Throughout history people have always said that certain technologies will never exist only to be prove wrong eventually. Before the wright brothers got off the ground people were saying "if god had wanted man to fly he would have given us wings".
Thanks for the advice. I'm already running redhat 9 on my own pc and it's not too bad. One of the things that bugs me is that commands like fdisk are missing, I think redhat may have castrated linux a bit to make it safe. As an alternative I am experimenting with slackware 9, I want to be able to do more from the command line and slackware seems to be a good distro for doing that.
If it's done as a bit of fun thats pretty cool, but if old computers can be put to good use then it's recycling. I'm thinking about getting a crappy old computer and installing linux and mozilla and making a littlew web browser for the kids. It would be a one trick pony, but it would save money and resources.
i'm not impressed with debian.
i've been using redhat 9 and i've had no problems with it. i read this article and thought i'd try debian. i downloaded the iso, burnt it onto a cd and booted it.
it took fucking ages to install.
the boot floppy it made also took fucking ages to get debian running.
once it was running it said that x wasn't working.
when i clicked on the option to configure x it gave me a blank box with no text so i was unable to configure.
what a complete fucking waste of time.
Make them sterile. Biotech companies can make any wierd new animal they want as long as it is gender neutral. The enviromentalists are happy because it cannot reproduce. The biotech companies are happy because people can only buy them, not breed them. The customer is happy because they can get a tailor made pet. Everyone is happy.
As soon as there is the technology for it, people will be paying to ensure their babies are aryan supermen/women. All that "Master Race" shit didn't end with the nazi's.
I'm not so sure that I want my children to be white. With all the damage we are doing to the ozone layer we are going to get hit with a lot more UV in future. Maybe I should stop dating white girls:-)
Some people might consider that terrorism.
Just curious.....
Catamite? Oh, misread that.
Easy tiger.
Well said. Even if they didn't give a damn about open source, at least people can't accuse them of tolerating software piracy.
Wouldn't surprise me.
I hope that one day you learn to open your mind.

Simple and not too technical. A good introduction to the benefits of open source.

He did write about chair dogs. Check out Chapter House Dune (one of the later books)
