I think it'd be something nice to put a LOT more of college textbooks online, maybe just provide it as a free service to a university's students or something
It cost almost $600 last time I bought books, anything is still something,
I beg to differ, it's GREAT that Java is being taught (i took the test, btw)
It's a simple language (relative of course) and allows teachers to teach good concepts, such as, recursion, algorithms, and Object-oriented program.
Honestly, if colleges were turning out graduates only with Java experience THEN you'd be right, but from my understanding, java is only freshman and sophmore level in college.
I really wonder how they ever expect to have this idea profit, while shooting GB's worth of files constantly down the pipes, and if I can download it off bit torrent, why would I want to pay for it?
Cool idea, but some questions should be answered first
I currently run FreeBSD on x86, i'd run it on sparc64 except they don't support Ultra2's (darnit.)
Somebody mentioned the lack of video support, honestly, there is almost 0-market for a GUI on a FreeBSD/sparc64 machine. If someone wants to run FreeBSD on sparc64 hardware, it's most definitely for a server.
Just be happy, FreeBSD 5.2.x is progressing along nicely, and we're getting closer and closer to -STABLE with it.
One thing to remember when using FreeBSD, is that it's mainly a server OS; that can do userland too, but is primarily for servers.
It doesn't mean that they're _eliminating_ the competition; they're just FORCING the competition to make something _better_ instead of copying what Apple already has.
I see it as a somewhat good thing, I mean, they're not trying to patent the idea of "e$NOUN"
They're trying to patent something that they have created, a design, which is something vital to their business, why not?
Google for it, I used it way back in the day (on Windows NT, 4 years ago almost) it's GREAT!
Basically, it's really simple, it starts up on login, and how it works, is it'll prompt you when a program attempts to access the internet, and you say [yes/no (and remember choice)] and it will block or allow that program, really simple, fast UI, I NEVER got a virus in almost 3 years of windows.
I've been using MacOS X since I went from a Dell 133Mhz laptop to a G3 iBook (700) and my life changed.
I have used macs since middle school in the middle nineties, but I had to convert to Windows because my parents wouldn't buy me a new mac.
After I got my iBook though, I found this funny little "Terminal" application, I discovered Darwin, 6 months later I picked up a trashed PC box, and installed redhat, then FreeBSD, and fell in love.
Thanks Apple, not just for an awesome OS with my awesome computer; but for the introduction to the most powerful set of OS's on the planet.
(Since then i've picked up two Sun machines with ekkoBSD installed (like OpenBSD), a couple more PC's, and various other fun pieces of hardware)
Why is it that every case mod article we have, that will get slashdotted (they always do), causes at least 10-20 "I hope their webserver isn't $CASEMOD"??
I mean, we're all smart enough to know that they're actual webserver is probably some black 1U server somewhere
I don't mean to start a holy war here.....aw, that's another post:-p
I installed OpenBSD on my Sparc Station 5 without a hitch, but on my dual CPU ultra2, it paniced in the very end of the installation
Here's some tips: when it paniced for me, it was really done installing, it will drop you into single-user mode. From there (where I was) you'll really just have to create the rc.conf file. And maybe do some disk-limbo and some network configuration with 'ifconfig' but it's not too difficult.
The same basic thing happened for me with NetBSD when I first tried it, but now, it runs like a champ, give it a try
(I got the Ultra2 from AnySystem.com on eBay for $70, try them out) </shameless plug>
I for one, have a lesbian sister, who cares, it's her life. I don't know ANYONE that is a gamer and gay, is it really something we need to discuss?
But in today's media frenzie about gay marriage you have to stop and ask yourself, why does 2% of the american populate have 98% of the media/political focus? Is this really SUCH a big issue nowadays?
Our forefathers meant free, as in free for rich white property owning men; we take it as meaning free for everybody.
I'm sure gays weren't intended in the civil rights acts, but we can take it as if they're included. It wasn't rights just for blacks, it was for everybody
Guys, i'm scared, really scared.
I mean, do I download it? Do I use it? Do I trust it?
All of a sudden nothing makes sense anymore!
The Apache HTTP project is a great project at that, but let's not forget apache's other AWESOME projects, Ant, jakarta, XML, PHP.

The List
Thanks to the success of the HTTP project, we've gained these, sounds like we should 'pay' tribute: http://www.apache.org/foundation/contributing.htm

Canadian's are traditionally viewed as non-threatening, so most people have no beef with them
America is another story, not to mention American buildings are more well known.
Too bad for the G4 sucks.
:-p
I love it when companies shoot themselves in the foot
I beg to differ, it's GREAT that Java is being taught (i took the test, btw)

Don't worry, i'm coming for your job anyways
I took it yesterday in the morning, as I think everybody did.
Overall, I think it was relatively easy (not to toot my own horn or anything)
Comparing to what i've seen of C++ and it's AP Exam, I _think_ the ease came mostly from the ease of Java itself, and the APPENDICES!
Most of the good heartly case-study code was included, along with a 'cheat-sheet' with method headers for the ENTIRE case study.
I'll get back to you in a month or two with my score, then we'll see how 'easy' it was
You must not own a new mac huh?
;))
*ducks*
(I use an iBook btw, joke
There's more than one way to skin a cat
I think that answers the question somewhat
If any human can create it, any human can break it.
DRM for the most part (I think) just doesn't work, being militaristic about media just sours the public opinion.
one thing to remember is that usually this are the cheapest most compatible parts.
it's cheaper for the meter company to get very generic, albeit overpowered, parts that will 'just work' then tinker with lower grade hardware
it almost ended when we gave it to my grandpa
Some things you just don't admit to people man.
Was sarcasm I believe, don't drink so much coffee man

nope, it's just you ;)

Windows Update maybe once a month never hurts

My bad, won't happen again.
