Telstar 4 DID affect my place of work. CBS backup had to be moved to Telstar 6 and WSI was moved as well. Just some of the digital data that flows into our building that doesn't go over the Internet. Do you think we would really rely on Sprint to get all of that data. They have enough trouble with our two T1 lines and the phone system here. You want every story to be about Windows patches? Telco is a lot more interesting.

And you're making me fall in love with Windows, all over again.

There was a poll question here on /. just a week or so ago. I waxed poetic on the wonder that is the key. I use a Macintosh and a Wacom tabet for all of my work use. (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects & Lightwave) I have three buttons... The tip and two barrel switches. The tip is a single click and the first barrel switch is a double click. I've never used the second barrel switch in nine years. My left hand is always sitting on the keyboard with my thumb just above the Command key. My pinky is ready to hit Control and my middle finger is on Option. It is in my opinion, the fastest way to use Photoshop. Now, when I'm at home, I just use a two button mouse. The great thing is, that when I use a system with a single button mouse, I'm not lacking any functions. On Windows, some things have to be accessed via the Right click. If the Right click menu isn't duplicated in the drop-down menus then THAT is poor interface design. I actually think that Amiga did the two button mouse thing better anyway.

Back in the day, a bunch of us on the Fidonet Amiga Echo would go on for days about what Commodore should do for marketing. "They should make a TV commercial that says...". I've been working in television for years and I've learned one thing... make it simple. If you start droning on about X, Y and Z you will loose the viewer. The G5 ad is one of the few commercials that make me turn around. I hear that "thwamp" of the guy hitting the tree and wonder what the heck is going on. (The TV in my office is almost behind me) Also, the use of music in Apple ads is very effective and I love the Pods United spot. I'm curious as to how involved Apple Creative was in the making of that spot.

My family moved to the Fort Myers area in 1979. Back then, (For most of the 80's) during the summer months, the power would be interrupted just about every day. I remember visiting my brother at a video production house in Atlanta just a few years ago. They didn't have a UPS supply for the building, just a "power conditioner". Here in Florida, television stations have huge UPS systems and diesel generators, and they are in use on an almost daily basis!!! Kudos to the power companies though, Even though we have electrical storms throughout the summer, the power is not interrupted nearly as often.

I'm currently moving some things to DVD-R with my PowerMac, Final Cut Pro, and iMovie. If you want to move to another tape format and don't want to use a computer, try a MiniDV deck. JVC makes one that uses the larger cassettes for over 200 minutes of recording time.
