In both Halo and Halo 2, you did not need to beat the level in single player mode first. That said, it did royally suck that you couldn't save co-op progress mid-level. I remember leaving my Xbox on for days at a time while trying to go through the game on Legendary with a friend.
Actually, virtual charter schools can be very useful and effective, and I have firsthand knowledge of this.
I have a long history of lower back problems, and in the beginning of my senior year of high school I was experiencing debilitating pain. My school district didn't (and still doesn't) have an online charter school, and my principal was a complete dick and was unwilling to make any accomodations for me. Somewhere around the beginning of the second quarter of the school year I ended up dropping out of high school. My girlfriend's school district did have an online charter school, and since we were talking about moving in together anyway, I decided to move in with her. I enrolled in the online charter school, and was able to finish my high school diploma on time, even after I had back surgery. If it wasn't for that, I would have been a "super senior" in my high school the following fall, and would have delayed my college education. Obviously this is a huge difference from attending elementary school online, but I don't think it's fair to make broad generalizations about online schools being "bad."
My girlfriend lives on a dairy farm, and this isn't entirely true. There are strict regulations regarding the use of veterinarian antibiotics as they pertain to our food supply. For instance, if she has to treat a cow with antibiotics they can't put that cows milk into the cooler for at least several days. Also, treating a cow with antibiotics prevents them from shipping the cow to a meat packing facility for a similar amount of time.
In fact, the milk in their cooler is tested on a regular basis for antibiotic content, and if they do treat a cow, they're required to send in a milk sample from that cow for testing before they can begin adding her milk to the pipeline. Cows are also tested for antibiotics before they're shipped. As such, food laced with antibiotics is used very sparingly, and usually only for the two dozen or so calves they have.
Yeah, a lot of people think that two cell phones form a link together. But I can top that one:
My girlfriend's (believe it or not) mom has been going on a "kill the long-distance bill" rampage, and has been yelling at everyone for using her land line to make anything but local phone calls. One day, I asked her why she doesn't use her cell phone to call her mom who lives in New Mexico (my girlfriend's mom lives in Wisconsin). She replied "Oh, well there aren't that many cell phone towers in New Mexico." After that, I had to spend ten minutes explaining to her how cell phones actually work. She still yelled at everyone else, and used the land line herself.
These astronauts are courageously putting their lives on the line for the advancement of science and for the greater good of society, and you're making a joke about them dying?
That's just wrong. Period. By the way, yes, I am an American, but I'd feel the same way if you were making a joke like this about Russian cosmonauts.
It may have come across that way, but I don't feel that downloading Halo 2 and then buying it is stealing from Bungie. A major argument for downloading games and music is "If I download a game (or song) and I really like it, I'll go out and buy it." I'm willing to bet, though, that most people who say that won't actually go out and buy it no matter how much they like it or use it. For those of you that actually ARE going to purchase the game after downloading it (or renting it at a video store and copying it to your harddrive), I have a lot of respect for you. For those of you that won't buy it... Well, that's a horse of a different color.
I was going to mod this article, but I decided to post instead.
I hear a lot of people posting comments saying that most people with modded XBOXs are just going to download the game and put up with the French audio and UK subtitles rather than ponying up the $50. Having a modded XBOX, I take offense to that. I've played Halo for years now, and it is the best game I have ever played. I have spent so long waiting for Halo 2 to come out that another few weeks won't make a difference to me. The true diehard fans of Halo will not download the game. Rather, they will buy legit copies of Halo 2, and pay the developers the respect, and money, that they deserve for producing such an awesome game. People who steal from Bungie are not true Halo fans.
I agree. I'd leave, too, under those circumstances.

In civil suits there is no prosecution. The term for the party that initiated the suit is "plaintiff."

How does a post, which is obviously making a joke at the absurdity of this article, get modded "+5 Informative"? Shouldn't it be "+5 Funny"?
If you put it that way, I understand, and I also agree.
Sorry for jumping on your case like that.
Do you seriously think that this is funny?

Yeah, no kidding... After Leo left, she was the only reason I continued to watch The Screensavers.
I mean, a hot chick that's into computers... how often does that happen?
Let's just hope that they develope some new re-usable space craft fairly quickly.

From the article:
Their research was funded by a grant from the National Institutes of Health, the medical research arm of the federal government.
I suggest you read the article before making claims that the whole study is bunk.
From a military perspective, wouldn't a base in orbit around earth be more practical?
Last time I checked, the moon DOES orbit the earth.
Why in god's name would you post anything like this? Are you really so full of hate?
Moderators, please re-mod parent. Parent was not offtopic, as original slashdot story refers to the ISS as "blowing money circling the earth."
