    A number of these PC's never trigger to be updated even if they are months behind.

    Linux versions use standard system update tools and internal firefox update can be deliberately turned off by packager.

    Use Windows or use native Linux program versions. Firefox can run without WINE library overhead. Other programs have Linux alternatives.

    Long as the PCs have a license sticker on the machine such as Vista or higher they have the right to downgrade for free.

    I think downgrade rights are not available for Home Basic and Home Premium.

    I have to give the Chrome team credit. ... As it turns out, Chrome has an automatic updater that runs in the background. The browser is constantly and silently upgrading itself as the Chrome team push out new updates. The results are quite impressive.

    You are joking right. Program updates automatically without user's consent. WTF is that? It looks like Chrome is not any better than any other trojan or spyware. Google does not have the right to execute remote code on user's machine unless user approves it.

    GF8800 Ultra vs Quadro 4600

    Quadro has slower memory and core clocks. Bump them up and you get same performance. Same GPU. Same number of texture units and raster operators.

    You can get GeForce 9800 GX2 for smaller price than Quadro 4600.

    Microsoft has no control over the shit quality of drivers released by hardware manufacturers.

    Microsoft wrote generic driver for video camera. It is automatically downloaded when camera is connected to computer. No manufacturer CD is required. This driver bluescreens Vista when one option is checked.

    I'm not sure if gparted can do it yet, but you can shrink and grow ext2/3 partitions at the command line using a combination of tools.

    Resizing ext3 takes time. Lots of it, if you have large partition.
