSTALL linux, I just can't get my modem, keyboard, or sound card to work. The sad thing is, I'm so good with Windows machines, I probably run across less problems with this Windows machine than you do with your Linux box.

Hey man, fuck you, I LIKE sleeping, okay? That once-a-week crap just wont cut it.
Did you hear him saying "Can you hear me now? Good."

Five years is hardly long enough away to have it put in history books. Read the quote, brain.
Oh, that hasn't happened yet, but it will...it will.

But can a PS2 play Solitare? Didn't think so.
Everything has limitations.

Uh, I disagree. Linux is WAAAAAAY more insecure than Windows if the operator doesn't know what he's doing. Three words...Root password: Vodka
Meanwhile at Microsoft HQ...

Remember guys, Gator is not spyware. It's adware. Please refrain from using the former term.

Wouldn't it be amusing if we /.'d MSDN? Maybe that would warrant another article. Heh heh heh...

Anyone willing to sell me a copy of the software they use to shut off engines? I've got $37 and a half-eaten hamburger for any takers.

I can't even install Linux properly without errors.
