Most of what's wrong in this world stems from religions. Not the beliefs that state "be kind/loving/generous to your fellow man", but the zealots who blindly follow, believe, and misinterpret everything that they've been told/read.

I know 100% for a fact this will fail, but that won't stop people from bringing up counter-arguments against it.. and how that these events really took place, yadda yadda.

No, they aren't taking my money, but they're definitely taking someone else's money. Not only that, but I have to live in a world and witness things turn to shit due to religion.

For example, President GWB doesn't want Gay Marriages because... *gasp* religion says it's bad. I'm not gay, but if that isn't some closed minded thinking, I don't know what is. Any extremist (terrorists in particular).. it seems that most of the closed minded events that take place in this world are driven by misinterpreted religions, but religions nonetheless.

Spouting off about it on a "Researchers look for Noah's Ark" is probably not the best of places for it, but I like to speak my mind when given the slightest opportunity to do so.

It is a popular misconception that burned PS2 games will not work if burned over 1x. The reason this APPEARS to be true is because a lot of DVD burners suck ass, even the big brand name ones. Burn anything over 1x, and the PS2 can't read the data.

Is it the PS2's fault? No. Reason being... I've witnessed DVD-Rs burned on 2.4-4x using a friend's DVD burner that will NOT play at all, but I take a DVD burned with MY DVD burner at 4x, it works perfectly! Same brand of disc and everything.

Based on that, I think it's safe to say that it all depends on what you burn it with.

I think right there that goes to show that pirating doesn't really affect business. It's just something the industry has to accept.

I notice a lot of people on here are so completely against piracy, and I find it laughable. Yeah, you can follow the law all you want, but look at the numbers and the facts. It's not THAT big of a deal.

If I had no intentions whatsoever on seeing The Punisher movie and I get bored and decide to download it, no one is really losing money. Yes, techinically it's illegal, but I'm not distrubuting it, I'm not profiting, and I'm not stealing. If I wasn't able to download that movie, I'd probably end up forgetting it even existed until it hit HBO or was available on Netflix.

Who will create the next Unreal Tournament when no one feels like paying for them anymore?

That is a completely invalid "what if" statement. Everyone DOES have the ability to download these movies/games (provided they have a decent connection or are willing to wait a long time). In fact, you get them from the EXACT same place you download your music from. Does everyone do it? No. Yes, in a not-so-perfect world where EVERYONE downloads EVERYTHING and pays for NOTHING, then yeah, it would hurt, but it's not that way and it will never be that way, so therefore it doesn't really hurt. Note, I said "doesn't really" because yes, it hurts *some*, a very small fraction, but not enough to make a stink about it or go raiding places for pirated works.

Have you seen CIS courses in colleges? They're a flat out JOKE and completely miss the mark in teaching what needs to be taught. Instead, the programming courses are nothing more than simplified math classes that use compilers/code instead of calculators to work problems. For instance, you take a Java class and chances are (unless you have a kickass teacher that knows what needs to be taught) you'll be coding math functions and stuff like how to calculate quadratic equations instead of the more important aspecs such as the true advantages of developing with Java in the real world. Kinda OT, but yeah, I'm not really concerned about what the law states. If I want to copy DVDs (especially my own to make backups), I'm gonna do it and there isn't much anyone can do about it. I'm not reselling them. Besides, I'm talking about downloading movies. Movies that are currently in theaters.

My point is, their profits aren't hurt by piracy. A small fraction, sure, but what about the amount of people who download the movie, watch it, then turn around and buy it when it comes out on DVD? I've done it in the past. The ??AA skews the numbers and looks at them from a black and white perspective. They see the number of pirated movies and say, "Ahh... that's how much potential profit we lost." I don't care how much you're against piracy, but I'm sure you can see how WRONG that assumption is. Chances are those people wouldn't have purchased the movies anyway. No, it doesn't make it right, but it's not that big of a deal.

I have well over 100 DVDs that I've copied from Netflix. I'm not gonna try to justify it because I know it's illegal, but to a point. I don't mass distribute them. Half of those movies I wouldn't have purchased anyway at the price they're going for. A lot of them are getting heavy rotation on HBO, some are played prime time on the major networks.

To them, they "lost sales" from DVDs I've copied, but I'm me and I know more than they do about what I was willing to purchase or not.

For instance, let's take The Punisher. I'm not a comic book fan, so I'm not exactly hyped about going to see the movie. It looks like a mediocre action flick. If I get bored this week, I'll probably download it and watch it. If I didn't have the sources to download it, I'd probably forget about it and wait until it hit HBO or Blockbuster (even if I rent it and copy it, the movie is already paid for by Blockbuster). The bottom line is, although my actions are technically illegal, they haven't lost any real revenue from it because I had no intentions on going out of my way to see this movie.

The only kind of piracy I don't agree with is someone who downloads the movie, slaps it on a DVD, and tries to resell it. Kinda sucks that one person profits from something that someone else made. Anything other than that, like downloading for personal use, is pretty irrelevant.
