    The porn industry always finds way to bring the new technology to the masses. While I am at a loss to explain how this will happen, you have to have an imagination to think it will happen.

    Instead of setting up in the lobby of the Sheraton hotels, maybe they should make holosuite sort of things.

    I would imagine that some sort of tactile feedback would be needed, though.

    I don't think Google needs to concern itself with an investigation of monopolistic practices. They do need to concern themselves with unfair business practices .

    As the leaders in the internet space continue to merge and grow, they're going to need to open up their secret processes to customers and regulators. Again, this is where organization such as the EU have an advantage over the US system.

    .... and distressed that Jean Luc really didn't play the flute. I mean I can understand the Enterprise not being real, phasers being special effects and the transported being fake, but come on. Jean Luc can't play a flute from a civilization that didn't exist?

    What next? Are we to find out that the medical devices they use on the show can't heal heart problems or bad acting?

    The interesting thing is that it appears that the protection of the betamax case has been removed when it comes to P2P. Some people think that this will open the floodgates of lawsuits regardless of whether something is advertised to having infringing value or not.

    When I first started learning about the concept of shells, I was moving from the MSDOS world.

    One of the first things I remember reading was the FAQ describing the shell differences.

    Imagine my surprise that the command line could hold so much control and there were other aspects of controlling a PC. I haven't looked back since, but that page really brings back some memories.

    It's funny how something you read can cause one of those lightbulb moments.

    This is described as remarkable lapses.

    They also describe how people cannot tell subtle shifts in scenes.

    A neat way of looking at the news, but I wonder how much is missed?

    I know I am late on this topic, but I hope someone can answer this.

    Can I buy the Itunes songs, burn a CD and rip an MP3? That way I can put the songs on my Creative jukebox.

    And when I rip it, since the ACC is only 128 does that mean the MP3 should be 128 as well?

    Most people can avoid issues with compatibility and getting things working if they buy their equipment from one vendor. As long as you're not trying to buy the best of everything you can do this very effectively.

    Also, most people have never considered this, but don't care about connecitivty at home.

    Is it a education problem or is it that things haven't reached critical mass?

    The RIAA somehow pushed the money to them or that no money was even exchanged? The RIAA gets off by looking like it settled and did some good by enforcing rights. Now, they sweep this under the rug and move on.

    Amazing how more people haven't picked up on the simple fact that it took less than 48 hours to make this happen. Given the national exposure, the target of the RIAA and the pressure it should have taken longer.

    Just my opinion. :-)

    but you are onto something. I am amazed hardly anyone has picked up on how well their usage has improved. I'm even more amazed that they changed their stance in one day.

    I have a feeling there is more to this story, but I have a feeling the settlement will preclude them from speaking on it in the future.

    No facts to base this on; just gut instinct.

    $2,000? Come on. She didn't pay one cent.

    Read the quotes in the article and determine if that is what the mom or kid said based on the news reports. What? They all of the sudden started speaking in polished engligh? They suddenly saw the light after vowing to fight?

    What I think happened here is that the RIAA swooped in and offered them a deal. More than likely they pushed the money to her somehow and it came back. Nice and neat. That's only my opinion without any facts.

    This is too nice and neat. Think about it for a minute and consider the chance of this actually happening. Notice there hasn't been any press releases about other settlements.

    The RIAA is going too far in trying to protect and aging and useless distribution method.

    Many times in a large organization changes are made where the impact across the enterprise isn't realized either through poor planning or lack of full testing. Sometimes you just miss something.

    I do like their approach of hitting up the Slashdot crowd looking for more information and passing on what they have.

    More companies should do like you said ... try cooperation and information sharing rather than decalring war.
