Yah it is quite the condrum.
Do they vote the way they do because of the money they get.
Or do they get the money because of the way they vote.
It is quite hard to tell, but I'm sure if someone really wanted to they could dig through the past and find old voting records (before they got to the senate), collage papers, or public statements that would probably indicate the way they felt before they start receiving the big money.
Rather then assuming he does the bidding of companies that give him money, isn't it also possible that the companies give him money cause he does things they like?
I mean this is obliviously a bad thing but perhaps he really just really doesn't like people getting around copyrights....
That doesn't even make any sense.....
Inducement = The act or process of inducing
Devolves = To pass on or delegate to another
So taken in the context of a copyright bill and if you stretch the meaning you get; that some how enabling copyrights to be broken it causes children to be unlawfully exploited??????????
They don't really need much security, nothing they're making is that dangerous or cutting edge.
Give me an extension cord, a transformer, and a super soaker and I'll make you a weapon that can do that exact same thing.
Seriously.
Well they didn't arrest or jail him so it was innocent until proven guilty.
But we'll never really know what happened because the guy pled out.:(
People need to stand up to this type of thing. I hope that if the Feds, RIAA or any one else comes a knocking on my door, I'd have the courage to give them the finger and say see you in court.
Seems like a double standard.
It is a double standard, its the difference between criminal and civil.
Its not the state's job to help you prove your lawsuit. Its up to you to gather information to prove it (that's what the DMCA clause for getting info from ISPs is for).
Now if the state wanted to it could track down file sharers and go after them legally, but law enforcement has more important things to do.
But law enforcement does go after the bigger groups, perhaps you've read about some of the crack down on 'warez groups'.
Actually your right they do have to figure it out or drop it.
In most areas if service of a summons is not completed within 120 days after the filing of the complaint then the case can be dismissed.
But no matter what until you get a summons in person they can't do anything to you.
The reason for John Doe lawsuits is they allow the RIAA, under the DMCA, to subpoena your ISP to get your personal information and then amend the original complaint to reflect your true identity and then effectuate service.
I never really applied for the position of King of the Hackers and didn't want the job when it was offered.
The fool.... that would be like the coolest job ever.
As another replier pointed out; I am referring to the fact that religion has a LONG history of holding science/medicine back.
Just think of where we might be if religious dogma hadn't held us back for so long. Schizophrenia was believed to be 'demonic possession', vaccines were opposed, and research into anatomy was considered against god. Even today research with stem cells and genetic modification is being held back on religions objections.
While true, there is no way I can prove that we would be healthier without region. The evidence certainly seems to indicate we would.
I would get you some citations but I have some work to do away from my computer, I'm sure you can find some on your own.
No one's suggesting that doctors pray instead of treat
No one? 1234567
This took all of 1 minute in google to find.
Prehaps it would have been better said no one here has suggested.
Medicine and religion have a long history of bad blood and we would probably but a lot healthier without religion.
Actually you rarely have to convince a judge about the quality of evidence, that is beyond the fact of whether or not its admissible.
Its up to the jury to decided which expert witness they believe, and given the average juror, they tend to favor what they can understand and what makes sense to them. And it will sometimes come down to how the witness is perceived.
You knows what's really odd about it being on that list. Is the guy from the article specifically stated they're not on that list, and yet they are on there twice, go figure.
WETA's cool - but not in supercomputer/HPC land.
Actually they are.
The Top500 supercomputer site lists them as number 44.
Which is kind of odd especially considering the fact that the article clearly says they're not on that list./shrug
That's from a news site, who have a tendency to fudge the facts.
I believe they were alluding to the fact that if your fridge broke open you wouldn't here a constant loud noise.
But the prude article points out that its 20 atmospheres of pressure in there, that's 100s of psi. You don't think that is going to make some noise if it brakes open?
Freon Because Freon is non-toxic, it eliminated the danger posed by refrigerator leaks.
First result when googleing for freon.
Things can brake you know and the sound can get out.
I think we're close to agreeing.... but not quite.
You said 'Holding a company responsible for having a crappy spam filter is ridiculous.'
But this is not really that far off from current laws. If an employee complains about something or someone that is making them uncomfortable in their job and the company doesn't take adequate steps to prevent it then they are liable. Though what adequate is will depend on the jury. But not filtering spam is by no means ridiculous especially if you compare it to some of the lawsuits that are currently being filed.
Anyone see a downside to this besides the annoying move to such a system?
You'd have to get all the mail servers in the world to update their software, but I've always thought such an approach would be a good idea.
Downside is though it would still be a rather easy to change your ip addy or bounce it off a proxy to escape a blacklist. And god knows how many poorly made free mail servers there are out there for spamers to abuse.

Anyone else remember the movie The Secret of NIMH from their childhood?
You either have a great memory.... or watch to much star trek.

It says that the noise can only be generated inside the chamber. But I bet it will still make a pretty loud bang when it cracks.
