Lightyears ahead in what way, exactly? I've used them both, as well, and I found that VS.NET was great as long as I wanted to do something Microsoft wanted me to do, and fell right apart as soon as I tried to do things another way - maybe you know the mystical wonders I missed. Care to list a few?
Just so no one takes this idea seriously, if there is ever a concurrent update then there will be two inserts that get the same value, and the second one will fail (assuming proper primary key semantics)
Even with max(id)+1 this is wrong. There are reasons databases provide ID generation primitives. One of the biggest is guaranteeing that an id given to a client is unique for that primitive.
At least they explain in their technical FAQ that it's all intentional.
My take is that using a print layout on the web is akin to trying to make a printed page scroll, but they're free to make all the mistakes they want. Graphic designers so often have trouble adjusting their work to the relative nature of the web.
A terrifying prospect as a residence? Packed with taxes and guaranteed to stultify? An unfortunate bump on the road from DC to New York? Convinced (like so many other states) that gambling is going to save their children from shitty education?

Yeah, but that's mainly a symptom of the Mac user community's obsession with form over function.
Will some zealot please mod me down for this?
Why wouldn't you design in your IDE? I can't understand what's so insightful about advice to double up on your work.

The rest are left as an exercise for the reader.
It has one of those compelling interfaces, too. I spent half a minute trying to figure out how to read the article.
Overall, if it doesn't come from Bill O'Reilly, I don't believe a word of it.
This is sarcasm, by the way, just so no one kneejerk downmods me regarding fox news. If you want to hit me with a few anyway, go for it.
This was pretty much the only thing I was looking forward to on the Gamecube.
Ah, yes, the Wizbang blog, pinnacle of journalistic endeavors on this here internet. I now feel silly for not checking there first.

Sure. Ever hear of the Internet?
You, sir, are either a liar or a loony. Just letting you know. Congratulations either way, you've successfully stirred up a pot of geeks. Oh, joy.
